Top 7 sales boss Henry Tajer exits after just six months in job
Seven is searching for a new head of sales following the exit of its chief commercial officer Henry Tajer after six months in the role.
Mr Tajer was appointed to Seven's most senior sales role in January following a radical restructure of Seven's corporate structure last year leading to the departure of seasoned Seven executives including advertising chief Kurt Burnette in June 2024.
On Monday Seven confirmed Mr Tajer will transition from his full-time role into a consulting arrangement from the end of the month.
Seven West Media managing director and CEO Jeff Howard praised Mr Tajer in Monday's announcement saying: 'Henry brought a new level of bold and innovative thinking to Seven's sales team. He drove significant change in his short time at Seven and on behalf of the entire team, I would like to thank him for his contribution. I look forward to continuing to work with Henry on opportunities to drive growth for SWM.'
Mr Tajer initially joined Seven as a consultant in August 2024 before becoming Seven's full-time CCO in January 2025, a role that saw him put on a lucrative contract at Seven.
His predecessor Mr Burnette had been on $1.25 million a year at the time of his departure.
Mr Tajer said of his departure from Seven that it would allow him to transition back to consulting work while allowing him to focus on the 'many exciting opportunities still ahead for Seven' as a consultant.
The Seven sales team will be jointly led by Mr Tajer's former direct reports, Katie Finney, Seven's national TV sales director and national digital sales director Jordan King while a search is conducted for Mr Tajer's replacement.
In May news.com.au reported Mr Tajer's appointment at Seven had been the result of a decade of lobbying for a top sales job in Australian television.
Sources claimed he ultimately won over Seven chairman Kerry Stokes and son Ryan Stokes, non-executive director of Seven's board, leading to his appointment in January.
Mr Tajer's aggressive and at times unconventional style has drawn critics internally and externally in recent years.
He arrived at Seven following a string of short-lived roles.
Prior to consulting for Seven he was CEO of The Influence Group for a year until June 2023.
His previous role at marketing company Dentsu Aegis also lasted one year and saw Mr Tajer ruffle feathers.
He also made headlines in adland in 2017 after exiting his role as Global CEO of IPG Mediabrands – a role he relocated his family from Australia to New York two years earlier in 2015 to fill.
Mr Tajer's departure follows the recent exit of Seven's 'rookie' news boss Anthony De Ceglie after a controversial year at the broadcaster.

Australia Post debuts 'next generation' post offices as parcel deliveries boom
Australia Post will be ramping up its parcel collection process by introducing a post office entirely dedicated to parcels as online shopping continues to boom. Australia Post Parcels is a focused post office that allows customers to collect their deliveries, return and send parcels at any time. The service, which is opening in Fitzroy in Melbourne and Waterloo in Sydney, aims to streamline parcel collection, as well as sending and returning deliveries, with the help of 24/7 self-service desks and parcel lockers, which can be accessed with a one-time entry code via the Australia Post app. Those wishing to send or return parcels can access a vending machine stocked with packaging, stamps and other postage-related essentials, which are accessible 24/7. There will also be six to eight Australia Post employees on-site to assist customers at the post office, with trading hours extended to support growing customer demands. Australia Post executive general manager of retail, brand and marketing, Josh Bannister, said the new services would be a game-changer for Australians as parcel collection frequency increases. 'The number one reason why a customer visits a post office is to collect a parcel, so it's logical that we're making (Australia Post Parcels),' he told NewsWire. 'We're continuing to see the growth in parcel volumes, and this is really about moving with the customer and changing customer expectations to focus on a more seamless parcel experience.' He said more Australians are choosing to shop online than ever before, accelerating the need for easier parcel collection. '(Australia Post Parcel is) designed around how people use the postal network today, especially in response to the e-commerce boom,' he said. The dedicated post offices will feature a wall of parcel lockers, which are free to use and accessible 24/7. 'We're also looking at extending trading hours for assisted lodgements, and the lodgement of a parcel will be exactly the same as our customers are used to at our full-service post offices,' Mr Bannister said. Online shopping rates are continuing to grow across the country, with a record number of households shopping online every year. Australia Post research found 9.8m households turned to e-commerce in 2024 – a 2.3 per cent increase from last year. The majority of online shoppers are Millennials and Gen Z, who made up three-quarters of the demographic. 'With Aussies shopping more online than ever before, we're evolving our network to keep pace with how our customers are using postal services,' Mr Bannister said. As part of the trial, Australia Post has opened two Australia Post Parcels services available for customers in Victoria and NSW, one in Fitzroy and Waterloo. However, there are plans to open further dedicated parcel centres in Chadstone in Melbourne, St Leonard's in Sydney and in the Gold Coast. There are currently no plans to open Australia Post Parcels in regional areas, instead focusing on the metro regions of the country. 'We'll be monitoring how the trial locations perform and how and when customers use them and that will help us refine leanings,' Mr Bannister said. 'What we're really doing here is we've got a focused parcel experience to make it easier and more seamless for customers collect, send and return their parcels.'

