Eye on the U: A look at the Hurricanes' transfer additions. Plus Larry Blustein joins the show
The Miami Hurricanes were quite busy the past couple weeks.
Miami added eight players via the spring transfer portal window to bolster their roster and shore up a couple key positions heading into coach Mario Cristobal's fourth season at the helm. While a lot of the team's success will derive from how well quarterback Carson Beck performs in 2025, the cast around him getting better on paper certainly helps.
In the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez take a look at each of the eight newcomers and what they bring to the team. Afterward, Larry Blustein joins the show to give his take on the state of the Hurricanes.
Finally, we dive into the Hurricanes baseball team, which was on a bit of a run winning five consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference series before getting swept at Virginia last weekend. UM has itself in good position to make the NCAA tournament with one regular-season series and the ACC Tournament remaining.
(Editor's note: The show was recorded before the news that five-star Class of 2026 offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell committed to Miami. Read full coverage of that here.)

UNC Class of 2026 basketball recruit amongst best performers at Top 100 camp
UNC Class of 2026 basketball recruit amongst best performers at Top 100 camp Will this highly-touted Class of 2026 recruit don Carolina Blue in college? Despite UNC's inconsistencies from season-to-season since Hubert Davis took over as head coach, there's one area Hubert is proving to be a baller in: recruiting. Hubert signed at least one 5-star player – out of high school in each of North Carolina's past three recruiting classes. The Tar Heels snagged Elliot Cadeau in 2023, Drake Powell and Ian Jackson last season, plus they have power forward Caleb Wilson coming to Chapel Hill this year. UNC doesn't yet have a commitment in its 2026 recruiting class, but there are several outstanding offers. Recent efforts by the North Carolina coaching staff, though, show that a top goal is getting that first 2026 commitment. Hubert is directly recruiting 5-star point guard Taylen Kinney, the top-ranked player in Georgia and Class of 2026's 16th-overall ranked prospect. At the current NBPA Top 100 Camp in Rock Hill, S.C., which Tar Heel coaches are in attendance for, Kinney is being hailed as one of the top performers. "Day one saw Kinney dominate the competition," Trevor Andershock wrote. "The Kentucky native had his outside shot working in the two games, resulting in impressive production. With his size and athleticism, defenses have no chance to stop him when Kinney is hitting outside shots. That was the case on Wednesday. He has been traveling overseas for basketball events lately, but Kinney showed no ill effects of that jet lag on Wednesday." Keep in mind: Kinney is putting up these numbers against some of the top high school players in the country. Kinney is currently playing with Overtime Elite, which is an alternative to the pros, allowing high school players to prepare themselves for professional basketball. Can Hubert's strong recruiting efforts pay off yet again, this time in the form of landing Kinney? How the Tar Heels perform in their 2025-2026 season will go a long way towards shaping their 2026 class. The FIFA Club World Cup's Biggest Enemy Is Its Creator
On Saturday evening, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will kick off the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in Miami. Messi's star power alone should guarantee a sellout. But that's not what's happened. According to the Athletic, as of last week, 'tens of thousands of seats' were still available for the opening night of the knockout tournament between 32 of the world's best club teams. To fill those seats, FIFA is offering local Miami college students tickets that cost as little as $4 per seat. The lack of interest shouldn't come as a surprise. For years, FIFA has struggled to overcome a well-earned reputation for scandal, secrecy and a tendency to prioritize money over everything — including fans.
