Ashutosh Sharma of Delhi Capitals has scored a 70-ball hundred on his English club cricket debut for Wigan Cricket Club.
Star Delhi Capitals batter Ashutosh Sharma on Saturday, May 31, smacked a 70-ball century on English club cricket debut hours after his arrival to the country from India, capping off a brilliant day for the Indian Premier League franchise which earlier saw Karun Nair score a double hundred against the England Lions.
Ashutosh has been signed by the Wigan Cricket Club for this year's Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, part of the England Cricket Board's Premier League structure.
Ashutosh made his debut for the team on Saturday and left an immediate impression with a century at No. 5 against Formby FC.
Put in to bat first, Wigan found themselves at 17/3 in the 10th over before Ashutosh and Aveen Dalugoda added 153 runs for the fourth wicket.
Ashutosh hit eight boundaries and six sixes, batting at a strike rate of almost 137, as he rescued the side from a dangerous position, reaching his century from 70 deliveries.
Ashutosh was dismissed by Larry Edward in the 34th over, and Wigan couldn't build any more partnerships and were bowled out for 241 in the 52nd over.
'Ashutosh arrives in the UK today and guess what…? He scores a hundred same day! Some guy! ????," Delhi mentor Kevin Pietersen tweeted on Saturday evening.
In the chase, Tom Billington and Ian Cockbain added 91 runs for the opening partnership before the former was dismissed by Bradley Barrow in the 16th over.
Formby were soon reduced to 169/5, and Carney and Larry Edward added 48 runs for the sixth wicket before the latter was dismissed by Barrow. Carney and George Darwood eventually took Formby past the target in the 52nd over.
Ashutosh had a breakout Indian Premier League season in 2024, when he made 189 runs at a strike rate of 167.25.
Ashutosh was bought by DC from the Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2025 and scored 204 runs at an average of 29.14 with a strike rate of 160.62.

Clarke namedrops Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma while discussing MS Dhoni's IPL future: 'His retirement will be a huge loss'

The 2025 Indian Premier League season ended with Royal Challengers Bengaluru ending an 18-year wait for the title. Rajat Patidar's RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in a close final, thus lifting the trophy for the first time in the franchise's history. The season also saw a highly improved outing from the Mumbai Indians, who qualified for the playoffs under Hardik Pandya's captaincy; they lost to PBKS in the Qualifier 2. However, the fortunes didn't improve for the Chennai Super Kings, as they ended the campaign with a wooden spoon, registering only four losses. All three franchises – RCB, MI, and CSK – feature three of the stalwarts of Indian cricket. While Virat Kohli made an efficient contribution to RCB's title-winning run, Rohit Sharma, too, smashed four half-centuries in the season including a player-of-the-match performance in the Eliminator. For MS Dhoni, however, the season was turbulent, as he was forced to take over the captaincy midway through the campaign after an injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Throughout the season, many stated that the 2025 season could be the last we see Dhoni in CSK colours, as the franchise faced heat for outdated tactics and poor performances with the bat. However, former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes that Dhoni is the 'face' of CSK and it is important that he returns for the next season. Speaking on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke also spoke about Kohli and Rohit's IPL futures in the same breath. 'I think MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in next year's IPL. MS Dhoni is massive. Every time Chennai plays, even in away games, there are more Chennai fans than any other fan. Sponsors, they are there because of MS Dhoni. The fans, they are there because of MS Dhoni,' said Clarke. "He is the king of that franchise. They want him to keep playing and I dont think people realise the impact. When he decides to retire, it will be a huge loss to the franchise," he added. It wasn't a surprise that Clarke also namedropped Kohli and Rohit while speaking on Dhoni's future. Both Indian batters called time on their Test careers last month, leaving the cricketing fraternity in shock. Kohli's retirement was particularly surprising for many, as experts and fans argued that the batter was supremely fit and only needed to rejig his shortcoming against the deliveries outside off-stump.

Yuzvendra Chahal played with 'broken ribs' in IPL 2025, says rumoured gf RJ Mahvash

RJ Mahvash (L) Yuzvendra Chahal (R). New Delhi: The Punjab Kings' Yuzvendra Chahal put in a top performance and played well in IPL 2025. He got 16 wickets over his 13 innings, getting two four-wicket hauls. He was an important part of what made the team achieve its objectives. Yuzvendra Chahal missed several games towards the end of Punjab Kings' (PBKS) IPL 2025 season due to a finger injury. Despite this, he played in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians on June 1st, following a match against Rajasthan Royals on May 18th, and also participated in the final. Yuzvendra Chahal's close friend, RJ Mahvash, revealed that the cricketer suffered rib and bowling finger fractures during a recent tournament; the rib injury occurred in the second match, while the finger injury happened later. 'They fought, stayed and played till the last match! And special post to @yuzi_chahal23 because what people don't know is that his ribs got fractured in the second match only and his bowling finger got fractured later, this guy played the entire season with 3 fractures!' RJ Mahvash posted on Instagram. 'We all have seen him screaming and crying in pain but have never seen him giving up! I mean what warrior spirit you have man ?? The team kept fighting till the last ball! It was nothing but an honour to be a supporter of this team this year! Well played boys ?? All the people in these pictures have my heart ??See you next year! Also, many congratulations to RCB and fans for winning the title. Everyone played and worked hard! Cricket , and IPL ..my God again! Truly a festival for us indians.' Yuzvendra Chahal's economical bowling (1/37) restricted the batting team, while Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson each claimed three wickets (3/40 and 3/48 respectively). RCB's strong finish, fueled by Jitesh Sharma's quick 24, Liam Livingstone's 25, and Rajat Patidar's 26, enabled them to reach 190/9 in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli's 43 provided some stability to the innings. Priyansh Arya's quick 24 runs (from 19 balls, including four boundaries) and Prabhsimran's 26 (from 22 balls, with two sixes) propelled Punjab Kings to a strong start in their run chase, culminating in a 43-run partnership. Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten, match-winning performance against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 propelled Punjab Kings to the final. However, he underperformed in the championship match. Krunal Pandya, Yash Dayal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's bowling performances (2/17, 1/18, and 2/38 respectively) restricted Punjab Kings to 184/7, despite Shashank Singh's impressive 22 runs in the final over. Josh Inglis and Shashank Singh powered a strong batting performance, scoring 39 runs off 23 balls (Inglis) and 61 not out off 30 balls (Singh), with both players hitting multiple boundaries and sixes. Krunal Pandya's excellent bowling performance secured him the Player of the Match award.
