Social media sensation Moo Deng turns one
Moo Deng, the pygmy hippo turned social media star, has celebrated her first birthday, with thousands turning out to celebrate with her.
The Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Bangkok was overrun with fans on the first day of four days of activities marking the occasion.
And what would a birthday party be without a singsong and a slice of cake?

Fans travelled from far and wide to celebrate with Moo Deng, including Jennifer Tang from Malaysia.
'She makes me happy. Whenever I'm stressed at work, I pull up photos of Moo Deng,' Tang said. 'So my whole office knows that I'm here… They let me take a week off.'
The zoo held an online auction to celebrate the special occasion with photographs, footprints, and even a food container all up for grabs.

When the world met Moo Deng
Moo Deng soared to social media stardom shortly after she was born when zoo keeper Atthapon Nundee shared pictures and videos of the baby hippo online.
Nundee continues to keep fans updated with happy hippo moments to this day.
Followers of Moo Deng even got to help choose the celebrity hippo's name via a social media poll last year.
Moo Deng means 'bouncy pork' in Thai, with her name matching her other siblings: Moo Toon (stewed pork) and Moo Waan (sweet pork).

The Khao Kheow Open Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals and saw a spike in visitors when Moo Deng first rose to fame.
But since the height of her celebrity stardom, the number of people visiting the park has fallen by almost half.
'Moo Deng is a representative of all wild animals, and she helps everyone understand the roles of zoos,' Narongwit told The Associated Press.
'She speaks for all nearly extinct animals, and turns people's attention to their conservation.'
The zoo also runs breeder programs for many endangered species, including the pygmy hippopotamus.
The species is native to West Africa, where it is threatened by poaching and loss of habitat. There are only 2,000 to 3,000 left in the wild.

Thousands of artists descend on capital as Edinburgh Fringe gets under way
The 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe begins on Friday, bringing thousands of performances and international artists to Scotland's capital. Running until Monday, August 25, this year's programme features 54,474 performances from 3,853 shows, with 3,352 of those included in the printed guide. Since the programme launch on June 3, an additional 501 shows have registered and are now available to browse on and via the official Fringe app. Artists from 63 countries are set to appear at venues across the city, including 1,118 shows from Scotland and 829 from Edinburgh itself. Justin Timberlake says he's been diagnosed with Lyme disease
Timberlake shared the news in a post commemorating his Forget Tomorrow tour, which wrapped in Turkey on Wednesday, adding that the disease 'can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically'. The SexyBack singer, who described himself as a private person, wrote that he considered ending the tour when he was diagnosed, but wrote that he 'decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going'. Lyme disease is transmitted by Ixodes ticks, also known as deer ticks. It can cause flu-like conditions, neurological problems, joint pain and other symptoms. In the vast majority of cases, Lyme disease is successfully treated with antibiotics. 'I honestly don't know what my future is onstage, but I'll always cherish this run! And all of them before! It's been the stuff of legend for me,' Timberlake wrote. Timberlake cancelled and postponed multiple shows throughout the tour's run, citing health issues including bronchitis and laryngitis. Six of his US shows were postponed from October and November to February, the singer announced on Instagram. Timberlake ultimately cancelled the final show of the American leg of the tour in Ohio due to the flu in February. Timberlake pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in New York's Hamptons in 2024.
