The 23-year-old later discovered his prize was actually $50,000A Kentucky man on his lunch break ended up with much more than a sandwich.
Cameron Greenwell of Waverly purchased a Millionaire Club scratch-off ticket and quickly found out he had won $10,000, according to a news release from the Kentucky Lottery.
"I scratch the top part of the ticket for matching numbers, and the first one was the win of $10,000," the 23-year-old recalled. "I figured that was it."
But the story didn't end there. Greenwell — who works with his father spraying crops — folded up the ticket and tucked it into his pocket before returning to work on his tractor.
When he got home later that day, he went on the lottery's website to print out a claim form for his $10,000 prize.
"I was just printing my form, so I was sitting there at the desk doing nothing," Greenwell said, per the release. "I decided to scratch off the rest of the ticket. That's when I saw that I hit four '50X' $20 boxes."
Uncertain about what he was seeing, Greenwell called his father.
"My dad knew it was 10 grand, and I told him, 'I scanned it and it's not 10 grand,' and he said, 'What is it?' I said it was 50 grand," he recounted. "Dad said, 'Oh my God, like that's pretty cool.' "
Still not believing the size of his winnings, Greenwell downloaded the lottery's app. "I scanned [my ticket] like three times," he said with a laugh.
Greenwell later drove to the Kentucky Lottery's headquarters in Louisville to claim his jackpot in person, a requirement for larger prize amounts.

He told lottery officials that this was only his second time ever playing a Kentucky Lottery game.
Ultimately, Greenwell took home $36,000 after taxes. He plans to put some of the money into savings and use the rest on farming supplies.
"Things are just so expensive," he said.
Kentucky Lottery's Millionaire Club ticket, which was introduced in September 2023 and costs $50, has one top prize of $1 million and 69 second-tier prizes of $50,000 remaining.
