Man sentenced to 35 years for long time sexual abuse of adolescent stepdaughter
According to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, on Friday, Zenn Matthew Vicknair was sentenced to 420 months in prison for abuse that began when his stepdaughter was 9.
Officials said the abuse was pervasive throughout his stepdaughter's life, including when the family moved to Renton, Washington, in 2012.

'Vicknair stepped into the victim's need for love and affection and filled it with pervasive, almost normalized sexual abuse for years of her young life – destroying her sense of self and the bonds of her family,' a statement from the Multnomah County DA said.
The sexual abuse was first reported in 2016 when the victim's mother called the Department of Human Services after her daughter, who was 15 at the time, reported the ongoing sexual contact.
After Vicknair attempted suicide and began experiencing seizures, authorities said that the victim withdrew the allegations during a therapy session.
In 2021, the case was reopened when the victim contacted law enforcement because she was worried about her younger brother's welfare.
Eventually, in 2024, Vicknair was convicted on two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, two counts of first-degree sodomy, and five counts of first-degree sex abuse.

In a statement, Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Robin Skarstad, who prosecuted the case, said that Vicknair's sentencing is an acknowledgement of his years of sexual abuse and the hope that the verdict can bring some peace to the victim.
'The 35-year sentence is an acknowledgement of the repeated instances of egregious sexual abuse committed by the defendant against the most vulnerable of victims. We are so grateful for the strength this now young woman showed in seeking justice and safety for our community and hope that this verdict brings her some peace.'

NBA's Marcus Morris Sr. out of jail after 2 days without bail. ‘Money paid back and lesson learned'
Marcus Morris Sr. appears to be back home after more than two days in a Florida jail following his weekend arrest over money he owed to two Las Vegas casinos. Morris, who played for the Clippers and seven other teams during his 11-year NBA career, took to Instagram on Wednesday morning, writing, 'I woke up in my bed this morning' after having 'to sit for 51 hours no bail and not even a chance to pay it back.' 'So did I go past the time I needed to repay yea probably did, did i know they would locked me up, hellllllllll No,' Morris wrote, followed by four crying while laughing emojis. 'I would pay a thing to stay outta jail. Money paid back and lesson learned.' Morris was arrested Sunday at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on felony fraud charges out of Nevada. Records from the Las Vegas Township Justice Court indicate that warrants were issued earlier this year for Morris' arrest on the same two felony counts in each case — drawing or passing a check for $1,200 or more with the intent to defraud and theft valued at $100,000 or more. During a hearing Tuesday morning in Florida's Broward County, it was confirmed that the warrants for Morris' arrest in Nevada were over outstanding casino markers for more than $100,000 each. Morris was denied bail pending his extradition to Nevada. A prosecuting attorney representing Florida indicated he had been told that Nevada was willing to consider dismissing the warrants if Morris' debts were paid in full. The judge stated that if the warrants against him were dismissed, Morris would be released. An attorney representing Morris said that 'a large payment' had already been sent via wire in an effort to resolve the issue. Morris is no longer listed on the Broward County Sheriff's Office's inmate directory. Las Vegas Township Justice Court records still list both warrants for Morris' arrest as active, but on Tuesday a new court date was set in both cases for Aug. 6. In his lengthy Instagram post, Morris wrote that he does not appreciate how he has been portrayed by some during his ordeal. 'The key word I won't [accept is] fraud because this had nothing to do with no money exchange or me not being able to pay something,' he wrote. 'My Character means everything to me and my family as well. I hate for Vegas to really make me really look like a criminal over a petty couple hundred. And really made me sit 51 hours over that s—.' He said that he and his twin brother, NBA veteran Markieff Morris, will appear 'on a platform sometime soon ... to explain what took place and what lessons was learned for the young [athletes] that watch and look up to us.'

