JAF, US launch "Dragon Eye" drill on WMD response
Ammon News - The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) on Sunday launched the "Dragon Eye" field drill at the Chemical Support Group of the Royal Engineering Corps. According to a JAF statement, the exercise is conducted in cooperation with the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy, under the Jordan-US program to counter weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The exercise is designed to enhance national response to nuclear and radiological incidents, identify strengths and gaps in security systems, bolster JAF's ability to deal with unconventional threats, and improve procedures for handling WMD threats. It also seeks to raise level of joint coordination and interoperability between Jordanian and US forces in field training and operational practice. The drill featured multiple field scenarios simulating nuclear and radiological threats, aimed at building participants' practical skills and facilitating technical knowledge exchange among stakeholders.

A high-level seminar in Beijing has spotlighted the growing influence of media in shaping scientific collaboration and sustainable development across the globe. Held at the Donghu International Center, the event brought together Arab and Jordanian journalists, alongside representatives from leading international science and technology organizations. اضافة اعلان Organized by the Cluster for the Headquarters of International Science and Technology Organizations, the seminar is part of an ongoing training program for Arab media professionals taking place from August 12 to 25. Journalists from various Arab countries, including those from the Jordan News Agency (Petra) and the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation, are participating. The Cluster, launched in 2023 and headquartered in Beijing, serves as a global hub for innovation and cooperation among scientific institutions. It aims to foster practical solutions to critical global challenges, ranging from climate change and food security to digital transformation, by uniting researchers, policymakers, and media under a shared mission for sustainable progress. Speaking at the event, Wang Jia, Deputy Secretary-General of the World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS), emphasized the evolving role of media, from mere news delivery to becoming a strategic partner in addressing global issues. He noted the media's power in shaping public understanding of science and driving momentum around the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Wang also introduced the Young Scientist SDGs Award launched by the Association, encouraging Arab scientists to participate and highlight their regional contributions on the world stage. The WAYS aims to create a global platform for young scientists to connect, exchange expertise, and promote a positive vision of science and technology and their role in achieving sustainable development. In another presentation, Lian Fang, a senior disaster risk research strategist, underscored the media's ability to raise awareness about natural disasters and climate risks. She called for stronger efforts in using media to promote early preparedness and adaptation strategies, and to shine a light on grassroots solutions that combat poverty and build resilience. Meanwhile, Wenjing Wu, International Cooperation Manager of World Green Design Orgnization (WGDO), shared insights into "green design" as a forward-thinking approach to development. She explained that green design rests on core principles such as inclusivity, sustainability, systemic thinking, and economic balance urging media to play a role in advocating for such frameworks. The seminar concluded with a collaborative dialogue, where participants exchanged perspectives on how to deepen ties between Arab countries and global scientific networks. His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, met on Saturday morning with H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. اضافة اعلان His Highness conveyed the greetings of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, expressing his pride in the distinguished relations that unite the United Arab Emirates—particularly Sharjah—and the Arab Republic of Egypt. He praised the fruitful cooperation in academic and scientific research fields, which contributes to advancing higher education in both brotherly countries. His Highness commended the efforts of Egypt's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its support for establishing the University of Sharjah branch in Cairo Governorate, affirming that the University of Sharjah is among the leading universities in the Arab world. He added that choosing Egypt as the first country to host a branch reflects the high academic and scientific standing Egypt holds for the Emirate of Sharjah. For his part, H.E. Dr. Ayman Ashour welcomed the President of the University of Sharjah, emphasizing the depth of Egyptian–Emirati relations and expressing Egypt's aspiration to expand these ties through strengthened academic and research partnerships between the two countries. The Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research highlighted the importance of supporting academic and research collaboration between Egyptian and Emirati educational institutions, stressing the need to enhance communication channels between the two sides to broaden opportunities for scientific partnerships that serve both nations' priorities and contribute to building human capacities. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen academic cooperation between the University of Sharjah and Egyptian higher education institutions, including opportunities for faculty and expertise exchange, as well as launching joint academic programs that serve students and meet labor market requirements. They also explored opportunities for student exchange visits between the University of Sharjah and Egyptian universities across various academic programs, enabling students to experience diverse educational environments and participate in academic and cultural activities that enrich their scientific and personal growth. In addition, the discussions addressed expanding cooperation in scientific research through proposed initiatives such as joint research projects, specialized conferences, and workshops, thereby supporting innovation, knowledge production, and solutions to societal and scientific challenges. The meeting was attended by Dr. Mansour bin Nassar, Head of Sharjah Government's Legal Department and Member of the University of Sharjah Board of Trustees; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of Sharjah Media Council; Dr. Hamid Mjul Al Nuaimi, Advisor to the President of the University of Sharjah; and from the Egyptian side, Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, Secretary of the Council of Private Universities; Dr. Mohamed El-Sharkawy, Assistant Minister for Policies and Economic Affairs; and Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
