How to watch the 2025 NFL schedule release on Wednesday night

New York Times14-05-2025

It's something of a minor holiday for pro football obsessives and folks who ritualize stadium road trips. The NFL's 18-week regular-season schedule is revealed in full on Wednesday night, with updated slates for all 32 teams and a look at the primetime broadcast picks. Flights will be checked, group chats will pop off and way-too-early predictions will be made.

We already know a select few national TV matchups that the league has teased out — the Philadelphia Eagles, defending Super Bowl champions, will open the season against historic rivals in the Dallas Cowboys. Philly is also set to play the Chicago Bears on 'Black Friday.' Here's everything that's been confirmed ahead of Wednesday's complete announcement:
Every NFL team plays 17 regular-season games and takes one bye week for rest. Here's a reminder on how these schedules are formed, using the reigning Lombardi Trophy holders as an example.
As always, there are six divisional games — two meetings with each rival, one at home and one on the road. The Eagles have annual home-and-away sets with the Giants, Cowboys and Commanders.
Then we add four total games against teams from an in-conference division — two at home and two on the road. Philadelphia, along with its NFC East peers, has drawn the NFC North this year. Hello, Vikings and Packers and Lions and Bears (oh my).
Next, another four games versus an out-of-conference division — two at home and two on the road. The members of the NFC East face the AFC West squads this year. Woah, that means a Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs, plus matchups with the Raiders, Broncos and Chargers.
Then we tack on two games against teams from the remaining divisions in-conference — one game at home and one on the road. Matchups are determined by 2024 standings. The Eagles play the entire NFC East and North field this season, so the remainders here are the NFC West and South. Because the Eagles finished in first place, they'll take on fellow division winners in the Rams and the Buccaneers.
The 17th game is a non-conference opponent outside of the scheduled division. NFC teams hosted this 17th game in 2024, so the AFC teams host it this year. Matchups are determined by 2024 standings. The Eagles are in the NFC, of course, and their corresponding non-conference division for 2025 is the AFC West. So, they could've drawn first-place teams from the AFC North, South or East. It's the East in this latest rotation, so Eagles-Bills.

Texas routs Texas Tech to secure first Women's College World Series title in program history

The Texas Longhorns won the Women's College World Series in dominant fashion, blowing out Texas Tech 10-4 in Friday's winner-take-all Game 3 to clinch the program's first-ever national championship in softball. Despite Red Raiders superstar pitcher NiJaree Canady returning to the pitcher's mound after her complete-game win on Thursday, the Longhorns did not back down from the challenge to face one of softball's best players. Texas lit up the junior righthander, scoring five runs in the first inning, knocking the 21-year-old, two-time first team All-American out of the game early. A dejected Canady, who made national headlines earlier on Friday, after signing a second $1 million-plus NIL deal to keep her in Lubbock, Texas, for her senior year, according to the Associated Press, allowed the most runs in an inning in her illustrious career that started at Stanford. After left fielder Katie Stewart added another Texas run to extend the lead to 6-0 in the third inning, it was third baseman Mia Scott who made the biggest name for herself. In the fourth inning, the senior mashed a grand slam to break the game open with a 10-0 lead. Scott garnered the respect of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback and Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes, who was at Devon Park in Oklahoma City watching his alma mater along with his wife, Brittany. 3rd baseman for Texas is cold.. Like Mahomes has done many times in his career, the Red Raiders put forth a valid effort to get back into the game. Tech scored three runs in the fifth inning while adding another in the seventh inning, but it proved to be too little, too late after Longhorns starting pitcher Teagan Kavan got Lauren Allred to ground out to seal the victory. Texas players rushed the mound to embrace Kavan, who threw a masterful complete game, striking out three and allowing eight hits. The sophomore said being able to get the final out for the team 'meant the world.' 'I'm so happy for this team,' Kavan told the ESPN broadcast. 'We did it. First Natty. Let's go! My grandma, the last thing she told my brother – one of the last things was to bring home a victory and we did that for her.' Texas head coach Mike White said that it was 'surreal' to finally be lifting the trophy after coming to the school ahead of the 2019 season. 'I can't believe its happened. … For us to come out on top tonight – we're so close to being knocked out. I am speechless to tell you the truth. It doesn't happen very often. But I am so proud of our ladies.' Texas had lost to Oklahoma in the championship series two of the last three years. The Sooners, who were looking to win their fifth straight title, were defeated by the Longhorns earlier in the tournament. White added that 'in order to be the best, you got to beat the best' while calling Canady 'tough and special.'

Robert drives in 3 runs as the White Sox beat the Royals 7-2

Luis Robert Jr. drove in three runs in his return to the lineup, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 7-2 on Friday night. Mike Tauchman homered to help the last-place White Sox to their third win in four games. Davis Martin struck out seven while pitching six innings of two-run ball. White Sox catcher Kyle Teel, one of baseball's top prospects, went 1 for 2 with two walks and scored a run in his major league debut. Robert hit a tiebreaking two-run single in Chicago's five-run eighth inning. He also had a run-scoring single in the second. It was Robert's first game since Monday. The slumping slugger has been working on some adjustments at the plate, and he got an extra day after he was struck on his head by a ball in the batting cage. The White Sox beat the Royals for the second time in the last 20 matchups. Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino hit back-to-back homers for Kansas City with two out in the third inning. It was the seventh of the season for Garcia, and No. 9 for Pasquantino. Tauchman tied it at 2 when he connected against Seth Lugo in the fifth. The White Sox loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, and Robert drove in pinch-runner Michael A. Taylor and Austin Slater with a bloop single to right against Jonathan Bowlan (1-1). Teel scored on Taylor Clarke's wild pitch, and errors on third baseman Garcia and Clarke brought home two more runs. Jordan Leasure (1-4) pitched an inning for the win. Royals rookie Jac Caglianone went 0 for 4. He is 1 for 17 in his first four games. Leasure walked Jonathan India and Bobby Witt Jr. singled as Kansas City put the first two on in the eighth. Teel pounced on a bunt by Garcia and got the first out at third. Witt took third on a fielder's choice before Salvador Perez fouled out, ending the inning. The Royals swept a four-game home series with the White Sox from May 5-8 and outscored them 19-4. Chicago leads the all-time series 440-434. Royals right-hander Michael Wacha (3-4, 2.88 ERA) starts Saturday against White Sox right-hander Adrian Houser (1-1, 1.47 ERA).
