EPIC number row: Tejashwi Yadav yet to submit original voter ID; asked to furnish by Friday

yet to furnish the original copy of his elector's photo identity card (EPIC) flashed at a press conference in Patna but which was later not found by EC to be 'officially issued', the concerned electoral registration officer (ERO) on Wednesday set a deadline of August 8 for him to do the needful.
The ERO, in a reminder sent to Tejashwi on Wednesday, cited his letter dated August 3, in which he was asked to submit original EPIC card no RAB2916120 for a thorough investigation into its authenticity and origins. 'You are requested to provide details of the card, along with its original copy, by the afternoon of August 8,' he told the former deputy chief minister of

Tejashwi had, at a press conference on August 2, claimed that a search of Bihar's draft electoral roll with his EPIC no RAB2916120 had found his name missing, only to be fact-checked by the
Election Commission
that his name and actual EPIC No. RAB0456228 were very much included. The poll panel later said it had failed to find any EPIC no RAB2916120 issued by its authorised officers, in its past records from 10 years.
If found fake, there may be legal consequences, including an FIR, as per sources in EC.

Shah also criticized RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav for allegedly protecting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who, he claimed, are taking jobs from the people of Bihar. Shah said that Rahul Gandhi should stop this vote bank politics on SIR and added that the exercise is a routine process and not a new development. Citing historical precedent, Shah noted that it was introduced by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and carried out during previous governments as well. "Who does Lalu Prasad Yadav want to save? ... Do you want to save those Bangladeshis who come from outside and snatch jobs of the people of Bihar? ... Rahul Gandhi should stop this vote bank politics and SIR is not happening for the first time. It was started by Jawaharlal Nehru and it happened in 2003 as well. They are finding reasons as they are going to lose the Bihar elections," Shah said. Shah also targeted RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and his family, accusing them of failing to bring development to Mithilanchal despite being in power for several years. He alleged that their tenure was instead marked by lawlessness and criminal activity. "I want to ask Tejashwi Yadav, his father and mother were in power for a long time. Apart from hooliganism, running gangs, kidnapping, demanding ransom, what have you done for the development of Mithilanchal?" Shah said. Election Commission of India is yet to announce the official schedule for the Bihar Assembly election; the polls are expected to take place in October or November 2025.

PATNA: Union Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of shielding Bangladeshi infiltrators by protesting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, saying that those who were not born in India have no constitutional right to vote. Addressing a public meeting in Bihar's Sitamarhi district after laying the foundation stone of the Mata Janki Temple, Shah alleged that Congress was trying to protect Bangladeshi infiltrators as they were the party's vote bank. 'I want to know from Rahul Gandhi ji, who always carries a copy of the Constitution in his hand, whether he has ever read it,' he said. He clarified that SIR was not being conducted for the first time, pointing out that the process had started during the regime of Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and that the last such revision was carried out in 2003. 'Rahul has been protesting SIR as he apprehends his party's defeat in the coming election in Bihar,' he asserted. Slamming the Congress-RJD combine for opposing SIR in Parliament, the Union Home Minister said that these parties had so far not registered any complaint with the Election Commission during the claims and counterclaims process for adding or deleting names of electors. He alleged that the Opposition was making a hue and cry over the issue of SIR purely for political reasons.
