UK viewers ‘abandon social lives' as legendary series free to binge on YouTube

Neighbours fans are in for a real treat, as the legendary Australian soap can now be watched from the very beginning.
Hopefully this will soften some of the devastating blow dealt in February, when it was confirmed that the serial had been axed once again.
This is now the third time in 40 years that the camera have stopped rolling – though it looks unlikely that there will be any chance of a revival after Amazon Prime Video pulled the plug.
The streaming giant not only owns the rights to make new episodes, but also host an archive of classic episodes, as well as every instalment from 2012 onwards.
Whether or not the serial will remain on the platform after the finale in December remains to be seen, but for now, grieving viewers can take some comfort in the fact distributors Fremantle Media have began daily uploads on video sharing site YouTube.
The Neighbours Classics channel is currently up to episode 480, which aired on 1st May 1987 in its home country, and on 8th September 1988 in the UK.
A more contemporary offering is hosted by the Neighbours Ramsay St channel, which is currently on episode 6950, from 2014.
There hasn't been much fanfare about the new additions, though it hasn't took long for those dedicated to the show to track them down.
'I really wish I hadn't seen this. There goes my social life,' said one on Reddit.
'Hopefully they keep going,' said another.
A third added: 'This is great hopefully they show every old ep.'
There's some good news if you're fancying a nostalgic binge watch from the start – it's instantly familiar as the show that has gone on to become a global phenomenon.
Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) is roaming Ramsay Street, while his mate Shane Ramsay (Peter O'Brien) – who recently returned – lives next door.
Things were a lot simpler in 1985, with just three families creating the drama. There was no Lassiters Complex or hotel, as they didn't arrive until the following year.
We're first introduced to Shane's younger brother Danny (David Clencie), who is suffering intense nightmares about his brother's diving career, becoming a huge concern for parents Max (Francis Bell) and Maria (Dasha Blahova).
In No. 26, cheeky chappy Paul (yes, there were days before he was a ruthless businessman) lives with dad Jim (Alan Dale), grandmother Helen Daniels (Anne Haddy) and his siblings Julie (Vikki Blanche), Scott (Darius Perkins) and Lucy (Kylie Flinker).
It wouldn't be until episode 188 that Jason Donovan would take over the role of Scott, making him one of Neighbours' most iconic characters.

Despite that, executive producer Jason Herbsion recently ruled out his return in the next finale, following on from his much-hyped reappearance in 2022. More Trending
Completing the early days cast is Des Clarke (Paul Keane), who is in for quite the surprise at his stag do when he meets stripper Daphne Lawrence (Elaine Smith).
And that's when good neighbours become good friends!

