Locker room will move to new building near driving range at Augusta National in 2026
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Masters Tournament participants are expected to be changing their golf shoes in a different location in 2026.
The current locker room at Augusta National Golf Club for non-champions has always been located on the first floor of the clubhouse. It's been renovated over the years, but it's always been there.
By the 2026 Masters, however, that locker room space – with many more amenities – will move into a new building, behind the area where grandstands currently overlook the driving range and chipping area, according to two sources.
The Champions Locker Room is located on the second floor of the clubhouse and will remain where it is.
The new facility would like take over a location currently occupied by the caddie shack, officially known as the Golf Services Building, adjacent to the range.
Masters Tournament and club chairman Fred Ridley first referenced the move at his news conference before the 2024 Masters.
'It will feature a three-level state-of-the-art facility, designed to anticipate every need for players, their families, and support teams,' Ridley said then, adding more details would be shared at his 2025 news conference, scheduled for Wednesday.
Ridley didn't say then that the new building would replace the caddie shack, but it makes sense. Many players already use the caddie shack as their locker room, and dine there, too, because of its convenience to the Tournament Practice Area, which is east of the current locker room.
The original locker room, which is for members except during Masters Week, overlooks the golf course, just in front of the first tee.
While the caddie shack is popular, many current players still use the locker room, especially a European contingent that includes Rory McIlroy, and a number of the University of Georgia alumni. They share the buffet and chat in a small dining area.
Russell Henley, one of those former Georgia players, was asked about the locker room change on Sunday.
'I think that's cool having a view of the course,' he said of the current setup, 'but I think whatever they do (at the new one) is going to be incredible.'

Little League World Series scores: Schedule, results as Connecticut reaches U.S. championship, South Carolina survives
The 2025 Little League World Series is underway. Four teams continue their quest to win it all in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Thursday in the annual summer tournament. A new winner will be crowned in 2025 after last year's champion, Lake Mary, Florida, was eliminated in the regional round. Connecticut beat Nevada on Wednesday to reach the U.S. championship game. Nevada could still make the U.S. title game if it beats South Carolina, which rallied from five runs down to beat South Dakota in extra innings in Wednesday night's elimination game. Chinese Taipei clinched a spot in the international championship game with its victory over Venezuela, and Aruba advanced with a win over Japan. Catch up on all of the action below. Thursday's LLWS schedule Santa Cruz Aruba vs. Barquisimeto Venezuela, 3 p.m ET, ESPN Winner advances to International championship game South Carolina vs. Nevada, 7 p.m. ET, ESPNWinner advances to U.S. championship game Little League World Series format In case you need a refresher, the 2025 Little League World Series will feature a total of 20 teams: 10 from the United States and 10 international clubs. Those teams will compete in a modified double-elimination tournament. Play began Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the winners advancing and remaining in the winners' portion of the bracket. Starting Saturday, Aug. 16, the teams that lost their first games will face off to determine which teams remain in the event. Once a team loses twice, it is eliminated. That changes once the championships begin. The U.S. championship game and the international championship game will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, and will both be single-elimination games. The same thing will be true for the LLWS championship game. That creates a scenario in which a team could be eliminated from the event with just one loss. Games will last six innings. If a game is tied after six innings, both teams will play the seventh inning as normal, with no ghost runners on base. If a game extends past the seventh inning, a runner will open each inning on second base. How to watch the Little League World Series Every game through Friday will air on ESPN. On Saturday, both the U.S. championship game and the international championship game will air on ABC. The LLWS championship will also air on ABC on Sunday. That game will begin at 3 p.m. ET. Fans looking to watch the consolation game on the 24th will be able to do so over on ESPN2. That game begins at 10 a.m. ET. Rory McIlroy Reveals Massive Masters Purchase That Cleaned Out Merch Tent
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It took Rory McIlroy a total of 17 years of consistency and practice to win the Masters title, when he broke his 11-year major curse at Augusta National this year. It was the moment that defined the season, and perhaps his career. McIlroy had made a solo trip to Augusta weeks before the tournament, flying in privately to walk and study the greens. That early visit paid off in full swing with a green jacket, and now he is planning a return to Augusta again. More Photo by"I've already planned a couple of trips with some friends or some members beforehand," McIlroy told reporters at East Lake ahead of the Tour Championship. "It'll probably be a little emotional. I definitely have planned one trip that my dad is going to come on as well, and my dad wasn't there when I won, so I think that'll be a cool moment to be with him. "To go there, I have a lot of members there that have become good friends over the years, and to be able to enjoy that with them and play the golf course again and sort of reminisce over the good and the bad that happened over the course of the week, yeah, that'll be really cool." He added that visiting Augusta outside of tournament week has always felt more special. "It's a beautiful place to play golf. If you stop to actually look around and hear the birds, it's one of the coolest experiences you can have in golf." But McIlroy didn't stop there. The 29-time PGA Tour winner also opened up purchasing all 1,100 remaining Masters pin flags from the tournament shop after his win. Each flag retails for $30, meaning McIlroy spent roughly $33,000 to ensure fans and friends could receive a signed piece of history. "But it's been a lot. But I'll never get sick of signing them. I've waited 17 years to sign that flag in the middle, and I will never complain about doing it." Despite the magnitude of his win, the Irishman admits he's barely worn the green jacket. "I always thought if I had one, if I did win the Masters one day, I'd never have the thing off," the newest Masters champ stated on Tuesday. "And it hasn't been that way. I haven't worn it as much as I thought I would." Next year, McIlroy will walk at Augusta again, but this time as a champion, with his father by his side, and the green jacket waiting in the champions locker room.