Nassau County candidates clash over NUMC controversy as pressure mounts for state, federal action
Allegations of financial mismanagement from past leaders at Nassau University Medical Center are taking center stage in the race for Nassau County District Attorney, as legislative and district attorney candidates clash over accountability and oversight. Democratic challenger Nicole Aloise called Republican incumbent DA Anne Donnelly to take action and fully investigate former CEO Meg Ryan and other former leadership over what she called a 'blatant pattern of public corruption' on Wednesday outside the Nassau County Courthouse. Aloise called recent reports 'concerning,' referencing thousand-dollar dinners charged to the hospital, allegations of Ryan funneling $3.5 million in improper payouts to herself and 12 other employees, and an mysterious break-in at former NUMC chairman Matthew Bruderman's home. Advertisement 3 Aloise said that incumbent DA Anne Donnelly should take actions and investigate former CEO Meg Ryan. Nicole Aloise/Instagram 'Since this came out, Nassau County legislators have called on the Nassau County District Attorney to fully investigate what has been happening at NUMIC, and after almost four years in office, it is well past time for Anne Donnelly to put a stop to these blatant acts of public corruption in the county government,' Aloise told reporters. County Legislators echoed the calls for accountability, holding a press conference of their own in Mineola, calling for federal investigators to step in since the county won't. Advertisement 'NUMC exists to save lives – not bankroll lobster dinners and luxury perks for politically connected insiders,' Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton said. 'This pattern of abuse is a betrayal of public trust, and we are taking the next step to ensure full accountability.' Nassau County police have said they're still investigating the break-in at Bruderman's home, and have yet to announce any arrests or updates — but Bruderman previously said that some hospital-related documents that went missing were recovered by police from an unidentified couple before his firing. 3 Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton speaking at the podium and calling for a federal investigation into Matthew Bruderman's sudden firing in April. When asked for comment, Donnelly said she opened an investigation into NUMC's previous management in June, which her office said remains active. Advertisement But Aloise said she believes that investigation only exists on paper, and told The Post she doesn't believe any resources are actually being allocated into that case — pointing to thousands of dollars in political donations from Ryan to Donnelly. 'She either isn't being truthful about an active investigation or she's demonstrating just how unfit she is for the job by taking money from someone her office is supposed to be investigating,' Aloise said. 3 Nassau University Medical center located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY. Edmund J Coppa Campaign finance records show that Ryan donated to Donnelly's campaign in 2023, two years before the DA's office opened its investigation into NUMC. Advertisement Ryan, who was officially terminated 'for cause' in May, has denied any wrongdoing and is suing the hospital over her dismissal, calling the accusations against her a 'political hit job' 'Any suggestion that she did anything improper or was reimbursed inappropriately is just another effort to distract from the State's Medicaid corruption, now under investigation by Congress, the millions in illegal no-bid contracts approved by Hochul's new appointees and NHCC's violation of Ms. Ryan's employment contract,' Ryan's spokesperson, Tom Basile said. NUMC, Nassau's only safety-net hospital, remains more than $1 billion in debt and is currently under audit by the global accounting firm Deloitte, which Ryan's team accused of being awarded an illegal no-bid contract by the hospital's new leadership, after state lawmakers restructured the hospital's board earlier this year.

Shannon Sharpe will not return to ESPN as a commentator on ‘First Take'
Shannon Sharpe will not be returning to ESPN, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who is not authorized to publicly discuss it. The development comes weeks after the former NFL star settled a $50-million lawsuit that accused him of rape. Attorney Tony Buzbee, whose firm represented the woman who filed the civil lawsuit against Sharpe earlier this year, announced the settlement on July 18 in a statement posted on Instagram. Sharpe's legal team said at the time that Buzbee's statement should be considered the 'final word' on the matter. Terms of the settlement have not been disclosed. The lawsuit was filed on April 20 in Clark County in Nevada. Sharpe's accuser sought damages for claims of assault, sexual assault, battery, sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress after multiple alleged non-consensual sexual encounters in her Las Vegas apartment between October and January. The sports media personality has denied the allegations. He announced days after the lawsuit was filed that he was temporarily stepping away from his duties as a commentator on ESPN's 'First Take' but would return in time for the 2025 NFL season. At that time, an ESPN spokesperson said in a statement emailed to The Times that 'this is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon's decision to step away.' Sharpe has remained on his popular podcasts 'Club Shay Shay' and 'Nightcap.' The Athletic was the first to report that Sharpe won't be returning to ESPN. The network declined to comment for this story.
