Two ranked teams, Alabama and Mississippi State previously met back on Jan. 29 in Starkville in a game that ended up being a classic, one where the Crimson Tide escaped with an 88-84 victory. In that game, Alabama, led by Chris Youngblood with 23 points, went back-and-forth with the Bulldogs in the No. 4 vs. No. 14 matchup at the time, but Mississippi State was not without a star performance either, as guard Josh Hubbard went for 38 points on 14-of-28 shooting.
Set to meet once again in Tuscaloosa, Alabama comes into this matchup ranked as the nation's No. 6 team, while the Bulldogs enter at No. 24. Both teams are also fighting for SEC and NCAA Tournament seeding, as Alabama is sitting at 22-5 overall (11-3 in SEC), while Mississippi State is 19-8 overall (7-7 in SEC).

Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 3-star DE Matthew Nelson
Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 3-star DE Matthew Nelson The Oklahoma Sooners added another intriguing defensive prospect in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of defensive end Matthew Nelson. Nelson is the eighth player committed to the Sooners 2026 class and the fourth player on the defensive side of the ball. Just a few weeks ago, Brent Venables and the Sooners didn't have a player committed on defense. Venables and Jim Nagy have the ball rolling. Nelson received his Oklahoma offer back at the beginning of May, and not long after that, the Bryant, Arkansas product picked up offers from Mississippi State and Missouri. But the Sooners made a strong first impression and had him on campus this past weekend for his official visit. Despite an official visit with Tulane coming next week, he's pulled the trigger on committing to the Oklahoma Sooners. "After long and careful consideration, I'm officially shutting down my recruiting process," Nelson said on social media. "I have been blessed to be able to experience it, and I wouldn't want it to be any other way. Go Sooners!! He's the second defensive line prospect added to the class, joining four-star defensive tackle Brian Harris. After flying under the radar through his junior year, Nelson's recruitment began to heat up, and he's now considered a three-star prospect, according to Rivals. Nelson's length and his athleticism really stand out on tape. He displays fantastic effort working to the ball carrier even when the play runs away from him. Nelson displays great discipline, setting the edge. He plays with good power, showing the ability to pull offensive tackles off balance to get around them and to the quarterback. Nelson's quick off the line of scrimmage and plays with good leverage. He'll need to continue to add mass, but he has the frame to be able to bulk up and keep his athleticism and quickness. However, the Oklahoma Sooners added a good player in Matthew Nelson. More: Oklahoma Sooners 2026 recruiting commitment tracker Matthew Nelson's Highlights Watch Matthew Nelson's highlights on Hudl. Ex-Louisville star Russ Smith arrested for suspicion of DUI, reckless driving
Louisville Metro Police arrested a former Louisville basketball star early Sunday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol. Russ Smith, a member of the 2013 Louisville basketball team who won the NCAA Tournament that was later vacated, was stopped after police spotted him making a U-turn across multiple lanes and noticed his license plate tag had expired, the Courier Journal reported after viewing the arrest citation. Police detected a 'strong odor of alcoholic beverages' on Smith's breath when they first talked to him, and he failed a field sobriety test after he told officers that he drank 'two bourbon pours neat' before getting behind the wheel, according to the arrest citation. 3 Russ Smith was arrested early Sunday morning. Smith had a 0.073 blood alcohol content, but in the state of Kentucky, drivers can still be prosecuted if they have a BAC of above 0.04 but below 0.08 as long as there is other evidence to support the case. 'That fact may be considered, together with other competent evidence, in determining the guilt or innocence of the defendant,' according to the statute in the state. A police spokesperson told WDRB that 'we will allow the arrest slip to speak for itself,' when asked about Smith's BAC. Smith faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and having unregistered license plates. 3 Russ Smith drives to the basket during Louisville's game in March 2014.
