Kenyan man's claim of being Elon Musk's son resurfaces, internet debunks with simple math

Time of India5 days ago
A 40-year-old Kenyan man has gone viral online after claiming to be the long-lost firstborn son of billionaire Elon Musk. Identifying himself only as a 'mental health activist' with an uncanny resemblance to Musk, the man says he wants a DNA test to prove his relationship with the tech mogul. According to his version of events, his mother supposedly met a 20-year-old Musk in the early 1990s while working at a hotel in Kenya's Masai Mara.
Elon Musk's Kenyan son? Viral image raises eyebrows
While the man's claim initially stunned many, the momentary shock quickly gave way to scepticism. The story first appeared on a social media account named African Hub, which failed to provide key details like the man's name, current whereabouts, or even a second photograph. That lack of transparency set off alarm bells, and users began picking apart the story almost immediately. The post was shared with the caption, "Kenyan man claims he is Elon Musk's son." Since being shared on August 3 on X, the post has generated 9.7 million views, 55k likes, 4.7k retweets, and 3.3k comments.

The maths doesn't add up
One of the first red flags netizens pointed out was the timeline. If the man is 40 years old, and Musk is currently 54, then Musk would have been just 14 at the time of the man's birth, not 20, as claimed. 'Elon isn't 60; he's like 53 or 54,' a user wrote, calling the math 'impossible.' The age discrepancy quickly became a central point of contention. Additionally, if the man was born in the 1990s, he couldn't possibly be 40 years old. If the man were born in 1990, he would be 35 in 2025.
Anonymity deepens the mystery
The second major issue was the man's anonymity. No name, no verifiable records, and no additional images exist to support his identity. Even Pie Radio UK, one of the accounts that shared the story, admitted they hadn't fact-checked it properly when followers pressed for answers.
Suspicions of AI involvement
The third and most serious concern? The photo itself. Many online users began suggesting that the image wasn't real at all but AI-generated. They cited strange details in the man's shirt, background blurring, and unnatural features. 'If this is not AI, let him drop another picture,' one user commented, voicing a sentiment shared by many.
Photo recycled from older trends
Internet sleuths then discovered that this exact image and headline had actually surfaced months earlier—on Russian websites in March 2024. Since then, no new photos or updates about the so-called "Kenyan Musk" have emerged, leading to widespread agreement that the image might have originated from a social media trend in 2023. That trend involved using AI to create 'Black versions' of famous white celebrities.
Kenyan man claims .@elonmusk is his dad"Dear Kenyans, please help me reconnect with my dad.@elonmusk In the early 90's my mom was a hotel manager at JW Marriot Masai Mara Lodge when Elon Musk toured here. I'm now living in abject poverty despite my dad being a dollar… pic.twitter.com/uEEYlVr2Jh
The rise of AI-generated fakery and Echoes of Dead Internet theory
Beyond this specific case, the incident has reignited conversations around the growing flood of AI-generated content. Meta recently revealed that it's launching a suite of AI tools for Facebook and Instagram, including the ability to create AI characters that behave like real users. The bizarre viral claim has also drawn attention to the 'Dead Internet Theory'—the idea that increasing parts of the web are made up of content created, circulated, and consumed by bots. The theory suggests that, in the future, genuine human interaction online could be drowned out by loops of automated fakery. What began as a laughable claim from an anonymous man might actually point to a more unsettling reality.
A warning disguised as a hoax?
Though most netizens have dismissed the Kenyan man's claim as a hoax, some argue that the image's reappearance is more than just internet mischief. In a time when AI is increasingly blurring the lines between fact and fiction, even harmless fakes could slowly undermine trust in everything we see online.
In the end, most viewers dismissed the claim as an obvious fake, and not even a convincing one. 'Desperate,' one user remarked, capturing the overall sentiment. With AI-generated content flooding the internet, many worry that stories like this will only become more common, more believable, and more difficult to debunk. Still, plenty of users saw the humour in it, sharing sarcastic takes and hilarious reactions across social media.

