Summer skiing?
Not quite, but with unusually warm spring temperatures, it might seem that way for those still trying to get a few more laps in before stowing that snowboard or those skis for the summer.
Only one Colorado ski resort — Arapahoe Basin — will remain open beyond May 18, the final day of operations this year for Winter Park on the Mary Jane side of its resort.
A-Basin is hosting its annual 'Gay Basin Pride Weekend' to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community May 17-18 and plans to remain open well past that, likely into mid-June, spokesperson Shayna Silverman told the Coloradoan via email.
'We will ski and ride as Mother Nature allows,' Silverman said, noting that the resort remained open through June 16 in 2024.
Operating hours for Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Discounted daily lift tickets are available at both Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park, with additional discounts for online sales.

Trees on homes, storm damage in West Mobile

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — As storms moved along the Gulf Coast Thursday morning, damage was left behind across the area including in West Mobile, which made for a noisy start to the day. Fairhope and Daphne hit by 80 mph winds as surprise storm downs trees across Baldwin County 'Debris [was] flying everywhere,' Gregory Kilpatrickk with A&F Tree Service said. 'You [could] hear the wind hollering. It was loud.' One homeowner called News 5 to report damage at his house, just off Cody Road. When we arrived, we found an old oak tree completely uprooted and toppled on top of his home. Robert Battles tells us he and his wife were in bed when it fell. 'I heard like a choo-choo train coming through there, then I heard something hit,' Battles said. 'I really didn't know it was that much damage until I got up to go to the grocery store.' More damage could be seen across the street, where a large limb barely missed a neighbor's home, falling into the front yard. Just a few minutes away in the Princeton Woods neighborhood, another tree crashed on top of a home. News 5 spoke with one woman who was passing by the moment it happened. 'My alert went off on my phone; I leaned over to turn my phone off, heard a noise, looked up and [saw] the trees coming down,' Debra Walcott said. 'It landed on a house, and the trees on the sidewalk, they were just falling.' No injuries were reported from either home where the trees fell. Rocky Mountain National Park's Trail Ridge Road not expected to open by Memorial Day

Rocky Mountain National Park's Trail Ridge Road is not expected to be open for Memorial Day weekend for a second straight year, the park announced. The park did not announce when it expects to open the highest continuously paved road in North America, reaching 12,183 feet. The park stated in a May 22 news release that snowplow operators have encountered setbacks from the progress they had made in opening the popular highway that winds through the heart of the park. The park said wind in the last week has caused low visibility, drifting snow over plowed areas, and there is a thick ice layer beneath drifted snow. Areas above 10,000 feet in the park are forecast to get snow and have overnight freezing temperatures over the weekend, according to the news release. May snowstorms prevented the park from opening Trail Ridge Road for for Memorial Day weekend last year (May 25-27) before snowplows were finally able to open the road May 31. The road closed for the winter Oct. 25. Other years the park didn't get Trail Ridge Road open by Memorial Day were 2019-2022, 2015, 2011 and 2010, the park previously reported. Fall River Road is closed and usually opens around July 4. For Trail Ridge Road condition updates, call 970-586-1222 or visit the Rocky Mountain National Park website. Timed-entry permits are required to enter the park as of May 23 and ending in mid-October. This is the sixth year the system is being used to spread out visitation to the park during peak hours. On May 21, it fully reopened the Fall River Entrance Station. Both sites have undergone major renovations.