Fans are all saying the same thing after Tom Cruise finally gets his Oscar

Tom Cruise is finally set to receive an honorary Oscar after a string of nominations, leaving fans equally delighted and baffled. It has been announced that the stunt-loving actor, who stole the show in Top Gun, the Mission: Impossible franchise, Tropic Thunder, the Firm and so many more, is getting a coveted trophy alongside Dolly Parton, Debbie Allen and Wynn Thomas. The 62-year-old has been nominated for performances in Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia and Rain Man, but has never taken the statue home. He will now be honored at the upcoming Governors Awards in November, alongside his fellow honorees – who are getting the Oscars 'to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy'. Academy president Janet Yang hailed the stars as 'legendary individuals' who have made a 'lasting impact' in a statement. 'The Academy's Board of Governors is honored to recognize these brilliant artists,' it read. 'Debbie Allen is a trailblazing choreographer and actor, whose work has captivated generations and crossed genres. 'Tom Cruise's incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all. 'Beloved performer Dolly Parton exemplifies the spirit of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award through her unwavering dedication to charitable efforts. 'And production designer Wynn Thomas has brought some of the most enduring films to life through a visionary eye and mastery of his craft.' Following the news, movie fans flocked to social media to unpack Tom's latest achievement, with many wondering how he hadn't already taken home an Oscar. Reddit user Jnighy fumed: 'Born in 4th of July, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Jerry Maguire and Colateral. They had so many chances to give him an actual Oscar [sic].' Dianagorgon insisted: 'Cruise should have won an Oscar a long time ago.' 'He should have one already to be fair. But I'm really glad he's getting it none the less,' SangiMTL agreed. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'His absolute love and dedication to the art is second to none and that passion is seen on screen. He absolutely deserves this honor and recognition. Well deserved [sic].' Krazykarrottop posted: 'Like him or hate him, he deserves this. His commitment to the art of film is leaps and bounds past any other actor.' Lolalight16 declared: 'Of course he should have a bunch of these already but I'm still so happy for him! There's no one more deserving!' As StorytellingZ added: 'I normally don't say this, but for some reason him getting an Honorary Oscar at this point of his career feels more special than him getting an acting award as of now. 'Feels like the whole package deal: the actor, the producer, and the stunt man.' Tom is, without a doubt, one of the biggest actors to grace the big screen, having started his career in the early 80s with stints in Endless Love and the Outsiders, before leaving us all stunned in 1983 projects Risky Business and All the Right Moves. He led the way in 1986 classic Top Gun, taking on the role of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell opposite Val Kilmer and Jennifer Connolly – with the trio reprising their roles in 2022 blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick. More Trending The Hollywood favorite racked up appearances in Cocktail, Rain Man, Interview with a Vampire and A Few Good Men before landing the leading role in the Mission: Impossible franchise. He starred as Ethan Hunt in eight action-packed flicks including the most recent instalment, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which was released last month. Aside from his action blockbusters, Tom has also showcased his range in Tropic Thunder, The Mummy, Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky. Unsurprisingly, he is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down and is set to work with Alejandro González Iñárritu on an untitled comedy slated for release next year. Got a story? The arrows ace has had an unbelievable 18 months since first bursting onto the sporting scene with him becoming the youngest ever world champion and bagging an MBE. Luke, now 18, has gone on to win two World Series of Darts titles, 13 PDC titles and five major titles, as well as being crowned the youngest player to hit a televised nine-dart finish. His impressive accolades and lucrative sponsorship deals have even propelled him to a net worth of over £2million and helped him become one of the nation's most-loved sportsmen. But he's been lovingly mocked by his pal Morgan Burtwistle, better known as streamer AngryGinge, in recent days about the one thing Luke can't quite get to grips with. AngryGinge - the stand out celebrity in Soccer Aid last weekend - mocked Luke about not being able to pass his driving theory on national TV. The pair made their debut appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox on Friday night, when Luke's YouTube mate quizzed him on his overflowing trophy cabinet. Pointing to the impressive accolades sitting on a shelf next to the sofa, AngryGinge asks him: 'What have we got behind us here, Luke?' He laughs before correcting himself, adding: 'What haven't we got?' Smirking, Luke acknowledges his awards, including his incredible achievement in May when he became the first person to win five Premier League nights in the same year. The Nuke's even managed to sweep up a sixth triumph which took him past his own tally of nightly wins from last year, where he won a maiden title. Luke Littler's journey from 13-year-old darts prodigy to 17-year-old world champion as he turns 18 Laughing, AngryGinge goes on: 'You get a bonus as well don't you? We can all do the maths, Luke. You're doing alright.' But then he lovingly mocks: 'You can do all this, but you can't pass your driving theory.' Luke, who laughs in response, previously revealed when he turned 17 that driving lessons were first on his agenda. But it appears he's been unable to hit the roads ever since as he continues to stall over his theory test. Following his show-stopping display at Alexandra Palace in January, Luke, of Warrington, Cheshire, said he was desperate to get behind the wheel. He revealed that his dream car is a modest Mercedes A-Class - a step up from his previous favourite Ford Focus - and he was eyeing one up with his £500,000 winnings. But the sportsman was initially forced to cancel his driving lessons due to burnout fears regarding his busy schedule. He had more bad luck when vandals trashed his van in May during an exhibition appearance in Norwich. Luke, who owns the vehicle and is driven around by his team, branded the thugs 'scum of the earth'. His representative has been contacted for comment. 5 Luke and AngryGinge have been close friends for some time with the YouTube star often appearing at Luke's darts matches Credit: Reuters
