No. 2 QB Names the Best College in the State of Texas
The Texas Longhorns are not the only school in the state, with the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders and TCU Horned Frogs also present.
However, 2027 quarterback Kavian Bryant made sure to set the record straight about which program is the best in the Lone Star State. He said that Texas was the top university in the state, per Rivals' Steve Wiltfong.
Bryant would be a welcome addition to the Longhorns' 2027 class, as Texas only has one commit thus far, from four-star edge rusher Taven Epps.
The Longhorns already have a slight advantage, as Bryant hails from Palestine, Texas.
'The opportunity is extremely big,' Bryant has said of the Longhorns. 'You know, Texas is the college here in Texas, and for me to earn it is truly a blessing. The Longhorns coaching staff is great, great energy, and vibes were off the charts, and Longhorns history has been great, so yes, the camp was great and I'm blessed to receive the offer.'
Bryant is the No. 2 quarterback and No. 39 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2027 class.
Multiple Texas schools are in the race for Bryant, with Texas A&M leading at 28.9% in the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Aggies are followed by Texas Tech (25.3%), the SMU Mustangs (11.4%) and Texas (9.5%).
The Longhorns are also making a decent push to flip Georgia Bulldogs commit Justice Fitzpatrick, who is the brother of NFL star Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Current quarterback Arch Manning is primed to start after being the backup for the last two seasons. Manning's name has been thrown around a lot in the offseason, but Urban Meyer believed that the young quarterback would face a ton of pressure in 2025.
Meyer stated that Manning will face the most pressure of any quarterback in recent memory.
Manning and Texas face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the season opener on August 30 at Noon ET on Fox.This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 9, 2025, where it first appeared.

Auburn on Wrong End of College Football Rankings Trend
Auburn on Wrong End of College Football Rankings Trend originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Auburn Tigers have not had the best of luck since the days of former head coach Gus Malzahn, who holds their last winning season (2020). The Tigers finished 6-5 in the shortened Covid-19 season, but the struggles go back further than that. The team's last bowl win was in 2018, and it has been 12 years since Auburn competed for a national title. On Tuesday, Auburn appeared on an unfortunate top 25 list via On3's Brett McMurphy. McMurphy labeled the Tigers as the AP voters' No. 2 most overrated preseason team since the College Football Playoff era started in 2014. The only team above them was the USC Trojans. The last time Auburn was ranked in the AP Poll was in 2020, when it started the year at No. 11. Of the last three times that the Tigers were ranked to start the year in 2015, 2018, and 2020, they ended the year outside the top 25. Current head coach Hugh Freeze is entering a crucial year in his Auburn tenure after posting an 11-14 record through two seasons. Recruiting has been a strength of Freeze's since taking the job in 2023, earning top-10 classes in 2024 and 2025 via On3 Sports. Things have not gone well in the 2026 class, however. The Tigers lost key commitments over the offseason, and the class now ranks at No. 37 overall. Auburn already received a boost recently with the addition of four-star receiver Jase Matthews. On3's Steve Wiltfong believed the potential of playing with former five-star quarterback Deuce Knight swayed Matthews in the recruiting process. He also predicted that Auburn would be flipping plenty of prospects this year if the Tigers can compete for a CFP spot. Auburn hopes to reach that level after going for broke in the transfer portal with key additions like Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets receiver Eric Singleton Jr., and Virginia Tech Hokies offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin. The first game of year three under Freeze is the Baylor Bears on August story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 12, 2025, where it first appeared.

Joel Klatt Reveals Historic SEC Program That Can Crash College Football Playoff
Joel Klatt Reveals Historic SEC Program That Can Crash College Football Playoff originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Auburn Tigers have not had a winning season since 2020, when they went 6-5 under former head coach Gus Malzahn. Current head coach Hugh Freeze has yet to have a winning season and starts his third year with the program in 2025. He comes into the year with an 11-14 record and one bowl game appearance. Despite the slow start from Freeze, Joel Klatt believed Auburn has the potential to be a surprise College Football Playoff team on a recent episode of "The Joel Klatt Show." Auburn last competed for a national title in 2013 and has not won one since 2010 with Heisman winner Cam Newton. "Let me tell you why I considered Auburn," Klatt said. "Auburn, did you know last year, they had the most starts by freshmen of anybody in the Power 4. So this 5-7 season was in a large context, a learning year and a building year, and a developmental year for Auburn. Can they and will they improve on that? Well, absolutely, they can, and will they? Probably. Now 5-7 to into the playoffs." Last season, the Indiana Hoosiers shocked everyone and made their first College Football Playoff under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti. For Auburn to do the same, it will need to put in some work. The Tigers were voted as one of the most overrated preseason AP Poll teams by On3's Brett McMurphy, coming in at No. 2. Auburn has been ranked inside the preseason top 11 three times (2015, 2018, 2020), and each time it has finished unranked. One thing that Auburn has typically done well under Freeze is recruit. The Tigers had top 10 classes in 2024 and 2025 via On3 Sports, but have struggled in the 2026 class. Auburn's 2026 class ranks No. 37 overall, but the team recently added a commitment from four-star receiver Jase Matthews. Rivals' Steve Wiltfong reported that the commitment may have been influenced by the potential of playing with Deuce Knight, who was a five-star prospect in the 2025 class. Reaching the CFP would be a crowning achievement in the Freeze story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Nation's No. 1 Safety Predicted to Commit to Struggling SEC Powerhouse
Nation's No. 1 Safety Predicted to Commit to Struggling SEC Powerhouse originally appeared on Athlon Sports. To say that the Auburn Tigers have struggled since the days of Gus Malzahn would be an understatement. The last winning season in the program's history is held by Malzahn, who led Auburn to a 6-5 record in 2020. He also has the Tigers' last bowl game win, when he beat the Purdue Boilermakers 63-14 in the Music City Bowl. Since then, Auburn has had two head coaches in Bryan Harsin and Hugh Freeze. Harsin lasted two years with the program, and Freeze is in year three with an 11-14 record. Despite the recent struggles on the field, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong predicted Auburn to land No. 1 safety Bralan Womack. Womack is a four-star recruit and No. 1 safety in the Rivals300. He is a native of Brandon, Mississippi, and attends Hartfield Academy. The safety is listed at 6-foot-0.5, 200 pounds. Landing Womack would be a massive addition to Auburn's 2026 class, which has no five-star commits. The class is led by four-star receiver Jase Matthews, four-star edge rusher Jaquez Wilkes, four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris and four-star athlete Peyton Falzone. After one bowl game appearance and multiple losing seasons, Auburn enters a make-or-break year under Freeze. ESPN predicted how Auburn would do in 2025 and had the Tigers making either the Birmingham Bowl or the Gasparilla Bowl. On the other hand, Joel Klatt predicted that the Tigers could crash the College Football Playoff this season. Auburn last competed for a national title under Malzahn in 2013, losing 34-31 to the Florida State Seminoles. Freeze's push for the postseason begins on August 29 against the Baylor story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 17, 2025, where it first appeared.
