Studio expansion plan scaled back over costs
Pinewood Studios, near Iver Heath in Buckinghamshire, known for the filming of the James Bond and Star Wars franchises, said it was looking to change the plans to build 21 new stages, a training hub and a publicly accessible nature reserve.
It said it was proposing to combine a "smaller film production studio with a data centre" due to a reduction in global content production, increased construction costs and business rates.
The public is being asked to give feedback at three events on 25, 26 and 27 February - and by contacting the company.
The studio group said that in 2023, planning permission was granted, but since then "there has been a reduction in global film and high-end television production which has triggered a review of our existing planning consent".
"In response and considering national economic and planning policy, we are reviewing development options for Pinewood South and are looking at a proposal to combine a smaller film production studio with a data centre."
It said the expansion and investment would create more film stages and production facilities, alongside the development of a data centre.
Pinewood Studios opened in 1936 and has played host to the filming of dozens of major movie projects, as well as the Superman, James Bond and Star Wars franchises.
Chief executive officer at the Pinewood Group, David Conway, said: "We are a dynamic business in a fast-moving industry, and we are committed to invest in the ongoing expansion of Pinewood Studios.
"The reduction in global content production, combined with rising construction costs and business rates, triggered a review of our existing planning consent and we believe the revised proposals provide a credible alternative."

Pierce Brosnan would consider James Bond return if director had 'something up his sleeve'
Pierce Brosnan wouldn't be opposed to returning to the James Bond franchise after Denis Villeneuve signed onto the project. Brosnan had a good sense of humor about the topic, telling the Radio Times: "I don't think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat." "Why not? It's great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?" Brosnan portrayed a version of 007 from 1995 until 2002. He starred in four total films – "GoldenEye," "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day." The actor admitted he and his wife have been on the lookout for Amazon's big reveal ever since the streamer took over full creative control of the franchise from the Broccoli family in February. Amazon initially acquired the distribution rights to the Bond films in 2022 after purchasing MGM. "I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who's going to be the next James Bond," Brosnan revealed. "There are many great candidates out there, and I'm sure they're going to make it a spectacle of delight." While there may be a handful of great candidates, Brosnan's "The Thursday Murder Club" co-star Helen Mirren insisted 007 "has to be a guy." "I'm such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a guy," she told Saga magazine. "You can't have a woman. It just doesn't work. James Bond has to be James Bond, otherwise it becomes something else." Robert Davi, who played the villain Franz Sanchez in the 1989 James Bond film "License to Kill," said he hopes the franchise does not go "woke" now that Amazon has creative control in an interview with Fox News Digital. "I hope it doesn't," Davi said in February. "You know, I was very close to 'Cubby' Broccoli and his wife, Dana, and the legacy... And they were, as far as I'm concerned, they were Ronald Reagan conservatives and wonderful people. And you know, I think if we succumb to every fad – especially one that's not based on total science – it's a little frightening."

Superman 2 Release Date Reportedly Revealed
The release date for may have been revealed. Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios' Superman movie was released in United States theaters in July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU film stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Following the release of Superman, Gunn began to tease Superman 2; however, he's also said that the follow-up will be 'a little different than what one might expect.' It's not immediately clear what Gunn means by this, though David Zaslav did recently refer to the film as being 'the next movie in the Super-Family.' What is the reported Superman 2 release date? According to insider EmpireCity Box Office, Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to release Superman 2 in July 2027. More specifically, the studio is reportedly eying July 9, 2027, or July 16, 2027, as a release date. This means the DCU sequel will be filming at the same time as The Batman 2, also known as The Batman Part II, next year. This is just a rumor at this time, as neither Gunn nor anybody at DC Studios has confirmed that this is the release date for Superman 2. Gunn has said, however, that the treatment for Superman 2 is already done and that production will start sooner than fans may be expecting. He just recently told Collider, 'We're scheduling it now. I'm totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They're not regular treatments. They're 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I'm just turning that into a script. We're planning out when we're going to shoot that. It's going to be much sooner rather than later.' Superman is now available to rent or purchase on digital outlets. The next DCU project is Peacemaker Season 2, which premieres this coming Thursday. Solve the daily Crossword

James Gunn Says 'Superman' Sequel to Be Filmed ‘Much Sooner Rather Than Later'
Superman director James Gunn doesn't have a pause or stop button when it comes to his work with DC Studios. After Superman's tremendous run at the box office, his switch is flipped over to the upcoming series Peacemaker, along with multiple movies on the horizon that are reportedly already moving forward. Yet, amid all the heavy lifting of getting everything rolling forward, his latest update highlights the plan for the 2025 film starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult. James Gunn Says the 'Superman' Sequel Will Come 'Much Sooner Rather Than Later' While it'll still likely be a good while until the sequel to this summer's biggest DC hit in years, there is good news for Superman fans. While speaking with Collider, Gunn revealed that he anticipates the sequel will come "much sooner rather than later. 'We're scheduling it now. I'm totally done with the treatment," Gunn said. "My treatments are incredibly intense. They're not regular treatments. They're 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I'm just turning that into a script. We're planning out when we're going to shoot that. It's going to be much sooner rather than later.' He continued by describing what he calls the "Superman Saga," as Gunn told Collider, and the timeline for that appears to be a quick one. 'I've already finished the treatment for the next story in what I'll call the 'Superman Saga'. The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked out treatment. I'm working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today," Gunn added. It's an eye-opening timeline for Gunn and the next addition to the Superman series, but after seeing his approach to the new DCU as a whole, it can't be considered all that surprising. He's moving things forward at a rapid rate, and fans of the many popular DC characters should have a lot to look forward to. 'Superman' Makes Strong Box Office Run With Impressive Reviews While Superman brought a renewed sense of excitement to DC fans, it also pulled in strong numbers at the box office. As ScreenRant highlighted, it surpassed two of the other most popular recent films from DC Studios in terms of domestic earnings, 2018's Aquaman and 2019's Joker. Superman currently sits with a cumulative domestic total of $335.6 million, meaning that only four DC movies have outperformed it at the box office in the United States currently. That list includes The Batman (2022), Wonder Woman (2017), The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and The Dark Knight (2008). Along with its strong box office pull, Superman continues to earn impressive reviews from critics and fans alike. It holds an 83 percent rating based on 479 critics' reviews and a 91 percent score on more than 25,000 verified fan reviews on Rotten Gunn Says 'Superman' Sequel to Be Filmed 'Much Sooner Rather Than Later' first appeared on Men's Journal on Aug 17, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword
