Maguiresbridge: Prayer service to be held in County Clare for mother and children
The shooting happened in a rural area about 75 miles (121km) west of Belfast and about eight miles from the county's largest town, Enniskillen.Two of the victims were declared dead at the scene on Wednesday morning and a third died later in hospital.A man - who is a member of the same household - is being treated for serious gunshot injuries at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.Police said no arrests had been made and it was not anticipated that any would be made.They added that the investigation was at an early stage, but a suspected triple murder and attempted suicide was one line of inquiry for detectives.On Saturday, police issued an appeal in relation to the movements of a silver Mercedes between Maguiresbridge and Newtownbutler on the day before the shootings.
'Hard-working colleague and devoted mum'
Ms Whyte was an experienced veterinary surgeon, at the time of her death she was employed by Stormont's Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (Daera).But before taking that role, the mother-of-two spent about eight years working at Lakeland Vets in Derrygonnelly, County Fermanagh.an "enthusiastic, hard-working colleague" and a "devoted mum" to Sara and James. Enniskillen Royal Grammar also opened its doors on Friday for staff and pupils to meet and write in a book of memories about James and Sara.Principal Elizabeth Armstrong said the school had been left "stunned and shocked at the loss of two wonderful young people"."They were just full of life, they were both such lively and intelligent, funny young people," she said.
'Long association' with club
In a social media post, St. Joseph's Doora-Barefield GAA Club said they were "shocked" and "saddened" to hear of the tragic passing of Vanessa and her two children.It said the Whyte family had a "long association" with the club and Ms Whyte herself had been a "very accomplished camogie player".

Michelle Guest knew something was seriously wrong when she heard sirens and saw a helicopter flying over her hometown of Welshpool, in her worst nightmares did she expect the emergency crews to be searching for her 15-year-old daughter, Holli receiving a phone call from a friend, Michelle ran across town to the River Severn and stood by the weir, praying that Holli had been carried downstream and was safely on the river bank, waiting to be a few hours later Holli was found 65ft (20m) from where she had entered the water. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, Shropshire. Holli's family and friends should have celebrated her 16th birthday in June, but instead they are having to gather on 9 August to mark the first anniversary of her death. "Nearly 12 months later and I still can't get my head around it," said Michelle, a mother of seven."I wish she'd never gone down there and I wish somebody would wake me up from this nightmare, but it's not going to happen."She was always happy and very much loved by her friends."Michelle said she had had conversations with Holli about water safety in the past and asked her the day before her death to play safely by the river.A full inquest is yet to be heard, but Michelle said Holli died after getting caught in the backwash of a weir. A friend tried to help her out but could not manage against the force of the water, she said."I don't want any other family to go through what we're going through based on poor choices, just because the water looks inviting."Michelle is now trying to raise awareness about water safety by sharing her own experience on social media and organising fundraising events for charities that educate children about the dangers. Holli's death was one of 193 accidental water-related fatalities in the UK last year, according to the National Water Safety figures suggest that inland waterways, such as rivers, canals and reservoirs, continue to be the leading locations for drownings, accounting for 61% of accidental fatalities in 2024.A dedicated water safety and drowning prevention strategy was brought in by the Welsh government in Safety Wales, a group which brings together organisations including the Welsh government, also aims to cut the number of drowning casualties by promoting "a consistent and common approach to water safety".Its figures show there were 54 water-related fatalities in Wales in 2024, with the figure remaining between 48 and 55 between 2020 and 2023."I plead with all parents to speak with their children so they understand the dangers of water," said Michelle. "It can take a life. It took my Holli and I really don't want another family to suffer."

Men seen on riverbank on night victim found ‘murdered' on canal bench urged to come forward as hunt for killer ramps up
DETECTIVES investigating the death of a man f ound on a canal bench are urging two men to come forward. Robert Brown, 57, was last seen visiting a supermarket in Northampton town centre on July 31 before he was found dead near the River Nene. 5 5 5 Northamptonshire Police launched a murder investigation after being called to the scene shortly after 6.30am on the morning of August 1. They were called to a canal footpath behind Auctioneers Court after reports that a man had been found on a bench fatally injured. The circumstances that led to Brown's death remain unknown but a post-mortem examination took place on Saturday at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester which found Brown sustained a wound to his arm. Now, police have asked two men who may be witnesses to what happened to come forward. The force said in an appeal: "Detectives investigating the death of a man found near the River Nene in Northampton town centre are urging two males who may be potential witnesses to come forward. "They were in the Beckets Bridge and Park area about 4am on Friday, August 1." Detective Chief Inspector Jen Lovatt from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit said: 'From our inquiries, we have established that at around 4am on Friday morning, two males – we can't be sure of their ages at this stage – were walking along the riverbank in the area near to where Robert was found. 'If you were in the area of Beckets Bridge and Beckets Park in the early hours of Friday, we would really like to speak with you. "You may not realise it, but it's possible you saw or heard something that would help us with the investigation. 'If you believe this may have been you or you know who it was, I urge you to contact police as soon as possible by calling 101 or via our online portal at No arrests have yet been made and Brown's family are being supported by specialist officers. The River Nene remains closed to pedestrians and river traffic between London Road bridge and Nunn Mills Road bridge. They said the river will likely remain closed until Tuesday evening while searches take place. There is an increased police presence in the area as part of an effort to reassure those living in the neighbourhood. Northamptonshire Police have also appealed to those living in nearby apartments overlooking the River Nene. Those with any information or video footage have been urged to get in contact with the police. Detective Chief Inspector Jen Lovatt from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit said: 'This is an exceptionally sad incident and our thoughts and sincere condolences remain with Robert's family, who continue to be supported by specially trained officers. 'His death has understandably also had a big impact on the neighbourhood and wider community, and we would like to thank them for their support while officers continue to carry out searches at the scene, as well as those who have helped with our investigation. 'A dedicated team of officers is working around the clock to establish exactly what happened to Robert. "A forensic post mortem examination carried out yesterday, Saturday, August 2, found that Robert sustained a wound to his arm. "However, the exact cause of death is unascertained at this stage." 5 5
