PA Turnpike officials expecting busy Easter weekend
Middletown, PA — (WJET/WFXP)– Easter weekend is nearly here and Pennsylvania Turnpike officials are ready for more than 2 million people to hit the road.
Despite Easter falling later than usual this year, PA Turnpike officials are projecting roughly 2.18 million cars to use the Turnpike this weekend, a 1.5% increase from last year.
In light of the expected increase in traffic, Turnpike officials said construction work will be suspended starting at 5 a.m. Thursday morning and will start again at 11 p.m. on Monday, April 21 in order to keep as many lanes open as possible.
Officials are projecting Friday, April 18 to be the busiest travel day of the weekend, predicting roughly 610,000 travelers with similar numbers on Monday predicting 590,000 travelers.
In light of all of the anticipated traffic, Turnpike officials said there will be increased police patrols throughout the weekend and are advising drivers to practice safe driving habits.
Before hitting the road, travelers who know the route they're taking can calculate how much their tolls will be ahead of time using the .
Officials are also reminding anyone who takes the Turnpike they will NEVER receive a text from them about unpaid tolls and those tolls can be paid directly on the PA Toll Pay app or on the E-ZPass website.
Live road conditions including closing and slowdowns can be viewed 24/7 online on the 511PA website.

3,600 pairs of new Maine license plates to be replaced after printing error
Jun. 6—The state will replace thousands of newly issued license plates after a printing error, the Department of the Secretary of State said. About 3,600 pairs of license plates were printed with the wrong amount of space between numbers and letters, office spokesperson Jana Spaulding said on a Friday evening phone call. She said the erroneous license plates were printed within the same time frame. "It could potentially cause an issue with E-ZPass and other things that do that character reading," she said. "Obviously an inconvenience, which is unfortunate, but was caught quickly." The new plates, which feature a pine tree reminiscent of the 1901 state flag, are being manufactured in Canada. They began replacing Maine's time-honored chickadee plates last month. The 3,600 drivers who were issued the faulty plates are being notified by letter. The office will mail impacted drivers replacement plates and sticker tags at no cost. They should arrive in August, though the timeline may change, the bureau said in its letter. In the meantime, drivers are asked to use the errant plates and notify the Bureau of Motor Vehicles of any issues related to scanning, Spaulding said. "It's a relatively minor, short-term error," she said, adding that the issue affected only "3,600 out of a few million" the agency intends to distribute this year. Those who receive replacement plates can return the faulty ones to the BMV or hold onto them as a keepsake, but they should not be used on a vehicle, Spaulding said. Copy the Story Link

Is Ford's Model e Business Dragging Down its Overall Results?
US Legacy automaker Ford Motor Company F operates a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) segment, Model e, to focus and strategize its efforts toward EVs. The company's Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning EVs have been received well by customers. The segment, however, has failed to generate profits for the company despite continued improvements. After having incurred losses of $4.7 billion in its EV business in 2023, Ford's loss from Model e widened to $5.07 billion in 2024, exacerbated by ongoing pricing pressure and increased investments in next-generation EVs. The segment incurred losses of $849 million in the first quarter of 2025, owing to stiff competition, pricing pressure and significant costs associated with new-generation EV development. The company is expected to incur huge losses in its EV business this year as well. The persisting pricing pressures caused by stiff competition in the industry are significantly ailing margins. China's markets, led by BYD, have been slashing prices, forcing others to follow. The industry also remains prone to supply-chain disruptions. To keep up with the contemporary developments in the industry, Ford has to consistently invest ample amounts. Although the investments are weighing down cash flows, these remain indispensable. Ford is working to improve charging infrastructure throughthe Ford Power Promise campaign, the success of which has already provided customers with a home charger in standard installation. Further plans to drive volumes in the upcoming quarters with recent launches are in place. Toyota Motor Corporation TM, a Japanese auto giant, also remains cautious in its approach toward fully electric vehicles. Toyota's EVs did not constitute more than 1% of its sales globally in fiscal 2025. This has led Toyota to plan on cutting down its EV production target by 20%, reducing from 1.5 million to 1 million units by 2026. However, the company has started to unveil several new EVs. In China, Toyota launched its most affordable EV, the bZ3X, in March, starting at just over $15,000, to regain the market. Honda HMC, TM's closest peer, is also cutting down its EV production as global demand remains stunted. Honda rather seems to shift its focus toward hybrid cars, aiming to launch 13 new hybrid models globally between 2027 and 2030. With rising pressure in China and loosened emission targets in the United States, Honda is expecting a rise in hybrids' popularity, leading to a 30% lowered investment target in EVs. Shares of Ford have lost around 10% year to date against the industry's growth of 11%.
