Police warn against illegal motorcycle convoys
This comes after a video went viral showing a group of motorcyclists travelling in convoy on a highway, escorted by riders in yellow safety vests.
Federal Police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the incident is believed to have occurred at Km285 of the North-South Expressway heading south, near Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
It involved a movement from Kuala Lumpur towards the southern part of the country.
Yusri said any group or convoy movement must notify the department in advance to coordinate their journey in the interest of safety for all road users.
"If the motorcycle convoy is not escorted by traffic personnel, it must comply with all existing traffic regulations.
"No use of outriders or marshals is permitted for convoy movements," he said in a statement today.
Yusri said motorcyclists must ride responsibly, cautiously, and with full attention on the road, in accordance with Rule 5 of the Road Traffic Rules (Rule 42) LN 165/59.
As a general rule, all road users must cooperate with one another in traffic, referring to Rule 1 of the Road Traffic Rules (Rule 42) LN 165/59.
"Meanwhile, any vehicle moving at a slower speed must keep as close as possible to the left side of the road, and at all times drive in a manner that does not obstruct faster-moving vehicles, in line with Rule 4 of the Road Traffic Rules LN 166/59.
"Obstructing the movement of other vehicles may result in enforcement action under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987, where if convicted, the offender may be fined not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM5,000, or face imprisonment of up to one year, or both," he added.
Yusri advised all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, to always cooperate while in traffic, whether on highways, federal roads, state roads or municipal roads.
The video has been circulating on social media and has garnered more than 6,000 likes.

NIBONG TEBAL: A lorry driver was arrested for reckless driving during a police chase and for obstructing authorities from inspecting his vehicle during an integrated operation on Saturday night. Jay added that the suspect tested negative for drugs during a urine screening and that the vehicle had been seized. The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. "We want to remind the public that reckless driving is a serious offence that can result in fatal accidents, and we will not hesitate to take stern action," he said. Jay said police would intensify enforcement efforts, particularly operations targeting dangerous drivers, to ensure the safety of all road users.

Melaka police seek public help in dog abuse case at Krubong
MELAKA: Police are seeking public assistance in an animal cruelty case involving a severely injured dog found in the Krubong industrial area. The dog suffered extensive injuries, including fur and skin stripped from parts of its body and head. Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit confirmed receiving a report at 2.43 pm today. He stated the incident likely occurred last Friday around 3 pm after a tip-off from the public.
