Former Ohio State basketball players get fans pumped for upcoming season
If you haven't noticed yet, the Ohio State basketball program is welcoming former players back to Columbus for a week they call "Vet Camp." It's a chance for former OSU players to come back to town and practice, work out, and coach the current roster full of players.
It's a great time to connect and be around guys who have been through the thick and thin, who have bled Scarlet and Gray and can relate and provide guidance, competition, and a mature outlook on what it means to be an OSU basketball player. After Monday, many of those who came back to stay in touch with the program they used to play for took time out to express their excitement about the upcoming season on social media.
It's a short message by the likes of Greg Oden, D'Angelo Russell, Brice Sensabaugh, Kosta Koufus, and Ron Lewis, and a few others, of the anticipation for what this season could bring. All believe in what head coach Jake Diebler and the program are building and what could be in store for the 2025-2026 season. Hopefully, these former players are correct because the Buckeye program sorely needs to have a momentum-building year where it makes it back to the NCAA Tournament. It would help immensely if Ohio State also contended for a Big Ten title and more, but baby steps, right?

He played in 10 games, finishing with 939 yards through the air, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions. He will get the start when the Longhorns open the 2025 season in Columbus against the Buckeyes on August 30. College GameDay will also be present for that contest. The Longhorns will also return other key players, including linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., edge rusher Collin Simmons, and running back CJ Baxter. Baxter missed the entire 2024 campaign with a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee but was productive in 2023, finishing with 659 rushing yards and five touchdowns off 138 carries. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian will be in his fifth season as head coach when the 2025 season starts in August. He has compiled a 38-17 overall record in his first four seasons at the helm. Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin may not be a Hall-of-Fame player on the level of Calvin Johnson, but that doesn't mean he isn't elite in his own right. Now, McLaurin wants a new deal. The former Ohio State product is entering the final year of his contract with the team and is looking to be paid among the elite receivers in the sport. Johnson, a former Detroit Lions all-time great, fully supports this. In a recent appearance on Up & Adams, Johnson praised McLaurin and believes the receiver is worthy of a long-term extension. "I don't know Terry very well, but from afar, man, the guy has been nothing but consistent for that organization," Johnson said. "He's been a staple there in Washington his whole career. And you know, he plays his role, plays it well. He steps up in big games. And I love watching the kid because he's always making plays." Both were great before, during, and after those SEC quarterbacks were brought in. Johnson is considered one of the greatest modern receivers in NFL history. McLaurin isn't at that stage yet but is regarded as one of the more consistent players in the league today. McLaurin will eventually get the deal he's been coveting for years now. And it'll only make a Hall-of-Famer like Johnson happy at this point.
