Laughing matters: Pope's praise forour top comedians
Father Ted star Ardal O'Hanlon was among a 'conclave of comedians', including fellow Irishmen Tommy Tiernan and Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty, who met the Pope in a private audience.
The group of around 100 comics met Pope Francis last June at the Vatican. Others who attended included Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Rock, Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien.

According to the Vatican News, Pope Francis told the comedians they had 'a precious gift,' that could spread peace 'within hearts and between peoples, helping us to overcome difficulties and cope with daily stress.'

'You denounce the excesses of power, give voice to forgotten situations, highlight abuses, point out inappropriate behaviour… but without spreading alarm and terror, anxiety or fear,' he told them.

Patrick Kielty's firm recorded profit of €173,000 after landing Late Late gig
The TV presenter incorporated Pamanco Ireland Ltd in May 2023 - the same month in which he was unveiled as the successor to Ryan Tubridy to host the Late Late Show. In June 2023, Kielty confirmed that his three year contract involved RTE paying him €250,000 for each of the three 30-episode Late Late Show series. Kielty was to also receive a one-off payment of €20,000 to cover pre-production and rehearsals before his September 2023 debut while he waived flight and accommodation expenses. Now, the first set of accounts filed by Pamanco Ireland Ltd show that from the date of incorporation on May 17th 2023 to the end of July last, the company recorded revenues of €286,656. The company recorded a gross profit of €239,819 after incurring cost of sales of €46,837. The company's pre-tax profits of €173,273 was recorded after administrative expenses of €66,546 were incurred. The company recorded a post tax profit of €151,614 after incurring a corporation tax charge of €21,659. In accounts signed off by Mr Kielty on May 8th, they state that under the heading of future developments, that the company 'plans to continue its present activities and current trading levels'. The firm is a subsidiary of Kielty's London based Boxed Productions Ltd. Accounts recently filed by Boxed Productions Ltd to Companies House in the UK show that it had accumulated profits of £1.37m at the end of March 2024.
