Team Hong Kong surged to a silver medal in the mixed relay event on the final day of the China National Triathlon Championships in Xuzhou on Sunday.
The quartet of Cade Wright, Wong Tsz-to, Bailee Brown and Robin Elg delivered a determined performance, finishing second only to the Shandong team.
Wright kicked off the race at a fierce pace. After a 300m swim, a 6.77km bike race and a 2km run, she was locked in the lead with the Shandong team.
Wong then took over and kept Hong Kong in front before a sudden thunderstorm forced a temporary suspension of the race.
When competition resumed, Brown resumed the race with a valiant effort but fell back to third position.
Robin Elg then finished off the race with impressive times in both the swimming and cycling races to power past the Sichuan team to clinch silver for Hong Kong.
Outside of the elite category, Hong Kong's U15 teams claimed gold and silver in the mixed relay team event, with the team of Cydnee Chung, Edison Wong, Ng Yuet-hei and Ian Chung finishing first.
This capped a highly successful campaign for team Hong Kong, who bring home an impressive total of three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

British, Japanese rivals key to Hong Kong triathlete's National Games quest
Asian under-23 triathlon champion Robin Elg has said training alongside British and Japanese rivals will help him reach his potential at China's National Games in November. Elg has overcome numerous health issues, including a worrying heart problem that was detected in 2022, to become Hong Kong's brightest young prospect. And ahead of a season-defining three months, he has set up an 'insanely good' base at altitude in Font-Romeu, alongside rivals from Great Britain including 2024 Olympic medallist Sam Dickinson, and Japan's Kenji Nener. Fellow Hongkonger Oscar Coggins joined them. 'Our last run session was the best I've had for years, because we don't have that level of competition in Hong Kong,' Elg said. 'Training at home can create tensions, because we're competing with each other. 'Being in an environment with phenomenal athletes pushes you to your best level. It's my first time training with people who are better than me and I'm going to learn a lot from these guys.' Elg in action during a 2024 Asia Triathlon Cup race in Kazakhstan. Hong Kong triathletes set for National Games rehearsal in Chinese championships
Hong Kong's triathletes have been told to prepare for a stern test of their National Games medal credentials when they face the cream of the mainland crop in this weekend's China National Championships. Advertisement Andrew Wright, the city's head coach, said he expected 'all the top Chinese' to be in a crowded field in Xuzhou. And he warned his athletes that their rivals would be more fired up than they were for a Games test event in Hong Kong in March, when the city's contenders trailed in the wake of their winning counterparts from Shandong province. 'This will be a much closer reflection of how the National Games will look,' Wright said. 'For the provinces, it's not as important as the Games, but there's a lot of pride involved. 'Most of the mainland athletes used the test event to see the course. They all tried in the relay, but it looked to me like a lot of them weren't trying in the individual races.'
