Rockford police arrest armed man fleeing officers at Airbnb party
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police, while breaking up a party at an Airbnb rental, arrested 'repeat felony offender' Jerry Rockette, 25, who reportedly ran from officers while armed.
According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were called to the 4500 block of Dogwood Circle around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 19th.
As the party was being cleared, officers with the department's Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team attempted to speak with Rockette when he fled the scene.
He was apprehended and a loaded gun was found on his person, according to authorities.
Rockette has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, No Valid FOID, and Resisting Arrest.
He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.

Police: Rockford man injures officer during weapons arrest
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Pierre Watson, 31, for weapons possession by a felon, among other charges. On June 1, around 1:41 a.m., officers pulled over Watson's Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he did not use a turn signal, according to court records. Authorities determined Watson had a suspended driver's license in Illinois. When officials approached the car, they could smell cannabis and saw an open bottle of Hennessy. The suspect was taken into custody but attempted to run away, causing an officer to be injured. Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded pistol. Watson was previously convicted of intending to deliver controlled substances in 2017 and 2020. He is charged with possession of a firearm without a FOID, transporting an open alcohol container, unlawful possession of cannabis, driving on a suspended license, driving an uninsured vehicle, improper turn signal use, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm by a repeat felon, resisting an officer. Federal budget cuts threaten essential programs in Rockford, mayor says
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara emphasized concerns regarding how federal budget cuts will affect the city at Monday's 'State of the City' address. The annual address was given in City Council chambers, where McNamara said, 'Federal funding pauses, shifts in priorities, and changes in grant programs will not only impact our local government, but it will impact our nonprofits, our businesses, and many, many residents who rely on those funds.' 'So let me be clear. If the federal government does cut programs such as Headstart, LIHEAP and housing programs, the city simply cannot cover. The costs in our community will suffer. our residents, Rockfordians will suffer,' he added. McNamara said the city continues to see growth in several areas, including population, housing, and property values. 'Property values have grown by more than 50%, and they are at our city's highest point in our history. And at the same time, property values are up. Our property tax rate is the lowest it's been since 1984. We are actually we are the only major taxing body in Winnebago County that has actually reduced its property tax levy over the last ten years. Pecatonica man dies in early morning crash on Winnebago County highway
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A Pecatonica man was killed Monday morning after a crash at US Highway 20 near Meridian Road. According to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, Thomas Walker, Jr., 41, was traveling eastbound in a pickup truck around 1:15 a.m. when he left the roadway and crashed. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy concluded he expired from blunt trauma to the chest due to the crash.
