Willie Le Roux has encouraged up-and-coming rugby players not to give up on their dreams after he made his 100th test appearance for the Springboks over the weekend.
The 35-year-old made his debut for the South African national rugby team in 2013. He has played in three Rugby World Cups, the last two of which the Boks have won.

SA won the game 45-0.
Sharing a collage of pictures for the special occasion, Willie posted: 'Playing my 100th test match for the Springboks is something I've wanted since I was a child. It's a moment that feels so surreal and incredibly humbling.
'The journey to get to here was never easy…there were definitely some tough times – injuries, doubts, setbacks – moments where the road ahead felt way too steep. But I held onto belief and kept pushing. Because when you love something this deeply, you find a way to keep going.
Willie le Roux used his own experience to encourage other aspiring rugby players.
He continued: 'Believe in your dreams. No matter where you come from, no matter how far away your goals may seem – it is possible. It does, however, take a lot of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and heart'.
WHO IS THE HIGHEST CAPPED SPRINGBOK?
The highest-capped Springbok is currently Eben Etzebeth, who has made 132 appearances in green and gold.
Last October, the 33-year-old surpassed Victor Matfield's previous record of 127 caps. Apart from the duo, only six more Springboks have surpassed 100 test caps: Bryan Habana, Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit, Jean de Villiers, Percy Montgomery, and now Willie le Roux.
In an Instagram post, Eben congratulated Willie on his achievement.
He posted: 'What a privilege to know you and share a rugby field with you for the last few years. You are a legend, my brother and an incredible person'.
He added: 'WLR100 sounds just about right!'.

Siya Kolisi's potential return sparks No 8 jersey debate for Springboks ahead of Georgia clash

After missing out on the first three matches of the season due to a couple of niggles, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi could be in line to play his first Bok Test this year on Saturday in Nelspruit. Image: BackpagePix The Springboks are weighing up the option of playing Siya Kolisi at eighth man should he be fit to face Georgia in the final mid-year Test on Saturday in Nelspruit. With a ban hanging over the head of Jasper Wiese, who was red-carded for a headbutt against Italy this past weekend, the world champions are a bit thin when it comes to the eighth man position. Stormers bruiser Evan Roos was the replacement on Saturday, and he is another strong candidate for the jersey, seeing that he hasn't had many minutes for the Boks this season. Roos made a telling impact when he took to the field and gained some valuable running meters with the ball in hand. He was also solid on defence. Video Player is loading. Should the Bok captain be selected, it will be the only playing minutes he will have ahead of the Rugby Championship. Marco van Staden 'We have a bunch of versatile players in the squad, like Siya who has played primarily for us at six, but have played at No 8 for the Sharks,' Deon Davids, Springbok assistant coach, said on Monday. 'Evan Roos played this weekend, Marco van Staden played in that position. There are different players we can look at who we feel can play there. It will depend on the mix of the loose trio and pack. All the players are available for selection and Siya is one of many players who are part of the discussion.' The Boks expect a big onslaught from their visitors, despite their loss to provincial side, the Cheetahs, this past weekend. The Springboks come off a resounding win in Gqeberha and will look to continue with that momentum, despite the prospect of fielding a changed lineup. 'We see every Test as an important game because we want to win it. We never underestimate our opponents and understand Georgia's DNA. They are a team that brings a lot of physicality and leaves everything out there. They were competitive in their last couple of games. The Jasper Wiese headbutt incident. Some say it was soft and should have only been a yellow. It's not about the result or even intent ... it's about the action. Headbutt is a headbutt is a headbutt basically. Red card all day long unfortunately for Jasper. — Front Row Rugby (@FrontRowRugbyXV) July 13, 2025 'They have their own goals and are pressing hard to be part of the Six Nations. Them coming here is another step in that direction. We expect a competitive game and want to continue setting our standards and improve looking at the Rugby Championship and the rest of the year.' The Bok assistant coach added that it is unfortunate that Wiese got himself on the wrong side of the law, but they are a physical team that tries to do things with intent. He added that the team will support Wiese and that they trust the disciplinary process. 'As a team, we work very hard to stay on the right side of the law. That is why we have Jaco Peyper here and we train with him to stay inside the laws. World Rugby have laid out the procedure they will follow, and we trust the decision and process.'

All-round effort carries Proteas to victory in T20 tri-series opener

The SA team chased down their target with more than four overs to spare. Shining with bat and ball, South Africa coasted to a five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the opening match of the T20 International tri-series in Harare on Monday. Set a target of 142 runs to win, the Proteas lost three wickets within the first six overs of their chase, but they were stabilised by a solid partnership between debutant Rubin Hermann and 22-year-old Dewald Brevis. The duo shared 72 runs for the fourth wicket, keeping the SA team in the driving seat, before Brevis was removed in the 12th over. Brevis smashed 41 runs off just 17 balls in an innings which featured five sixes. After he fell, Hermann was then dismissed for 45 off 37 when seamer Richard Ngarava flattened his off-stump a few overs later. They had done enough, however, to take the pressure off the middle-order as they cruised to victory with 25 balls to spare. Zimbabwe innings Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Zimbabwe's top order were pinned back by frontline bowlers Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger during the powerplay, and they found themselves struggling at 39/2 in the eighth over. Veteran skipper Sikandar Raza anchored a recovery, however, as the hosts managed to compose themselves and launch a fight in the second half of their innings. Raza top-scored for his team with an unbeaten 54 off 38, racking up his 15th T20 International century as he carried his team to 141/6. Proteas spinner George Linde took 3/10 and was superb at the death, taking two wickets for just four runs in the last over. South Africa will face New Zealand in their next match of the tri-series in Harare tomorrow (1pm start).

Jasper Wiese comments after red card

World Rugby has confirmed that Jasper Wiese will appear before a Disciplinary Committee for a full hearing after he was shown a straight red card for what was deemed to be a headbutt on Italian prop Danilo Fischetti on Saturday. The disciplinary hearing will take place on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, and Wiese is expected to face a ban that spans several weeks, especially considering his disciplinary history. Speaking after Saturday's match, Wiese himself admitted that fault lay with him after this incident. 'I know I let the team down. Well done to the guys for grinding it out – it's not easy playing with 14, and they showed real grit today. A silly moment from me,' he admitted. The big No 8 has only recently recovered from injury, and there will now be a big job for the likes of Jean-Luc du Preez and Evan Roos to cover eighthman, while the Springboks may also need to consider shifting a utility forward to the back of the scrum. 'We have versatile players in our squad,' Springbok assistant coach Deon Davids commented. 'Players like Evan (Roos), Siya (Kolisi) and Marco (van Staden) can cover No 8, so we have a few players who can play there for us.' Davids otherwise confirmed that all players are fit and available for selection, with Erasmus set to name the match-23 on Tuesday.
