73-year-old woman crushed to death as engineer loses control over SUV
According to the police, the car's owner, Manohar Taduka, is a resident of Nerul and had come to meet his sister at the Bhau Daji Lad Road, in Matunga. While he was parking his vehicle, the deceased, Jayabhen Parekh, who lives with her family in Dadar and runs a garment business, was on her way to meet her sister.
The police said that as Taduka tried to park the car outside the building, he lost control of it. 'The SUV rammed into the 73-year-old and she came under the front tyre and was dragged for some distance,' said a police officer, adding that Taduka immediately rushed her to the Sion Hospital. Her son, Manoj Parekh, 53, was informed, but by the time he arrived at the hospital, his mother had succumbed to her injuries, the police said.
The police have booked Taduka under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police added that they have also given a notice to Taduka under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Three arrested for assaulting stall owner and robbing his wife of gold pendant in Pimpri
1 2 Pune: Sant Tukaramnagar police on Monday arrested three daily wage workers on charge of assaulting a 35-year-old man in Pimpri's Gandhinagar and snatching his wife's gold pendant worth Rs40,000. The incident occurred around 5pm on Aug 3. While fleeing from the spot, the trio hurled cement blocks, causing the victim's 48-year-old neighbour to sustain injuries in her hands and legs. He said the complainant witnessed the incident and rushed to her husband's aid. "The trio pushed the woman and snatched her pendant. The woman sustained injuries in the incident," he said. The officer said after receiving the complaint, police conducted searches in Gandhinagar and took the trio into custody.

Youth killed as concrete mixer truck hits motorcycle in Piplod
Surat: A 25-year-old youth was killed on Tuesday morning when a concrete mixer dumper rammed his bike near Rahul Raj Mall in Piplod. Umra police arrested the driver, Rampal Yadav, and booked the dumper owners for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Deputy commissioner of police (Zone-4) Vijay Singh Gurjar said the accident occurred around 9:30am when the victim, Subhash Rangbahadur Singh, was riding his bike opposite Rahul Raj Mall. The dumper driver was driving carelessly and hit Singh's bike, killing him on the spot. Since commercial heavy vehicles are banned inside city limits between 8am to 1pm and 5pm to 10pm, we have taken this violation seriously and booked the dumper owners along with the driver," said Gurjar. Police said the dumper was supplying concrete from Neel Concrete Plant in Ichhapore to the 'Oliva Breeze' construction site in Piplod. The driver has been arrested, and action against the vehicle owners is underway. The victim, Subhash Singh, lived in Katargam and worked as a security supervisor in Surat. A native of Bhojpur district, he had moved to the city for livelihood. Police have also invoked the Motor Vehicle Act and Gujarat Police Act.

HC grants bail to Anant in firing case
Patna: The Patna high court on Tuesday granted bail to former MLA Anant Singh in connection with an inter-gang shootout that occurred in Mokama on Jan 22 this year. The order was passed by a single bench of Justice Chandra Shekhar Jha, who allowed Singh's bail petition after reviewing the case. Anant, who was named as an accused in an FIR registered at Pachmahla police station in Patna district, can now step out of the jail. He is alleged to have abetted a violent clash between his associates and members of a local gang led by two brothers, Sonu and Monu. The shootout took place in Nauranga-Jalalpur village within the Mokama administrative circle of Patna district. He has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for offences including rioting, unlawful assembly and obstruction of govt duties, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, 1959. Following the incident, Anant surrendered before a magisterial court in Barh on Jan 24, where he was remanded in judicial custody the same day. Since then, he had been lodged in prison. His regular bail plea was earlier rejected by the special MP/MLA court in Patna on Feb 6.
