The Disturbing Claims of the Smurl Family
Between 1974 and 1989, the Smurl family recounted a terrifying ordeal of demonic infestation within their residence. Their claims included a barrage of unsettling phenomena, from inexplicable loud noises and foul, pervasive odors to instances of violent physical attacks. The family reported their dog being violently thrown against a wall, their mattresses shaking uncontrollably, and one of their daughters allegedly being pushed down a flight of stairs. Some members of the Smurl family even claimed to have been subjected to physical and sexual harm by the malevolent entity.

In 1986, the renowned paranormal investigators
Ed and Lorraine Warren
were called in to investigate the Smurl's claims. Ed Warren described the entity as a powerful demonic force, noting the presence of chilling cold spots and a menacing dark shadow within the house. He also recounted a chilling message that purportedly appeared on a mirror, demanding that he leave the premises. In their attempts to exorcise the demon, the Warrens employed religious music and prayer. Ed Warren further claimed to have captured audio recordings of the demon manifesting as knocks on the walls. Their investigation into the Smurl Haunting spanned several months, adding another dark chapter to their extensive case files.
Public Scrutiny and Differing Explanations
The Smurl Haunting garnered significant media attention, drawing various individuals to the case, including not only the Warrens but also clergy members, psychologists, and skeptical investigators. Each group offered differing perspectives on the events, with some suggesting natural or psychological explanations for the family's experiences. The lack of definitive physical evidence led many to question the validity of the supernatural claims.
From Haunted House to Book and Screen
Intriguingly, the same year that the Warrens initiated their investigation, the Smurl's alleged experiences were chronicled in a book titled The Haunted. This book further amplified the family's claims and the details surrounding the haunting. In 1991, the story was adapted into a made-for-television movie bearing the same title, The Haunted, bringing the Smurl's terrifying narrative to a wider audience.
The Conjuring Universe
Takes on the Last Rites
The upcoming film, The Conjuring: Last Rites, will likely narrow its focus to the intense 1986 investigation led by Ed and Lorraine Warren, rather than attempting to cover the entire fifteen-year span of the alleged haunting. The newly released trailer strongly suggests a dark and unsettling tone, hinting at the terrifying events that unfolded within the Smurl household. Fans of the Conjuring universe can anticipate the chilling exploration of this infamous case when The Conjuring: Last Rites arrives in cinemas on September 5, 2025.

Jason Kelce shares emotional family moment—and Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson can't hold back their reactions
Jason Kelce melts hearts with family post as Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson gush over it (Instagram) While Jason Kelce has made headlines for his powerful plays and passionate NFL takes, it's his 3-year-old daughter Bennett—lovingly called 'Benny'—who's been winning over hearts online. Just two weeks ago, Kelce was deep in football talk, defending the much-debated 'tush push' play on his podcast. But while the veteran center was fully immersed in gridiron strategy, Benny had her own priorities. When Kelce turned to her with a lighthearted question—'Should the Eagles be allowed to do the tush push?'—her candid reply instantly stole the show: 'I'm in time out.' Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson are all hearts over Jason Kelce's touching message about family That abrupt yet adorable answer perfectly sums up Benny's energy—a delightful mix of sass and sweetness. As the third of four daughters in the Kelce household, she's already carved out a vibrant identity. Her siblings, Wyatt (5), Elliotte (4), and newborn baby Finn, are no strangers to her big personality. In fact, Benny became a viral sensation earlier this year when the family announced Kylie Kelce's pregnancy. The heartwarming snapshot featured all three big sisters in matching 'big sis' sweaters. But what stood out most was Benny's raw reaction—tears streaming down her face as the camera captured a truly honest moment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dễ dàng lắp đặt gạch lát sàn cao su – Làm mới ngôi nhà của bạn một cách dễ dàng! At least Ellie, mom, and dad are on the same page!' Kylie wrote. Recently, though, it was a simple, everyday moment that propelled Benny back into the spotlight. Jason Kelce posted a hilarious photo of his daughter completely zonked out in bed, fully dressed in a bright blue outfit and shoes—clearly knocked out after a day full of excitement. He captioned the post with a relatable dad joke: 'Me after drinking Garages all afternoon.' The comparison between a post-happy hour adult and an exhausted toddler struck a chord, and fans couldn't stop laughing. NFL personalities joined in on the fun. 