Elon Musk's real children
As of now, Elon Musk has publicly acknowledged 14 children with four different women:
With Justine Wilson: Nevada Alexander (deceased), Griffin, Vivian, Kai, Saxon, and Damian
With Grimes: X AE A-XII, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus
With Shivon Zilis: Strider, Azure, Arcadia, and Seldon Lycurgus

Elon Musk's GrokAI accused of making Taylor swift nudes without any prompts; but why Donald Trump's new law against adult contempt may not be able to do anything

Representative image Elon Musk's chatbot Grok has once again landed in a controversy. Recently, Elon Musk announced that Grok Imagine an AI video editing tool is free for everyone. The announcement was made hours after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman launched the latest AI model — GPT-5. Now, Elon Musk's AI video tool — Grok Imagine is facing backlash after multiple reports revealed that it generated explicit deepfake videos of Taylor Swift—without users requesting sexual content. As reported by Verge, the controversy started when a tech journalist Jess Weatherbed started testing Grok's 'Spicy Mode' and to his surprise he notice uncensored, topless clips of Swift, despite entering a harmless prompt: 'Taylor Swift celebrating Coachella with the boys'. What xAI said about Grok Imagine's creating deepfakes xAI has responded to the issue and has said that they are 'enhancing safeguards' and prioritizing ethical use of AI. Groom in space, bride in Texas: The love story that became the first ISS wedding in history

Source: Russia Beyond On August 10, 2003, the International Space Station became the setting for one of the most extraordinary weddings ever recorded. Orbiting Earth at 28,000 km/h, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko said 'I do' to his American fiancée Ekaterina Dmitriev, who stood waiting 400 km below at NASA 's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This was no publicity stunt—it was a daring blend of love and spaceflight, navigating complex legal, technical, and cultural hurdles. In a moment that bridged two worlds—the boundless expanse of space and the intimacy of human connection—it proved that even in the most advanced realms of exploration, the heart still finds its own orbit. International Space Station becomes the world's most unusual wedding venue The ISS is a multi-national laboratory in low Earth orbit, a place where every minute is carefully scheduled for experiments, maintenance, and communications. Weddings were not part of its official mission objectives. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mr. Bala's Powerful Intraday Strategy Revealed – No More Guesswork TradeWise Learn More Undo Yet, on that August day, the station's communication systems—designed for critical mission updates, data transfer, and crew coordination—were temporarily adapted to facilitate a marriage ceremony. At the time, the ISS was orbiting roughly 400 km above Earth, completing one orbit every 90 minutes. That meant that during the wedding, the station likely passed over multiple continents, giving 'worldwide coverage' a very literal meaning. How Russian cosmonaut long-distance romance led to the first wedding in space Yuri Malenchenko, already a veteran of multiple spaceflights, had spent much of his professional life training and working away from home. Ekaterina Dmitriev, a US-based space enthusiast of Russian descent, had met him years earlier through mutual acquaintances in the aerospace field. Their relationship was a lesson in long-distance endurance. Malenchenko often trained in Star City, Russia, while Dmitriev lived in the United States. They sustained their romance through phone calls, occasional visits, and a shared passion for space exploration. The couple initially planned a traditional wedding with 200 guests in attendance. But when Malenchenko's mission aboard the ISS was unexpectedly extended, postponing the wedding by months or even years, they faced a choice—delay the marriage or find a way to bridge the gap. They chose the latter. After securing approval from Russian space authorities, they planned what became the first and only marriage ceremony conducted from space. Inside the International Space Station's first-ever wedding ceremony Conducting a wedding between space and Earth involved complex coordination between Roscosmos (Russian space agency) and NASA. The ISS's Ku-band communication system was used to transmit live video and audio between the spacecraft and mission control. Key elements of the ceremony: Visual connection: Dmitriev stood in a decorated room at NASA's Houston facility, while Malenchenko appeared live on a monitor from the ISS. Dress code: Malenchenko wore his formal Russian space suit with a bow tie as a symbolic gesture. Dmitriev wore a traditional ivory wedding gown. Music in orbit: Astronaut Ed Lu, serving as Malenchenko's best man, played the wedding march on a small keyboard aboard the ISS. Cultural touches: Dmitriev walked down the aisle to David Bowie's 'Space Oddity', linking the ceremony to space pop culture. Symbolic gestures: The bride blew a kiss toward the camera, and the groom reciprocated from orbit. From orbit to Earth: The reunion after the first wedding in space Ekaterina Dmitriev later told the New York Times that, 'As Yuri was further away, he was closer to me because of the communication we have.' She called the orbital wedding a reflection of 'mankind's desire and need to go one step further.' Marriage became a symbol of human adaptability—proving that even in the most extreme environments, people find ways to preserve traditions and emotional bonds. It also captured the imagination of the public, blending romance, technology, and exploration in a single event. Following the ceremony, Malenchenko continued his ISS duties for several months. In October 2003, he returned to Earth, finally meeting his wife in person as her husband. Photographs of their reunion marked the end of one of the most remarkable long-distance weddings in history.
