Police close investigation into death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey
The 40-year-old had been 'working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below' in Shoeburyness in Essex last year, a previous inquest hearing was told.
Mr Gilbey, of Clacton-on-Sea, suffered traumatic injuries to his head and torso and died on March 27 last year.
Essex Police said on Wednesday that two men, who were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, will face no further action from the force.
In a statement, the force said: 'Essex Police have confirmed their investigation into the death of George Gilbey last year has concluded.
'Two men who were arrested and released under investigation in connection with the incident in Shoebury on March 27, 2024, will face no further action from Essex Police.
'The thoughts of everyone at Essex Police remain with George's family and friends.
'The criminal investigation remains open and will be led by the Health and Safety Executive.'
HSE inspector Natalie Prince said: 'We have been a part of this inquiry from the outset and we will continue to thoroughly investigate George's tragic death as the lead agency.
'This will aim to establish if there have been any breaches of health and safety law.
'We are in regular contact with George's family, and our thoughts remain with them at this time.'
Mr Gilbey was best known for appearing on the Channel 4 series Gogglebox, where participants watch and comment on TV shows from the previous week.
The reality star also appeared on the 14th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, reaching the final.

Police will not endorse activities of volunteer ‘force' launching patrols
A police force said it will not endorse the activities of volunteers in Bournemouth who have set up a uniformed 'force' to patrol the streets, adding a review of their vetting processes highlighted 'areas of significant concern'. Safeguard Force, whose volunteers will wear branded bibs, said it aims to create 'safer, more supportive communities by providing visible, compassionate and non-confrontational patrols' which were set to start on August 11. The move follows two high-profile murder cases in the town as well as the local police force having to introduce dispersal powers on the seafront after a disturbance involving a 'large group of people' on June 30 which left a teenage girl and two officers injured. Dorset Police said a multi-agency meeting was held with Safeguard Force on Friday and 'a review of their vetting processes has highlighted areas of significant concern'. Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan, of Dorset Police, said: 'Following a multi-agency meeting on Friday 15 August 2025, which involved Dorset Police, other emergency services, the local authority and representatives of Safeguard Force, we will not be endorsing their activities. 'We have engaged with the group extensively and a review of their vetting processes has highlighted areas of significant concern. The organisers have been unable to provide reassurance that this group has sufficient safeguards in place to ensure volunteers are adequately vetted, trained, and equipped to undertake high-visibility patrols in the community. 'Safeguard Force's policies provided to police contain insufficient details in relation to the use of body-worn cameras, publishing of photographs of members of the public, administration and recording of any force used or first aid provided and limited evidence of any training provided. 'We welcome the responsible use of volunteers, who wish to carry out public service and there are many ways in which this can be facilitated in a safe way, including becoming a Special Constable, joining the street pastor programme, or via established Watch schemes. 'All these initiatives have appropriate policies and processes in place, particularly around the vetting of individuals and safeguarding of vulnerable people. 'Dorset Police continues to carry out high-visibility patrols, with 289 foot patrols taking place in the past seven days throughout Bournemouth town centre, gardens and seafront. 'This resulted in arrests being made and dispersal notices being issued, stop searches for drugs or weapons, anti-social behaviour incidents attended, intelligence gathered and almost 1,200 conversations with members of the public and 131 businesses and local premises visited. 'We would encourage members of the public to speak to our officers and report incidents and crimes directly to us so we're able to effectively respond and investigate.' In March, Nasen Saadi was jailed for life to serve a minimum of 39 years at Winchester Crown Court for the murder of Amie Gray and attempted murder of Leanne Miles on Bournemouth beach on May 24 2024. And in January 2023, Afghan asylum seeker Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai was jailed for life to serve a minimum of 29 years at Salisbury Crown Court for the murder of 21-year-old Thomas Roberts outside a Subway takeaway shop in Bournemouth in March 2022.

Man with outstanding warrants arrested following San Mateo mail theft, police say
A suspect arrested following a reported mail theft in San Mateo was found to be in possession of stolen property and wanted for other outstanding warrants, police said Friday. On Thursday at 3:23 a.m., San Mateo police dispatchers received a report of a mail theft on Vista Del Mar just west of Mariners Island Boulevard near the Foster City city limits. According to a press release from the department, officers obtained surveillance footage of the theft and found that the suspect was last seen on a bicycle heading east toward Mariners Island Boulevard. Officers found and detained a suspect who matched the description from the surveillance footage in the area of Mariners Island and Wharfside Road shortly afterward, police said. He was identified as 34-year-old San Mateo resident Christopher Henry, who police said was riding an e-bike reported stolen in San Bruno. Henry was arrested, and during a search, officers found stolen mail in his possession and burglary tools inside his duffel bag. He was also found to have two outstanding local warrants. Police booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of possession of stolen property, mail theft, and possession of burglary tools. The stolen e-bike was returned to the San Bruno Police Department, police said

Colorado man pleads guilty to distributing mushrooms after teenager's deadly fall from construction crane
A Colorado man has pleaded guilty to his role in connection with a 15-year-old's death after a deadly fall from a construction crane in Boulder last year. Benjamin Harmon pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of distribution of a controlled substance to a minor- schedule I or II, sexual exploitation of a child, and criminal attempt to commit money laundering. Investigators said the 15-year-old fell from the crane at a construction site at the University of Colorado Boulder campus on June 20, 2024 while "experiencing strong hallucinogenic effects" of psilocybin mushrooms purchased from Harmon three days earlier, according to a grand jury indictment against Harmon. The teenager fell "from an extreme height," as stated in the indictment. The Boulder County Coroner's Office found amounts of Psilocin, the compound in many psychedelic mushrooms which produces mind-altering effects, in the teen's blood. According to the Boulder District Attorney's Office, the Grand Jury investigation confirmed that Harmon distributed psilocybin to the teen. The investigation also revealed additional victims, 19 of them children, to whom Harmon had distributed drugs. The district attorney said one of those victims was sexually assaulted by Harmon, and from another victim, Harmon had obtained sexual abuse materials. All of the victims were high school students in Boulder County. Harmon was arrested Oct. 19, 2024 after he was indicted by a Grand Jury. "The CU Boulder Police Department would like to thank the Boulder County District Attorney's Office for its rigorous pursuit of justice in this case," said CUPD Chief Ashley Griffin in a statement. "CUPD is committed to protecting our campus and surrounding community, and we will continue working tirelessly with our partners to ensure that those who exploit and harm others are held fully accountable." On Friday, a judge sentenced Harmon to 35 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections. District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, "The teenager who died was loved by his family and friends. He had his whole life in front of him, until the defendant began preying upon him and other high school kids. Although this guilty plea and sentence is what the family wanted from the criminal case, the outcome will never fill the void caused by this defendant. I want to thank the law enforcement and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to advance this investigation. But for their efforts, this criminal prosecution would never have happened; it would have been classified as a tragic fall. Because of them, the true nature and depth of the defendant's conduct was discovered and he was brought to justice."
