For the uninitiated, Achyut Potdar was not a trained actor; in fact, he entered films at the age of 44 without any formal training. After completing his graduation, he worked as a professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, before enlisting in the Indian Army. Less than a year after his marriage, Potdar joined the Army through the Emergency Commission. When his tenure ended, he retired in 1967 with the rank of captain. He later worked for 25 years as an executive at Indian Oil and retired in 1992 at the age of 58. While at Indian Oil, Potdar actively participated in theatrical projects, plays, and cultural activities, which nurtured his passion for acting.
