Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that normalcy has returned and tourism is thriving in Jammu and Kashmir."Visit Pahalgam today, where a tragic incident occurred recently and you will find it crowded with people," he said in a statement issued by the Personnel Ministry.Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, cited the integration of northeast and Jammu and Kashmir into India's mainstream development."For decades, these regions waited for railways - but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, trains now run in valleys that were once isolated," he said.The minister recounted the first-time commissioning of Jammu station in 1972 and the long gap in progress until Prime Minister Modi fulfilled this dream over half a century later, flagging off Vande Bharat train recently.On the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh assured that normalcy has returned and tourism is thriving.Highlighting the government's achievements in the last 11 years under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the minister said that each passing year has marked a new milestone - be it in infrastructure, governance, technology or youth empowerment - creating unprecedented opportunities for every Indian.Referring to the prime minister's historic 2016 call of "Start-Up India, Stand-Up India", Singh emphasised how it broadened the employment horizon beyond traditional government jobs."It was only then people realised that job doesn't only mean 'sarkari naukri' (government job), but also innovation, enterprise and startups," he said.Mentioning about the young crew members from Manipur, who lost their lives in the tragic Ahmedabad air crash, the minister said it shows "how far the region has come from isolation to being part of the international aviation and hospitality industry ".Singh reaffirmed India's leadership in the fields of space and biotechnology, highlighting the nation's growing global stature in science and innovation.He said that India's astronaut, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, will serve as the Mission Pilot on the Axiom-4 mission, where he will conduct cutting-edge space biology experiments using indigenously developed biotech kits by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT).Singh said India is steadily progressing towards establishing its own ' Bharat Antariksh Station ' by 2035, marking a significant milestone in the country's space ambitions.Highlighting the Modi government's clean record, the minister said that not a single charge of corruption has surfaced against any member of the Union Council of ministers in the last 11 years."Compare that to the previous regime, where scams were the norm," he added.

CPI (Maoist) NR bureau terror revival case: NIA nabs one more accused from Delhi
NEW DELHI: The anti-terror federal probe agency NIA has arrested another key accused, identified as Vishal Singh, in connection with its probe into the CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB) terror revival conspiracy, officials said on Sunday. Following the arrest, the agency conducted a search at his residence in West Delhi and seized devices including hard drives, pen drives, mobile phones, and other incriminating material, they said. Singh, originally from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, has been found to be a member of the CPI (Maoist), the officials said, alleging that he had delivered a drone to leaders of the banned outfit in the Chhakarbanda/Panchrukhiya forest area of Bihar to further its violent anti-national activities. 'He had imparted technical training to other cadres of the CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members in the deep forest areas of Bihar in 2019,' a senior NIA official said.

Trump called out Iran and said that there will either be peace or tragedy for the Middle Eastern country, as the Western nation disclosed its preparedness to take out more targets in Iran. 'There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days,' Trump told reporters at a late-night media address on Saturday, 21 June 2025. Trump's move to carry out airstrikes in Iran has automatically involved the Western nation in the raging conflict in the Middle East. 'All planes are now outside of Iran's space. A full payload of bombs was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home,' he said in a social media post. As the tensions and uncertainties escalate in the global economy, investors around the world are afraid of Iran's retaliatory move against Israel and the US. The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important global trade passage for crude oil imports and exports out of the Middle East. It connects the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea with the Persian Gulf. According to earlier reports, this area witnesses nearly a quarter of the world's oil trade, making it a very sensitive region near a volatile conflict area of Iran. Concerns of investors and commodity traders around the world are rising as people expect Iran to block the region and potentially create disruptions in the shipping passage. Even though there has been no advancement from Iran's side on its threats to block the international maritime passageway, this sentiment of uncertainty is driving up the oil prices. JP Morgan, in an industry report, mentioned how the oil prices gained 3.6 per cent, crossing $78 per barrel for the first time since January amid the fears of the escalating situation in the Middle East. 'While markets are on edge, it seems like crude prices have some more room to rise before they start to cause real friction for the U.S. economy,' said the investment giant in its report released on 20 June 2025, before US carried out the hit against Iran's nuclear sites. According to an Economic Times report citing the investment bank, oil prices are expected to rise to as high as $120 per barrel if geopolitical tensions further escalate amid the ongoing conflict. The current oil prices show a 7 per cent chance of a worst-case economic scenario in which the impact will go beyond the reduced Iran exports, according to the news portal's report. Crude oil futures for both Brent and the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) closed lower after Friday's commodity market session. Investors' focus on Monday, 23 June 2025, will remain on how much the commodity takes a hit due to the increasing uncertainty in the market. The Brent futures of the September 2025 contract closed 2.33 per cent lower at $75.48 after the commodity market session on 21 June 2025. The WTI futures for the August 2025 contract also closed 0.28 per cent lower at $74.93 after the commodity market session into Saturday. Bloomberg Intelligence, in a research note, said that it is raising the near-term forecast for Brent crude to the $80-$90 range. 'We are raising our near-term Brent forecast to the $80–$90 range, with $100-plus oil increasingly likely given the elevated risk of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz,' according to the research report cited by the news portal Moneycontrol. In June, crude oil prices jumped 24 per cent to reach near their $75 per barrel range as investors fear this rise may continue, fueled by Middle East tensions. (This is a developing story. PM Modi receives call from Iran President; calls for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) Amid the US joining the Israeli attacks on Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today received a call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian who briefed him on the current situation. PM Modi, while expressing concern at the escalation, called for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward for restoration of regional peace and security. In a post on X, the PM said: 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. 'We discussed in detail about the current situation. 'Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.' A readout of the call, said that PM Modi 'received a telephone call from the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian today'. "President Pezeshkian briefed PM in detail and shared his perspective on the current situation in the region, especially the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. "PM expressed India's deep concern at the recent escalations. PM conveyed that India was on the side of peace and humanity. In this context, PM emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward. He reiterated India's support for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability. 'Prime Minister thanked President Pezeshkian for the continued support being extended for safe return and repatriation of the Indian community. The two leaders reiterated shared commitment to continue to work for strengthening bilateral cooperation in different areas including trade and economic cooperation, Science & Technology and people-to-people ties. 'They agreed to remain in touch.' The call between the two leaders came as US President Donald Trump said he had 'obliterated' Iran's main nuclear sites in strikes overnight, joining an Israeli assault in a major new escalation of conflict in the Middle East, even as Tehran vowed to defend itself. Iran termed the US attack a grave violation of international law that would have 'everlasting consequences'. 'Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest and people,' wrote Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in a social media post, noting that the Israeli and US attacks on Iran came despite ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran.
