KKR to modernise Malaysia's infrastructure under 13MP for urban and rural areas
KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Ministry (KKR) will integrate cutting-edge technology into strategic infrastructure projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13), focusing on road networks, highways, bridges, and public facilities. In a statement today, KKR emphasised that MP13 is not just about physical development but also aims to uplift living standards for all Malaysians, ensuring equitable progress across urban and rural regions. 'KKR is committed to realising the MADANI government's vision for the people. We will enhance service delivery to ensure high-quality, sustainable, and safe infrastructure,' the ministry stated. As the national construction sector leader, KKR will expand the use of modern methods like Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the Industrialised Building System (IBS) to improve efficiency, quality, and reduce foreign labour dependency. Digitalisation efforts will also be prioritised through initiatives such as MyJalan, the Highway Network Development Plan, and the Road Accident Management System to optimise planning and maintenance. The ministry highlighted that these measures aim to deliver cost-efficient infrastructure by minimising project delays, which could otherwise increase national spending and defer public benefits. MP13, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, includes key projects like the Rantau Panjang–Sungai Golok bridge upgrade (Malaysia-Thailand link) and the Kalabakan–Simanggaris road (Malaysia-Indonesia connection). Other major developments include the Central Spine Road (Bentong to Kuala Krai), the Pan Borneo Highway completion in Sabah and Sarawak, and the Sarawak–Sabah Link Road. The Prime Minister also announced upgrades for major highways and 2,800 km of rural roads by 2030. 'MP13 is not just about infrastructure—it's about rebuilding hope and public trust in Malaysia's future,' KKR affirmed. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) is targeting RM4 million in transaction value during the five-day One District One Industry (SDSI) showcase at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said RM3 million is expected from PADANIAGA business matching activities, while RM1 million is projected from the entrepreneur financing initiative. The event, running from July 30, coincides with the Felda Settlers' Day celebration and the Rural Entrepreneurs Carnival (KUD) under the Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D). 'This is the first time KUSKOP is collaborating with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) and Felda to organise three large-scale national programmes concurrently,' Ewon said in a statement. He added that the combined effort aims to enhance synergy, particularly for SDSI entrepreneurs, with the carnival expected to attract two million visitors. The SDSI showcase serves as a commercialisation platform, featuring exhibitions and product sales that highlight each district's identity, including food and beverage, health products, handicrafts, and homestays. A total of 154 entrepreneurs nationwide are participating, with 14 state pavilions set up in MITEC's Hall 5, Level 2. 13MP to strengthen Perlis, Kedah as major cross-border trade hubs
KANGAR: The 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13) is expected to reinforce Perlis and Kedah's position as major industrial and logistics hubs linking cross-border trade between Malaysia and Thailand. Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) chief executive Datuk Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan said the logistics infrastructure projects announced under 13MP are essential to improving efficiency, reducing business operating costs and attracting more investment in export-oriented manufacturing within the Northern Region. "The Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) welcomes MP13's focus on logistics infrastructure development at the Perlis Inland Port (PIP) and the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah," he said in a statement to Bernama today. Mohamad Haris said this focus aligns with MP13's goal of strengthening the northern logistics corridor under the border development initiative through the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle, as well as boosting bilateral trade, particularly in high-technology products. He said that NCER is currently developing external infrastructure to support the PIP project, including the construction of the Bonded Road and the Railway Spurline and viaduct, under Packages 1 and 2, respectively. "The construction of Package 1, spanning 6.5km, has been fully completed, while Package 2 is 93.6 percent finished," he said. He said the PIP's location next to the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) in Padang Besar would create strong industrial-logistics synergies. "NCIA will continue working with the state government and relevant agencies to attract more high-quality investments to CVIA, in line with MP13's goal of balancing regional economic growth and strengthening rural development," he said. Several infrastructure projects to strengthen cross-border connectivity and trade, including upgrades to the PIP and ICQS complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam, will proceed under MP13, which was unveiled yesterday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. – Bernama
