If possible, it's generally considered polite etiquette to offer your seat to someone who requires it more than you do when travelling on crowded public transport. This might include older passengers, individuals with disabilities who struggle to remain standing for extended periods, and expectant mothers.
However, one woman has stood her ground and declined to give up her seat on a crowded bus for a pregnant passenger who boarded after her. The woman insisted she had valid reasons for refusing to move, despite upsetting the expectant mother, and others have actually supported her decision.
In a Reddit post, the 22-year-old woman explained she has an invisible disability that prevents her from standing for lengthy periods, meaning she genuinely required her bus seat.
But when a pregnant woman climbed aboard several stops later, she headed directly towards the young passenger and declared she "needed her seat". The woman outlined her disability and explained she couldn't move, but the expectant mother refused to accept this response - even accusing her of "trying to harm her baby" by declining to budge.
The woman posted: "I was sitting in a seat by the aisle, cramped between a school kid and a man with a massive backpack, when a pregnant woman (not heavily pregnant from what I could see) stepped into the bus. She took one look around, made a beeline for me and told me she needed my seat."
"No polite question, no please, no hello, just the demand to give up my seat. I explained to her that I had a disability and that I struggle standing, and that I would rather not be in pain.
"Without missing a beat, that woman began calling me rude and saying that I was trying to harm her and her baby by refusing to get up."
Eventually, another passenger on the bus offered up their seat, and the expectant mum was able to sit down. But when the woman later stood up to get off the bus, the other traveller couldn't help but make a "snide remark".
She added: "Some other woman then offered her seat, but I could feel for the rest of the ride that that pregnant woman was throwing glares at me. When I got up at my stop, she made a snide remark about how I was surely faking and that I could walk just fine.
"I just hate when some people feel like the world has to bend at their will just because they're pregnant, and especially being so rude about the whole situation. I would've given up my seat no problem if I wasn't disabled."
Those commenting on the post were largely supportive of the poster, with many suggesting the pregnant woman should have approached the schoolchild or the gentleman seated in the same area to ask if they would surrender their seats instead.
One person said: "I know that it sounds a bit strange, but she chose to target you over a school kid and a man? And both the man and the school kid didn't offer their seat to a pregnant woman?"
Another person chimed in: "I feel angry for you. I know how this would feel. I also cannot stand long without being in massive pain, but I use a wheelchair when I go out. If I were forced out of a seat and made to stand, I think I would end up falling down in pain."
Meanwhile, a third individual commented: "Unfortunately, all you can do is ignore rude people to the best of your ability and know that hopefully you'll never see her again! And don't you just love that apparently NONE of the men on the bus stood up and offered her a seat automatically."

Cracker Barrel makes controversial change for first time in 48 years and company value tanks: 'Yikes'

Diners are slamming Cracker Barrel for removing the 'cracker and the barrel' from its logo. The chain has debuted a new logo for the first time in 48 years, which removes the image of an old man leaning against a barrel, and leaves just the name in a new font. It also removes the pinto bean shape behind the name, which was a nod to one of the original sides offered when the store and restaurant first opened in 1969. Americans have been quick to slam the change on social media, and the company's shares have plummeted since it first announced the new logo on Tuesday. On Thursday alone, the company has shed almost $200 million in market value. Furious customers are claiming that the company has lost its personality and its history with the rebranding. Crackers used to be delivered to old country stores in barrels, and when they were empty, they were used as makeshift tables which people would congregate around. 'This rebrand says nothing about history or tradition and everything about marketing consultants making quick money,' one Reddit user wrote. The old logo features an image of an old man leaning against a barrel 'The brief: "remove all personality from the logo, and ensure our brand blends into and disappears into the competitive landscape,"' a Reddit user wrote. 'So they got rid of the cracker and the barrel,' another person commented. One simply commented: 'Yikes,' while another person described the change as 'such a downgrade.' Some conservative commentators have taken particular issue with the rebrand, and Donald Trump Jr. even took to X to share his thoughts, writing: 'WTF is wrong with Cracker Barrel??!' The redesign comes as the company has been revamping its more than 650 restaurants across the US — ditching southern-style for modern decor. This has also caused customer backlash, with some saying 'nobody wants this' and accusing the chain of turning it into 'any other restaurant.' Rebrand controversies have increased over the last several years, with fans claiming that businesses are losing their charm. Gap and McDonald's were some of the chains Reddit users compared Cracker Barrel's new logo to. 'People like what we're doing,' Cracker Barrel president and CEO Julie Felss Masino said earlier this week 'If I ever go to my local Cracker Barrel and they roll out this sign and the new interior, I genuinely won't be going back,' a guest revealed. Fans are now calling on the 56-year-old chain to 'revert to the original logo.' However, Cracker Barrel is adamant in going through with the revamp. 'People like what we're doing,' Cracker Barrel president and CEO Julie Felss Masino told Good Morning America on Tuesday. 'Cracker Barrel needs to feel like the Cracker Barrel for today and for tomorrow — the things that you love are still there. We need people to choose us, and we want people to choose us.' She added that the top question Florida-based managers asked her during a recent meeting was 'How can I get a remodel, when can I get a remodel and how do I get on the list?.' Cracker Barrel's new fall menu and 'all the more' campaign could make up for fans' disappointment in its new logo. The redesign comes as the company has also been revamping its restaurants Cracker Barrel has over 650 locations across the US 'We believe in the goodness of country hospitality, a spirit that has always defined us. Our story hasn't changed. Our values haven't changed,' said chief marketing officer Sarah Moore. 'With 'All the More,' we're honoring our legacy while bringing fresh energy, thoughtful craftsmanship and heartfelt hospitality to our guests this fall.' Among the foods featured in its new fall menu include Sausage & Egg Hashbrown Casserole, Herb Roasted Chicken and Butter Pecan Sticky Buns. Chains like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' have also dropped fall menus early. Chick-fil-A was one of the latest to do so on August — introducing Pretzel Cheddar Club Sandwiches.