Tabcorp fined $4 million for spamming customers with thousands of unlawful marketing messages
Australia's largest betting company Tabcorp has been fined more than $4 million for breaches of spam laws. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which governs spam laws, found that Tabcorp sent more than 5,700 unlawful marketing messages to customers of its VIP program. The VIP program is where eligible customers receive personalised and direct communications regarding Tabcorp services from Tabcorp personnel or an agent. Almost 3,000 SMS and WhatsApp messages were sent between February 1 and May 1 of 2024, without providing an option to unsubscribe from the messages, while 3,148 SMS and WhatsApp messages did not contain adequate sender information across the same period. Eleven SMS messages were sent without consent between February 15 and April 29, 2024. Under the Spam Act 2003, businesses must have consent before sending marketing messages. Messages sent with consent must also contain a working unsubscribe option and information about the sender. The ACMA said gambling marketing materials often involve personalised messages offering incentives, such as bonus bets, deposit matching, rebates and offers of tickets to sporting and other events. ACMA authority member Samantha Yorke said the breaches were deeply concerning as they involved non-compliance by a large and established gambling provider that targeted VIP program customers. "The gambling industry needs to understand that spam laws apply to all direct marketing — whether it's generic campaigns or personalised messages. "It is utterly unacceptable that Tabcorp did not have adequate spam compliance systems in place." VIPs aren't necessarily high-rollers, they can be anyone, including those who are not well off or experience significant losses. The $4,003,270 penalty against Tabcorp is one of the highest of its kind by the ACMA. The ABC understands that the fine has been paid and the penalty and legal costs will be recognised in this year's Tabcorp financial statements. Over the last 18 months, businesses have been penalised more than $16.9 million by the ACMA for spam breaches. The ABC understands a leadership change was triggered at Tabcorp following the ACMA investigation. "Under its new leadership team, Tabcorp is remediating and significantly improving our processes, systems and overall compliance pursuant to an enforceable undertaking" a spokesperson said in a statement. Tabcorp acknowledged the findings of the ACMA investigation and entered into a 3-year court-enforceable undertaking, which includes an independent review of its direct marketing systems, making improvements, running quarterly audits of its VIP direct marketing, training staff and reporting to the ACMA regularly. The ACMA said it would be watching closely to ensure Tabcorp meets its commitments and complies with the spam laws in future. Last year, the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission fined Tabcorp $4.6 million after the company failed to adequately train staff in responsible gambling and sent direct marketing materials to a customer who had opted out.

World leaders arrive in Canada for the G7 summit

As world leaders descend on Calgary, Canada, for the G7 summit, Israel's war with Iran will likely top the agenda. Donald Trump departed the U-S on Sunday - holding true to a message that's becoming familiar. "Well I hope there's gonna be a deal. Sometimes they have to fight it out, but we're gonna see what happens." The US President has travelled north to a country he's repeatedly said he wants to make part of the United States. His counterpart in the host nation, Canadian P-M Mark Carney, was helped to power by his defiant stance against US tariffs, and he's been looking to strengthen alliances in uncertain times. He welcomed Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese upon his arrival in Canada. "Welcome, and thank you for coming for the G7. Canada and Australia, of course, great partners that share the same values, share many of the same interests." Anthony Albanese says they discussed defence, critical minerals, and collaborating to combat bushfires, as well as conflict in the Middle East. "We did discuss Israel and Iran. And both of us share a view, wanting to see a de-escalation of conflict, wanting to prioritise and diplomacy. I have expressed before our concern about Iran gaining the capacity of nuclear weapons as something that is a threat to security in the region." It was one of many meetings scheduled for the coming days, as Mr Albanese makes the most of his chance to advance Australia's interest on the world stage. The G7 consists of major economies, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the U-S, but features several guest nations this year. Anthony Albanese's biggest test will come on Tuesday - Canadian time - when he sits down with Donald Trump for their first face-to-face meeting. "I look forward to the discussions with President Trump, I deal with people constructively, respectfully and I advance Australia's national interest, and that is what I'll continue to do." Mr Albanese has had no shortage of advice about how to deal with the president. His advisors include former prime ministers with firsthand experience, who maintain the only successful approach is to stand up to the president's hardball negotiations. US tariffs have been a key issue leading into the talks. "Now our position when it comes to tariffs is very clear. We see tariffs as acts of economic self harm by the country imposing the tariffs, because what it does is lead to increased costs for the country that is making those decisions." Ahead of the G7 summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says she is hoping to find a solution to U-S trade tensions before a pause on tariffs expires next month. "We are also working on lowering the trade barriers. This was the reason why we offered 'zero-for-zero', so zero tariffs for all industrial goods on both sides. This should be over time the goal. But we are amidst the negotiations right now." There are fears the AUKUS defence pact could be up for some re-negotiation as well, after it was placed under review by the Trump administration. Mr Albanese is under pressure to re-state Australia's case for the acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines, starting from 2032. "On AUKUS, it is very much in the interests of all three countries. What AUKUS offers the US is firstly the support that we're providing for their industrial capacity." Australia has already invested $800 million to support submarine building in the U-S, as production lags far behind key American targets. "And secondly, the increased capacity to have their subs in the water as well, because of the maintenance facilities that will take place at Henderson. In addition to that, there's all of the support that we give to the United States, and with our defence relationships, including fuel reserves in the Northern Territory; including the presence of US forces in in Darwin, as well." SBS News also asked Anthony Albanese whether he will raise the impact of Israel's conflict with Iran on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza when he speaks with Donald Trump. ANNA: "While these strikes are unfolding, there is no more aid getting into Gaza. So when you meet with the US President Donald trump will you be calling on him to apply pressure to the prime minister of Israel to allow aid through?" ALBANESE: "The discussion with President trump will be very much about Australia and the United States and our relations. We've got a few things to talk about."
