Delhi government seeks Rs 1K crore for measures to clean up air
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has requested a grant of Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre to deploy new technology and implement measures to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Sunday.
Verma, along with Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, was inspecting the Nehru Park area as part of the government's initiative to install air purifiers in the city.
'Since we have formed the government, our cabinet minister Singh Sirsa and his department have taken several steps in lowering pollution and AQI in Delhi. We will identify spots in Delhi and come forward with our best technology. We have requested a funding of Rs 1000 crore from the central government for this,'Sahib Singh said.
The ministers visited Nehru Park to review the feasibility of creating a pilot Clean Air Zone. The government is evaluating whether the installation of outdoor air purifiers across public parks can create micro-climates of significantly cleaner air, particularly during days with increased AQI levels.
This is part of a larger exploratory study that could lead to Delhi's first Clean Air Zone if found viable. The 85-acre Nehru Park has been identified as a potential pilot site for the installation of 150 advanced air purification machines, subject to further analysis.
'We are conducting a study. The technology has shown promise in limited applications, and we aim to determine whether it can work across larger green zones, such as Nehru Park. We aim to ask people if the technology fit to work or not in their feedback,' said Sirsa. 'This is part of a proactive approach — testing innovation before scale, and only where it truly benefits people.'
Each proposed purifier is over 9 feet tall and uses advanced filtration technology to capture harmful PM2.5 particles. If implemented in the future, these could cover a 400–600 square meter radius and offer year-round relief to walkers, joggers, and children using the park.

Apollo Hospitals to hive-off pharmacy, digital health businesses
Apollo Hospitals Enterprise on Monday said its board has approved separate listing of its omnichannel pharmacy and digital health businesses within 18-21 months, as part of reorganisation exercise to unlock value. The board of directors of Apollo Hospitals and Apollo HealthCo, a subsidiary of the the healthcare major, have accorded in-principle approval for the composite scheme of arrangement. The scheme entails the demerger of the Omni Channel Pharma and Digital Health business -- comprising the telehealth business of Apollo and its investment in AHL (Apollo HealthCo Limited) -- into a new entity. Following the demerger, the scheme provides for the amalgamation of AHL with the new entity. It would subsequently be followed by the amalgamation of Keimed Pvt Ltd , India's leading wholesale pharmaceutical distributor, with NewCo (new entity). Live Events The scheme creates a formidable omnichannel pharmacy distribution and digital health platform leader in India, with stated plans to achieve Rs 25,000 crore revenue by FY27, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise said in a regulatory filing. Upon the effectiveness of the Scheme, the new entity will become an Indian Owned and Controlled Company (IOCC) and will apply for listing on the stock exchanges, it added. The listing is expected within 18-21 months, the healthcare major said. Upon becoming an IOCC, the entity also proposes to consolidate the front-end pharmacy business by acquiring the remaining 74.5 per cent stake in Apollo Medicals Pvt Ltd (AMPL), which owns 100 per cent of Apollo Pharmacies Limited (APL), it said. Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (AHEL) will retain 15 per cent stake in the 'NewCo' to ensure an integrated, seamless, and comprehensive healthcare offering across the patient lifecycle, it added. "The omnichannel pharmacy business and integrated digital healthcare ecosystem will be a unique model to enable access to high-quality healthcare for millions of Indians," Apollo Hospitals Group Chairman Prathap C Reddy said. Telangana factory blast: Rescue teams unsure of survivors under debris; DNA tests under way to identify charred bodies
NEW DELHI: After the deadly explosion at Pharma factory in Telangana's Sangareddy district on Monday, rescue officials said they remain unsure about how many individuals are still trapped under the debris of the collapsed factory building. Blast during drying process; fire followed 'Today, at around 9.48 am, there was a blast in the drying unit at Sigachi Pharma Company. The explosion led to a fire. A total of 12 people have died and 35 are injured in the incident,' said Y Nagi Reddy, Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, as quoted by ANI. He said the blast likely occurred during the air handling or drying of microcrystalline cellulose, a compound used in pharmaceuticals. 'We are currently unsure of the number of people under the debris,' Reddy added. The explosion, which took place at Pashamylaram industrial area, about 50 km from Hyderabad, caused significant structural damage.
