A Sherwood Park man has been charged in relation to a stolen vehicle investigation in Airdrie.
On Aug. 11 at 9 p.m., Airdrie RCMP received a request to help Calgary police with a stolen vehicle investigation involving a vehicle taken from the 2400 block of 24A Street S.W. around 4:40 p.m. that day.
Police say a dog was taken with the vehicle but the dog was let go and it found its way home safely.
Police believed the stolen vehicle, a 2007 Black Acura TSX, was being driven north on the QEII.
Officers covertly followed as the vehicle was driven north on Highway 2, including one point where it started driving north in the southbound lanes at high speed.
Luckily, police say there wasn't much southbound traffic at the time. Eventually, the vehicle became stuck and police were able to block it. The driver was arrested and transported to Ponoka General Hospital for minor injuries before being discharged.
A 29-year-old resident of Sherwood, Alta., was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while prohibited, breach of a release order and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Following a bail hearing, the suspect was remanded into custody. He's scheduled to appear in court in Ponoka on Friday.
