According to Gaming Bible, some eagle-eyed fans have spotted that GTA 6 has a preload that's now available. The new rumour surfaced just before the 10 months away from being able to play Grand Theft Auto VI, but fans are getting restless for more information about the game.
Reddit post about the GTA 6 pre-load sparks discussion
Back in June, a Reddit user noticed that GTA VI could be partially loaded to their Xbox console. As per the post, players using Xbox consoles can find this after going onto the Xbox store and hitting the download button.
Players, when trying to do this, were prompted to download a 328.8 MB file to their system. However, GTA 6 is going to be over 328.8 MB. As per Gaming Bible, what's actually happening is that Xbox isn't pre-loading the full game just yet—instead, it's downloading a small 328MB placeholder file.
This file acts as a trigger, allowing the system to automatically begin the proper preload once the full game becomes available. It's a standard feature on modern Xbox consoles, designed to streamline major releases like GTA 6 and ensure players are ready to jump in the moment the game officially launches.
Netizens react to GTA 6's pre-load on Xbox
As soon as the post surfaced on Reddit, it quickly went viral. One user wrote, "It's the legit game, but just a pre-load. You can install games you don't own from the Xbox app the moment they're added to the store. It will get updated with the full game once preloads go live but obviously won't be playable without owning the game."
While one commented, "This isn't even a preload. It's 328 MB. It's likely an error."
"With the Xbox app you can pre-add the game like this pretty early once it's on the store, even if no actual build was pushed," one added.
