BSP plans to increase its tally to 30, chalks out poll strategy

) that is a major player in the Nagpur civic body polls, even emerging the third-largest party in the 2017 polls. With 10 seats under its belt, BSP is now gearing up to increase the tally to 30 and has chalked out a strategy for the same.
BSP leader Prakash Gajbhiye said, "A huge population resides in slums and lower-income areas within Nagpur city, and those in power have neglected this completely. I can show you so many places in Nagpur where there is no proper sewage system, no proper roads, and the water supply is also not regular. People have realised that BJP or Congress will never solve these problems; hence they will turn to BSP for that."
The party has also worked out their targeted seats in the NMC assembly constituencies, highlighting their preparedness.
Gajbhiye said, "Our maximum seats will come from North Nagpur, for which our target is 15. The next highest will be from South-West, where we hope to bag around seven seats. Then in the West and South, our target is three each. And for Central, it is two seats. Now, this is the minimum target, but we are confident of getting much more.
"
He added that BJP's strategy of regularisation of land and building pucca homes, which can help connect with voters, won't work in the polls.

"This scheme, to provide housing for the poor, was started by Behenji (Mayawati), so BJP is simply doing a copy and paste of that formula," said Gajbhiye.
Regarding Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), Gajbhiye said, "People now realise that VBA won't be able to have any impact on their lives. We have been representing Nagpurians' voices in the civic body for a long time, so we have a proven track record."
Their ace up the sleeve is party chief Mayawati herself. "We are planning for two major rallies in Maharashtra. One will be in Mumbai and the other in Nagpur. If Behenji holds a rally, then the entire voting dynamic changes at one stroke," said Gajbhiye.

Kolkata: A fresh political tussle has broken out between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the proposed renaming of Kolkata's iconic Sealdah Railway Station. While the Trinamool Congress wants the Sealdah station to be renamed after Swami Vivekananda, the West Bengal unit of the BJP wants it to be renamed after Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress have their own logic. According to BJP former state president in West Bengal and Union Minister of State, Dr Sukanta Majumdar, Sealdah station was denied the main transit point status for the Hindu refugees during the partition of undivided India. 'The man responsible for ensuring the proper livelihood of these Hindu refugees was Syama Prasad Mukherjee. So, in his memory as well as keeping in mind the significance of Sealdah station for the transit of refugees, the station should be named after him,' Majumdar said. However, Trinamool Congress state general secretary, Kunal Ghosh, has rejected Majumdar's logic. According to him, there is a port in West Bengal that is already named after Syama Prasad Mukherjee. There is no necessity for a station to be named after him. 'Rather, Sealdah has a direct link with Swami Vivekananda. After delivering his iconic speech at a religious conference in Chicago in the USA, he came to Sealdah station. So there is a direct link between him and the station. So the station should be named after him," Ghosh said. However, Majumdar admitted that naming Sealdah station after Syama Prasad Mukhopadhyay would not be easy, as the name change of any railway station in any state required the concurrence of the state government concerned. 'The station's name will be changed following the recommendation of the state government concerned. So I will request the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, that her government sends the proposal for renaming the station after Syama Prasad Mukherjee,' Majumdar said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday accused the BJP-led Central government of "weaponising" police against the INDIA bloc MPs instead of "addressing rot" in the electoral system, as "exposed" by Rahul Gandhi. He made the remarks after the Delhi Police today detained INDIA bloc MPs, for protesting against the poll body over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegation of "voter fraud" during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "The cowardly Narendra Modi Govt and a compromised Election Commission have completely lost the plot. Rahul Gandhi responds to Election Commission notices: ‘Attempt to distract from electoral irregularities'
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that the notices the Election Commission is sending him regarding his 'vote chori' allegation are meant to distract from the main issue of alleged irregularities in India's electoral rolls for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. "It is their (Election Commission) data. It is not my data that I will sign (an affidavit)... Put that data on your website and you will get to know. All this is just to distract from the issue. This has not just taken place in Bengaluru but several other constituencies too," Rahul Gandhi told reporters. The Congress MP was responding to the Election Commission's notices to him. The poll panel had urged Gandhi to declare the allegations under oath.
