‘Forgive me, papa': Bharatpur woman dies by suicide; names husband and in-laws in video over dowry, conversion harassment

ALWAR: A 25-year-old woman died by suicide at her parents' house in Bharatpur district on Saturday after allegedly facing persistent harassment over religious conversion and dowry demands from her husband and in-laws.
The deceased, identified as Manja, left behind a haunting video message naming her husband Laxman, mother-in-law Ramdei and brothers-in-law Arun and Rohtash as responsible for her death, police said.
Before taking the extreme step at her parental home in Talimpur village of Bharatpur district, Manja recorded an emotional video plea calling for severe punishment, including death penalty, for her alleged tormentors.
In the video, she detailed the harassment she faced regarding religious conversion from Hinduism to Christianity and dowry demands.
"Forgive me, Papa! Laxman, Ramdei and Rohtash are responsible for my death. They tortured me a lot for religious conversion and dowry," Manja said in the video.
The victim's father, Uday Singh Thakur, filed a complaint at Bayana police station naming multiple family members of his daughter's in-laws, who are residents of Padisal Bassi village in Khairtal-Tijara district.
He revealed that Manja had married Laxman Rajput on Jan 21 and despite providing dowry according to their means, the in-laws demanded additional items including a Bullet motorcycle and ₹1 lakh in cash.
Approximately a month before her death, Manja had informed her father about pressure to convert to Christianity, with pastors allegedly visiting her in-laws' house. Following physical and mental abuse upon her refusal, she had returned to her parental home.
In her final message, Manja specifically requested the return of the ₹10-12 lakh spent on her wedding and appealed for the harshest possible punishment for her alleged tormentors. She expressed concern about her uncle Tarachand, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
On the morning of her death, Manja exhibited signs of distress and retreated to her room. Around 10am, her family discovered she had died by suicide, allegedly hanging herself with her scarf. Authorities confirmed that they recovered a video from her mobile phone, which has become a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
According to Dy SP Krishnaraj Singh, Manja was found hanging in her room. The authorities conducted a post-mortem at Bayana sub-district hospital before releasing the body to her family.

Air India To Insure Passengers On All Flights For Next Few Months After Ahmedabad Tragedy

Following the devastating Air India accident that killed more than 260 people, Air India has decided to insure every passenger on all its flights as a precautionary measure, according to a source in the airline. As per the source, each passenger will be covered for approximately Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. This move will remain in effect for at least the next few months. Three days after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, which has so far claimed over 270 lives, hospital authorities on Sunday confirmed the identification of 47 victims through DNA matching, including that of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Rupani was among the 242 passengers and crew members on board the London-bound Air India flight AI-171 that crashed on Thursday. Only one passengers managed to miraculously survive the crash on that day, while more than 30 people were killed on the ground. Due to the severe condition of many bodies, as they are burnt or disfigured, authorities are relying on DNA matching for identification. '"A total of 47 plane crash victims have been identified so far through DNA matching. Of these, the bodies of 24 victims have been handed over to their respective families. Three days after an Air India flight bound for London crashed in Ahmedabad, authorities have identified 47 victims through DNA testing. Of these, 24 bodies have been handed over to their families, according to an official statement issued on Sunday. 'We have established contact with the next of kin/relatives of all passengers and crew members, expressing our condolences and helping them with the next steps. Over 400 family members have reached Ahmedabad and are being assisted by our teams on the ground,' Air India said in a statement on social media site X. 'Every affected family in Ahmedabad has been assigned at least one caregiver by Air India. Air India is working closely with other Tata Group companies to provide every possible assistance to the families and loved ones of those deceased, which remains our number one priority,' the airline added. Authorities are conducting DNA tests to confirm the identities of the deceased, as several bodies were either burned or damaged. All but one of the 242 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 787-8 (AI171), along with 29 people on the ground, including five MBBS students, died in the crash on Thursday. The aircraft crashed into a medical college campus in Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 p.m. The crash site was sealed on Saturday following the conclusion of rescue operations. Investigations are ongoing, with teams from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, Boeing and other civil aviation authorities inspecting the area. One of the plane's black boxes has been recovered. As of 14 June, Air India reported that it had completed safety checks on nine of its Boeing 787 aircraft and aimed to finish inspections on the remaining 24 within the timeline set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Air India also announced an interim payment of ₹25 lakh, approximately £21,000, to each family of the deceased and the lone survivor. This is in addition to the ₹1 crore (approximately £85,000) support announced earlier by Tata Sons.
