BSP plans to increase its tally to 30, chalks out poll strategy
Nagpur: After BJP and Congress, it is the Bahujan Samaj Party (
BSP
) that is a major player in the Nagpur civic body polls, even emerging the third-largest party in the 2017 polls. With 10 seats under its belt, BSP is now gearing up to increase the tally to 30 and has chalked out a strategy for the same.
BSP leader Prakash Gajbhiye said, "A huge population resides in slums and lower-income areas within Nagpur city, and those in power have neglected this completely. I can show you so many places in Nagpur where there is no proper sewage system, no proper roads, and the water supply is also not regular. People have realised that BJP or Congress will never solve these problems; hence they will turn to BSP for that."
The party has also worked out their targeted seats in the NMC assembly constituencies, highlighting their preparedness.
Gajbhiye said, "Our maximum seats will come from North Nagpur, for which our target is 15. The next highest will be from South-West, where we hope to bag around seven seats. Then in the West and South, our target is three each. And for Central, it is two seats. Now, this is the minimum target, but we are confident of getting much more.
"
He added that BJP's strategy of regularisation of land and building pucca homes, which can help connect with voters, won't work in the polls.

"This scheme, to provide housing for the poor, was started by Behenji (Mayawati), so BJP is simply doing a copy and paste of that formula," said Gajbhiye.
Regarding Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), Gajbhiye said, "People now realise that VBA won't be able to have any impact on their lives. We have been representing Nagpurians' voices in the civic body for a long time, so we have a proven track record."
Their ace up the sleeve is party chief Mayawati herself. "We are planning for two major rallies in Maharashtra. One will be in Mumbai and the other in Nagpur. If Behenji holds a rally, then the entire voting dynamic changes at one stroke," said Gajbhiye.

CM exhorts students to protect public property
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday exhorted students to protect public property, saying these are collective assets and damaging them harm the nation. "Do not damage national property. If someone is doing so, stop them. If you feel powerless, report it. Share a photo, we will handle the rest and recover the damages. Public property is national property and a collective responsibility," he said. Speaking about the transformation of education in UP, Yogi said over the past 8 years, the condition and working of schools and secondary education has changed dramatically. "Before 2017, basic education was in decline and secondary education was marred by widespread cheating. Earlier govts introduced two major 'businesses' in UP, one of cheating and the other of transfer-posting. Exam centres were operated on a wholesale basis for cheating. External candidates filled out forms, and someone else appeared in their place for the exams. Simultaneously, transfer and posting became an entire industry. The BJP govt cracked down on these industries and brought in fair practices," he said. Yogi added that at exam centres, various mechanisms like CCTV surveillance, boundary walls, adequate infrastructure, and proper furniture, have been put in place to prevent cheating. "Exams that used to stretch over two to three months are now completed within 13-14 days," he said. Highlighting the state of recruitment in the state, the CM said over 8 lakh were given govt jobs across sectors. On June 15, 60,244 police personnel will be receiving appointment letters in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah. Among these, over 12,000 are women. Calling the result of the Board exams "surprising" where girls performed better than boys, the CM awarded Rs 1,00,000 in cash, a tablet, a certificate of appreciation, and a medal to students who ranked in the merit list. At the district level, meritorious students received Rs 21,000 in cash, a tablet, a certificate, and a medal. To the gold medalists of the National School Sports Competition, the govt awarded Rs 75,000 to gold winners, Rs 50,000 to silver and Rs 30,000 to bronze medalists. In team events, the prize money was Rs 35,000 for gold, Rs 25,000 for silver, and Rs 15,000 for bronze. The CM also laid the foundation stone for the new buildings of the UP Secondary Sanskrit Education Council, established in 2001, and its directorate. The new complex will cost Rs over 42 crore and will include a Sanskrit library, facilities for training, conversation and other programmes. A new building for the Government Girls Intermediate College will be constructed on Jagat Narayan Road in Lucknow under 'Project Alankar' at an outlay of Rs 48.92 crore. Alos, the govt has allocated Rs 10.36 crore for a new building of Government Girls Inter College, Malihabad. Around Rs 20 crore is being spent on two new Sanskrit schools with hostels in Chandauli and Bhadohi. The CM also announced an MoU between the secondary education department, Tata Nelco, and Japan's Yaskawa under which students will have the opportunity of learning skills along with academics. Under this initiative, the govt will establish design, robotics, and electronics labs in govt secondary schools, with an investment of Rs 162.72 crore. New Delhi: After a gap of two and a half years, the standing committee of got its chairperson and deputy chairperson, with BJP's Satya Sharma and Sunder Singh being elected to the respective positions on Thursday. It serves as the initial platform for examining administrative, monetary and operational matters. The committee holds the crucial role of preliminary examination and endorsement of proposals. Any proposal rejected at this stage does not advance to the house. The measure ensures that the house, under the mayor's leadership, can only deliberate on matters that have received prior recommendation from the standing committee.
