Pluto Finance backs 56 new homes in west Wales with £8.9m loan package

ESG-aligned funding will support low-carbon developments in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire
PLUTO FINANCE has completed its first two residential development loans in Wales, totalling £8.9 million, from the Welsh Pension Partnership (WPP) investment sleeve. The funding will support the construction of 56 energy-efficient homes in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, delivered by Obsidian Homes.
The two schemes will provide a mix of open-market and affordable housing targeted at local people and key workers, including those in healthcare, education, and emergency services.
The first loan, for £4.35 million, supports Phase One of a 37-home scheme in Llanarth, Ceredigion, close to a popular holiday destination. The phase includes 16 open-market homes and five affordable properties, which will be sold at 70% of market value. A second phase—comprising 14 more open-market units and two affordable homes—will follow once sales progress.
The second loan, for £4.57 million, funds a new development in Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire. This project will deliver 15 open-market houses and four affordable apartments. The affordable units will be acquired directly by the local authority. Construction is already underway, with Pluto stepping in to complete the lending package within two weeks of credit approval.
Both councils have shown strong support for the developments, which prioritise affordability, sustainable construction, and homes for local families. Designed to high environmental standards, the homes feature timber-frame construction, photovoltaic panels, and low-carbon heating systems. All units are expected to achieve an EPC A rating, and developers estimate lifetime carbon savings of up to 92%.

UKHospitality has announced that current CEO, Kate Nicholls OBE, is to step up to the new role of Chair, while current Deputy CEO, Allen Simpson, will transition to CEO. At the same time, current non-executive chairman, Steve Cassidy, will move to become President. The organisation said the move will enable Kate Nicholls and Allen Simpson to deliver a new, bolder strategy as it looks to turbocharge further growth and deliver even more for members and the wider sector. The new structure follows an 'extraordinary' period of growth since the organisation was formed. The details of the enhanced strategy will be announced in the coming months. UKHospitality said it will build on its achievements to date and will continue to deliver policy change, while growing the organisation's operational capacity in areas such as skills, as demonstrated by the recent launch of the Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPS) scheme, working with the UK Government to train new starters in the sector, in 26 regions. Kate Nicholls will be the organisation's first paid and full-time Chair. She will build on her work as a leading advocate and ambassador for the sector. The organisation said this 'natural' next step reflects the increased size and scope of the organisation and her position as a champion of the sector and its leading voice with successive governments. The changes will allow her to devote even more time to championing the sector in both the political and media landscapes, and deepen Government engagement and understanding of the sector and its challenges. The day-to-day leadership of UKHospitality will pass to Allen Simpson in his new role as CEO. He brings a wealth of experience across tourism and leisure and expertise in global investment and economic policy, UKHospitality said. The move follows 18 months as Deputy CEO, in which time he has led on ESG and conceived and delivered the Social Productivity Index to highlight the sector's worth to people and communities across the UK. Steve Cassidy, President of UKHospitality, said: 'UKHospitality has grown incredibly over the last few years in terms of membership, influence and impact. Having both a dedicated, full-time Chair and a CEO in place, UKHospitality can become even bigger and better, and go further, faster. SEC wins dismissal of lawsuit challenging tighter rules on shareholder proposals

June 5 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit challenging U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rule changes that made it harder for shareholders to file proposals at companies' annual meetings, including for reforms on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton in Washington, D.C. rejected arguments that the SEC arbitrarily and capriciously adopted the changes, including on the alleged pretext it supported corporate opposition to reforms on contentious issues such as climate change and workplace diversity. The SEC was required to determine whether the changes would "promote efficiency, competition, and capital formation, and it did so," Walton wrote in a 64-page decision. Adopted in November 2020, late in Republican President Donald Trump's first White House term, the SEC rule changes increased how much stock shareholders had to own, and how long they had to own it, before submitting proposals. The changes also added requirements for resubmitting proposals that shareholders had rejected in the last three years. Plaintiffs in the June 2021 lawsuit included the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, which represents more than 300 faith-based institutional investors, shareholder advocacy group As You Sow and shareholder advocate James McRitchie. They said the SEC, before adopting the rule changes, failed to quantify the benefits of ESG and other shareholder proposals, or address the expected loss of "billions of dollars in long-term shareholder value" by adding restrictions. In a joint statement following Walton's decision, the plaintiffs said the changes "only serve to hurt shareholders and companies alike. Despite this decision, shareholders will continue to engage with corporations on their environmental and social impacts." The SEC declined to comment. In seeking the lawsuit's dismissal, the SEC said the rule changes would help ensure that proposals reflect the interests of all shareholders, and that resubmitted proposals could receive levels of support "likely to lead to company action." SEC commissioners voted 3-2 along party lines for the changes, with Republican appointees in the majority. The regulator defended the changes during Democratic President Joe Biden's administration. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supported the SEC's position. The case is Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility et al v SEC, U.S. District Court, District of Columbia, No. 21-01620.
