Kalpana taking things easy before big autumn targets
Kalpana is set for a short break to recover from her Ascot exertions, but as a general 7-1 favourite for the Arc could follow the 'Bluestocking route' to the French capital with the Vermeille a possibility for her return.
Kempton's Unibet September Stakes on September 6, a race the daughter of Study Of Man won last season before landing Group One success on British Champions Day – and used by the great Enable to tee-up Arc glory in 2018, is another option at her disposal.
'She ran huge and the handicapper put her official rating up again which shows she ran a career best,' said Juddmonte's European racing manager Barry Mahon, reflecting on her Ascot second.
'She's so genuine and just always tries her heart out and Andrew is going to give her a little break now just to freshen her up with the autumn in mind.
'What that will look like we're not quite sure yet, but we've got the Prix Vermeille and September Stakes as the two races we will look at and hopefully, ultimately it is the Arc in October.
'Both races have lead us to Arc glory in the past so the owners will sit down with Andrew in a few weeks time and see which way they want to go.'
Prior to her second to Calandagan, Kalpana has also performed with credit in two appearances at the Curragh when third in the Tattersalls Gold Cup after an interrupted passage, then runner-up to Whirl in a thrilling renewal of the Pretty Polly Stakes.
Buoyed by those fine efforts in defeat on quicker going over the summer months, the Kalpana team are now excited about what could come when encountering envisaged easier conditions in the second half of the season when combined with her preferred mile and a half distance.
Mahon added: 'She'll be ready to go in the autumn and hopefully there will be a little bit more juice in the ground which we know she likes and will suit her. She's shown such a high level of form on good and good to firm that we feel there is a bit more to come on softer ground.
'She's favourite for the Arc and I don't know if that indicates much or not but it is one of Europe's premier middle-distance races and definitely the type of races Juddmonte want to be competing in.'

Newcastle have seen an opening offer for Sesko rejected and are discussing the possibility of pursuing Ramos at PSG, with the French side open to his exit. The Magpies considered the Portuguese forward as an option three years ago before they signed Isak. Ramos was then at Benfica, but later joined the French champions. He is by no means a regular starter in Paris though and the striker, still only 24, is being considered as a target at St James' Park after scoring 33 goals from 86 matches at the Parc des Princes. Newcastle's priority target is Sesko, but they will look elsewhere if negotiations head south, reports the Daily Mail. Eddie Howe's side saw a bid of £69.8m including add-ons turned down. Discussions continue over the structure of that deal whilst those in Manchester have not made an offer. Sesko is open to both projects at the respective Premier League clubs, although it is Newcastle who can offer him Champions League football for the upcoming season. The Slovenian was absent from Leipzig's pre-season friendly loss to Atalanta on Saturday due to his expected departure. He has reportedly told his team-mates that he will be leaving, as per Sky in Germany. Marcel Schafer, RB Leipzig's managing director for sport, has confirmed that interested parties have expressed their desire to take the player. He said: "We won't go into detail on that but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it's obvious what has happened." United have already added Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha this summer but want a No 9. It is understood that Leipzig are interested in United's Rasmus Hojlund and have considered a possible loan. The German club had proposed taking Hojlund on loan as part of any any deal that takes Sesko to Manchester. Newcastle are also interested in Brentford's Yoane Wissa, who was not part of Brentford's squad for their friendly against QPR on Saturday, as he looks to move away from the west London outfit. Enzo Maresca makes shock U-turn and tries to block Chelsea transfer
Enzo Maresca has held fresh talks with Christopher Nkunku in a bid to convince the misfiring Chelsea forward to stay at Stamford Bridge. Nkunku was expected to be sold by Chelsea following another disappointing season at the Premier League club. Chelsea spent £52m to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023 but the France international missed most of his first season in west London through injury. Nkunku was back fit last season but still endured a disappointing campaign, contributing just three goals in the Premier League. Chelsea fans have been hugely underwhelmed by Nkunku's form at the club considering he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021-22 and was the league's top goalscorer before his arrival. The Blues were open to offers for Nkunku during the January transfer window and were expected to cash in on the 27-year-old this summer. Chelsea have bolstered Maresca's squad with several new signings this summer so the sale of Nkunku would give them a chance to make room for the new additions and raise some funds. However, according to L'Equipe, Maresca recently held talks with Nkunku and made it clear that he could still be part of his project at Stamford Bridge. Maresca appreciates Nkunku's profile and knows squad depth will be needed as Chelsea look to challenge Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for the title while competing in Europe. It is unclear whether Nkunku will settle for a rotational role in Maresca's squad as he has aspirations of making France's squad for next summer's World Cup. Tottenham took on Premier League rivals Newcastle in a pre-season friendly in Seoul on Sunday and there were a few dramatic incidents between the two teams including between Cristian Romero and Bruno Guimaraes Bruno Guimaraes and Cristian Romero clashed in Seoul with the Newcastle man putting his hands around the Tottenham star's throat. The two Premier League rivals clashed in Seoul on Sunday as part of their pre-season preparations. And it was a dramatic affair between the two sides, with the game finishing in a 1-1 draw - the goals coming via Brennan Johnson and Harvey Barnes. And there was even more drama before half-time between Brazilian midfielder Guimaraes and Argentine defender Romero. The Newcastle man had managed to evade a wild challenge from the defender just outside of the penalty area. The Brazilian was then shoved to the floor by Romero when trying to make space. Guimaraes reacted angrily to that push as he jumped up and put his hands around Romero's neck. The Brazilian was probably fortunate to escape further punishment but given the pre-season nature of the game, that might explain why. The flashpoint between the pair was not the only incident during the game. The match potentially represents Son Heung-min 's final game for the North London side. He was withdrawn just after the hour mark to great acclaim from supporters within the stadium. Meanwhile, midfielder James Maddison appeared to pick up what was a serious injury and had to be stretchered off of the pitch in the closing stages. Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: 'I think sometimes in life and football things can be both beautiful and brutal. That's what we got today. It looks like with Madders a bad injury and then on the other side unbelievable scenes for Son from his team-mates and the respect from the Newcastle players. 'First we had the walkaround and then the team-mates gathered around and he was emotional. In the changing room it was more of the same. "I just said a few things but not much because it's about Sonny and then he said a few things. It was beautiful." Spurs now have just under two weeks left to go until their first Premier League match of the season against newly-promoted Burnley. Before that, they take on Bayern Munich in their final pre-season game. Spurs also take on French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Elsewhere, Newcastle take on Aston Villa in their Premier League opener.