Serena Williams reveals secret behind incredible weight loss and body transformation

Tennis legend Serena Williams, 43, has explained how she has managed to shed a remarkable 31 pounds over the past 18 months following the birth of her second child Serena Williams has revealed that she has used a weight loss drug to help her body transformation after having two children. ‌ The tennis legend says she has struggled to control her weight since giving birth to her eldest daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017 and then her second daughter Adira River in August 2023. Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion and, although she retired from tennis in 2022, she still works out regularly. ‌ Nevertheless, Williams decided she wanted to reduce her weight 18 months ago and turned to medication. She has been using Zepbound, a GLP-1-based drug that is similar to other brands like Ozempic and Mounjaro. ‌ GLP-1 is short for glucagon-like peptide-1 and is a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite. She has opened up on her decision in an interview with People in which she explained her progress. 'I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,' the 43-year-old said. 'It was crazy because I'd never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at. 'I had never taken shortcuts in my career and always worked really hard. I know what it takes to be the best. So it was very frustrating to do all the same things and never be able to change that number on the scale or the way my body looked.' ‌ Williams has lost a remarkable 31 pounds (14kg) since starting on the drug, which is taken via weekly injections. She began taking it in early 2024, around six months after giving birth to Adira, who she shares with her husband Alexis Ohanian. The American tennis star is now a paid spokesperson for health care company Ro, who make the drug, while Ohanian, who co-founded social media site Reddit, is also an investor. ‌ She is now training for a half-marathon and spends plenty of time in the gym working out too. 'I just can do more. I'm more active,' Williams added. 'My joints don't hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me. And I do it a lot faster. I feel like I have a lot of energy and it's great. I just feel pretty good about it.' Williams took the decision to use the weight loss drug, despite knowing about the stigma around them. 'I've never felt that pressure to maintain a certain appearance,' she said. 'I always felt comfortable at any size, whether I was a lot heavier or not. I do feel like my body didn't like me at that weight. I had pain in my joints and pain in different areas just because of the extra weight that I'm not used to carrying since I had children.'

'Evil' landlord evicts tenants because daughter of family is being bullied by school kids who are vandalising the property

An "evil" landlord has evicted his tenants because the daughter of the family is being bullied by other kids who are vandalising their property. The landlord took to Reddit on Wednesday to explain their home has been damaged by at least six incidents in the past month, including broken windows and spray paint destruction, because the girl is being "targeted". The homeowner said her bullying stems from the daughter getting in trouble with kids at school, and it's now taking a toll on everyone. Fed up with the young perpetrators "concealing themselves" well or "getting away fast" to escape being caught, as well as dealing with the cost of repairs, the landlord has made a very tough decision. "To be honest, it makes me nervous having such destructive people targeting the place I live, and I know my other tenants also feel unsafe," they wrote on the social media platform. "I felt the best solution was to get rid of these tenants. "So I gave them 30 days' notice." The landlord said the tenants are upset about the eviction, which has only added "more stress" to the strain of their young daughters' harassment. "The dad of the family actually said I am f****** evil," the homeowner wrote. "But at this point, I feel like maybe it would be in everyone's best interest for them to move. Even them." People flooded the comments to offer their verdicts, with some people arguing moving the anguished tenants on will not stop the vandalism. "Don't expect the vandalism to stop just because they've moved. The vandals won't know or won't care," one person said. "Why do you think the vandalism will stop when they are gone? Do bullies have a change-of-address form you can submit?" another person said. Other people urged the landlord first to contact the police and install equipment around the home to deter the children causing havoc, saying evicting the family without taking these measures is simply cruel. "Has the police offered any guidance or support?" one person questioned. "Better cameras, motion lights, maybe even they would be willing to do more patrols in the neighbourhood or around the school? "To think the kid has zero idea who might be doing this after months is wild. Kids talk." Another person said it would be horrible if the daughter is being bullied, only for the bullies to get her family evicted, playing into their ploy. "That does seem pretty cruel. Please say you went to the police before evicting," the commentator said. One more person agreed, writing: "Sorry, a 30 notice is just plain cruel, especially in this economy. "Now, this family has to come up with first and last month's payment plus security deposit within 30 days or face being homeless." Meanwhile, a last person said this is an issue for the school and police to "solve immediately". As for where this advice leaves the landlord, they said the tenants have taken responsibility for the vandalism, but the eviction notice remains. "The tenants have confirmed the vandalism is because of them," the person said. "Also, there are already cameras, and the police have been involved."
