"The Chiefs knew that Kelce was going to be gone this week," Fowler said. "He's expected back for minicamp. He'll address the media, be on the practice field—all that fun stuff. And he will debut a bit of a slimmer look. He's told people close to him that he's lost about 25 pounds this offseason." Working his way into better shape could be exactly what Kelce needs to get back on track. His numbers last season were solid, but not great. Speaking of his 2024 season, Kelce played in 16 games. He caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns. Again, there's nothing to be upset about from those numbers, but Kelce has produced a lot more than that throughout his career. He's looking to take every step he can to lead Kansas City back to the Super Bowl and to take the next step to add another ring. Kelce believes he can still play at a very high level and make a major impact. "I still feel like I can play at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year," Kelce said. "I don't think it was my best outing, you know? I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I've been in years past. You know, I want to give it a good run. I got a bad taste in my mouth about how I ended the year and how well I was playing, and how accountable I was for the people around me." It will be interesting to see what the 2025 season has in store for Kelce and the Chiefs. He's working hard to increase his individual performance, and dropping 25 pounds could help him become a much more dynamic weapon for Patrick Mahomes. Former Houston Texans RB Cam Akers signs one-year deal with the Saints Former Houston Texans running back Cam Akers has a new home for the upcoming season. Akers, who spent half of the 2024 season as the Texans' No. 2 runner, agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints Friday afternoon. He will join the franchise as a backup to Alvin Kamara, along with returning secondary option Kendre Miller and rookie Devin Neal. A former second-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams out of Florida State, Akers' career has been plagued with injuries since 2021. Heading into the campaign, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon, but was able to return for the end of the playoffs and the Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Since 2023, Akers has bounced around the league. He had two separate stints with the Minnesota Vikings and started two games last season in place of the injured Joe Mixon. Houston traded Akers back to Minnesota ahead of the trade deadline following Mixon's return. Signed to a one-year, $1.175 million deal, Akers proved he was healthy enough to make the active roster. He also ended up being a decent pass-catcher once he arrived in Minnesota. Between the two teams, Akers finshed 104 carries for 444 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 68 yards and three scores. "Cam is an experienced player," Saints coach Kellen Moore said following his signing. "He's done a lot throughout this league. As you go through this, you're always trying to evaluate as many players as you possibly can. So we felt like it was a great opportunity, and we are fired up that he was wanting to come out here." The Texans open the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 7 at SoFi Stadium.
