Eye on the U: A look at the Hurricanes' transfer additions. Plus Larry Blustein joins the show
The Miami Hurricanes were quite busy the past couple weeks. Miami added eight players via the spring transfer portal window to bolster their roster and shore up a couple key positions heading into coach Mario Cristobal's fourth season at the helm. While a lot of the team's success will derive from how well quarterback Carson Beck performs in 2025, the cast around him getting better on paper certainly helps. In the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez take a look at each of the eight newcomers and what they bring to the team. Afterward, Larry Blustein joins the show to give his take on the state of the Hurricanes. Finally, we dive into the Hurricanes baseball team, which was on a bit of a run winning five consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference series before getting swept at Virginia last weekend. UM has itself in good position to make the NCAA tournament with one regular-season series and the ACC Tournament remaining. (Editor's note: The show was recorded before the news that five-star Class of 2026 offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell committed to Miami. Read full coverage of that here.)

Fernandez recap Miami's spring, mostly touching on Saturday's spring game, and preview what's to come with the transfer portal and beyond before the team reconvenes in late July. The two also touch quickly on the state of the men's basketball and baseball teams.

Eye on the U: Previewing the Miami Hurricanes' spring game
The Miami Hurricanes' slate of 15 spring practices will come to an end on Saturday when the team holds its spring game at Cobb Stadium on UM's campus. The game is slated to run from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will be the first and only full live look at the team after the media was allowed to view limited portions of practices (generally individual drills and very little 11 on 11) over the past month. There are certainly many facets to pay attention to, including the new-look defense under defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman and the potential emergence of key players (including the young wide receivers and an overhauled secondary to name two groups). On the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez preview what's to come on Saturday and how it could set the stage for what Miami chooses to do afterward before the team reconvenes in late July to prepare for the 2025 season that starts Aug. 31 against Notre Dame. McPherson and Fernandez also take a quick look at the state of the basketball team under first-year head coach Jai Lucas, who has already signed three transfers as he builds his first team almost completely from scratch.

Eye on the U: Early thoughts from spring football. Plus some basketball and baseball talk
Spring football is here! The Miami Hurricanes are a week into their month-long spring practice regiment as they try to build on last year's 10-3 season. There are a lot of new faces: Carson Beck at quarterback instead of Cam Ward, a brand new secondary led by a brand new defensive coordinator in Corey Hetherman, a lot of young receivers trying to make their case for playing time. There's a lot to unpack between now and the spring game on April 12. For now, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez recap the first week of camp on the latest episode of Eye on the U. They discuss early standouts, the latest on Beck as he continues rehabbing from elbow surgery and key story lines to follow. After that, McPherson and Fernandez take a look at some former Hurricanes who have elevated their stock through the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine as they prepare for next month's NFL Draft. The show wraps up with some basketball and baseball talk. The Hurricanes men's basketball team on Monday formally introduced new coach Jai Lucas, who has a tall task ahead of him in revamping a program that went from playing in the Final Four two years ago to winning just seven games this season. The baseball team is 12-6 entering Atlantic Coast Conference play following an up-and-down first month of the season.