'It's the body placement for me,' commented Erin Andrews, while Charissa Thompson added, 'Same girl.' But beyond the chuckles, it was Benny's pure exhaustion and authentic vibe that had parents everywhere nodding in solidarity. That moment, much like her time-out declaration, reminded everyone that kids bring a refreshing honesty to life—even when their dads are busy talking football. Whether she's unintentionally ending football debates or collapsing mid-outfit into a nap, Benny Kelce is proving to be a scene-stealer in her own right. And with each charming appearance, she continues to showcase the softer, more humorous side of one of the NFL's most beloved families. Also Read: Nick Chubb and Joe Mixon together? From dacoits to organised crime: Chambal haunted ravines now hub for AK-47 training and gang operations; linked to Lawrence Bishnoi and Anandpal Singh
From dacoits to organised crime: Chambal haunted ravines now hub for AK-47 training and gang operations; linked to Lawrence Bishnoi and Anandpal Singh JAIPUR: Once known for being haunted hideouts of moustached bandits on horseback, the infamous Chambal ravines are now witnessing a new era of organised crime. Until a few decades ago, the rugged terrain of Dholpur and Karauli was used as a fortress for keeping hostages in captivity with escape routes unknown to the outside world. But now the rivines echo with the gunfire of automatic weapons as they have transformed into training grounds for a new breed of criminals. The dacoits haven't disappeared, they've simply changed alliances. The recent arrest of gangster Jeetu Chambal has revealed a deepening nexus between traditional outlaws and interstate crime syndicates. Jeetu, a known criminal from Dholpur, was caught with an AK-47, allegedly procured from Jaipur. However, what stunned investigators even more was the discovery of a makeshift shooting range hidden in the ravines, used to train sharpshooters and hitmen for organised criminal networks, including those linked to Lawrence Bishnoi and Anandpal Singh. According to anti-gangster task force (AGTF), the hidden range was developed by Jeetu and his brother Ramdutt alias Sonu, a history-sheeter with links to the Anandpal gang. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo These men have become trainers and facilitators for a wider crime syndicate that stretches beyond Rajasthan's borders. Gangsters from Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh reportedly used the facility to train with sophisticated weapons before executing high-profile killings, including those of gangster Raju Thehat and Rajput leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. The network came to light while AGTF was tracing the origin of an AK-47, the existence of which surfaced during the investigation into the murder of Gogamedi, who was shot dead at his house in Jaipur's Shyam Nagar area in Dec 2023. Among those arrested was shooter Nitin Fauji. During the investigation, it emerged that a man named Mahendra had given shelter to Fauji at his flat in the city. When police searched the flat, they recovered a photo of an AK-47. Now, more than 18 months later, AGTF recovered an AK-47 from Jeetu Chambal. While AGTF has not officially confirmed whether it is the same AK-47 seen in the photo found at Mahendra's flat, it is suspected that the weapon was being used to train interstate criminal gangs in handling sophisticated weapons. During interrogation, Jeetu told police that the AK-47 was handed over to him on Kalwar Road in Jaipur by a man who hid it in a cricket kit nearly four months ago. He travelled from Chambal with help from Shivraj Singh, a key associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Jeetu didn't even know his way around Jaipur, requiring Shivraj to guided him to the pickup spot. The weapon came with 34 live cartridges and was allegedly ordered by his brother Ramdutt, who was running the Chambal camp with military-style discipline. "The traditional dacoits have vanished from the Chambal, but the nexus of the new breed of criminals from the area with organised gangs is a matter of concern," said an AGTF official. The firing range was being operated professionally, evident from the arrest of one Shyampal Thakur, a wanted criminal with a Rs 15,000 reward on his head, from the ravines of Dholpur on Friday. Thakur, linked to the Sonu Chambal gang, is accused of overseeing arrangements for gang members who used illegal firing ranges in the Chambal ravines to train with weapons. He is also suspected of being involved in arms trafficking, sheltering fugitives, and relaying police activity updates to the gang. Officials said he played a key role in managing food, shelter, and transport for visiting criminals from Rajasthan and neighbouring states.
