2025 Audi A3 soldiers on with minor revisions
The changes to the enhanced A3 are subtle. You wonder if they could have done more. Look closely to spot the flatter, wider single-frame grille, larger intake sections, and refreshed headlamp design with pixel elements. An updated rear bumper execution incorporates a diffuser-like element, contributing to a sportier feel. Our test unit wore a decal package, with black inserts depicting the Audi logo.
The updates inside are similarly modest. And in some respects, unwelcomed — like the smaller, cheaper-looking gear selector nib, replacing the elegant metallic unit previously deployed. Look out for new decorative inlays, additional lighting and the option of microfibre upholstery material designed to look like suede, complementing the leatherette seat covering. Our test unit had fabric inlays instead, with a racy, red checkered pattern.
We should also note the rollout of the new Audi emblem: gone is the chrome-faced, 3D device previously used. Again, it looks much cheaper and probably brings a cost saving across the board. We observed the same when Volkswagen went the route of flat 2D emblems on its cars.
Audi has rationalised the A3 model line, simplifying trim lines and adding more in terms of standard fare.
The basic iterations have fallen away completely, leaving the S-Line as the default model in both sedan and Sportback versions, with a single engine choice on offer. That is the 35 TFSI, which uses the familiar 1.4l, four-cylinder, turbocharged-petrol unit. This is linked to an eight-speed automatic.
Above the S-Line is a Black Edition trim which, as the name implies, adds a darker aesthetic theme to the mix. The S3 derivative has been culled.

New Volvo SA boss Locke says brand is here to stay with electrified future
Last year there were 1,257 EVs sold in SA, only 0.24% of the market, as consumers continue to be turned off by their high prices, long charging times and a limited charging network. However, Volvo has done relatively well with its new EX30 electric crossover that was launched in SA in February 2024. It was the brand's best-selling model last year and the country's most popular EV, at 406 units, nearly double that of its closest competitor, the BMW iX3's 221 sales. Volvo SA sold 1,299 new cars in 2023 when its range was primarily made up of ICE models, led by the XC40 mild hybrid that sold 675 units with an average of 108 a month. In 2024 the brand grew to 1,431 sales, averaging 119 units a month, with the EX30 its most popular model ahead of the XC40. However, in 2025 Volvo's local sales have dipped to an average of 75 units a month, and the company has had a challenging time globally with an operating loss and sales falling 9% in the first six months. Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, said demand remained under pressure from the macroeconomic environment, tariff-related uncertainties and tougher competition. Locally, Locke said the brand has a way to go to recover sales numbers. To incentivise customer adoption of its BEVs, Volvo offers new owners two years of free public charging, a GridCars home wall box and 10GB of Vodacom data per month for three years. The wall box enables faster charging compared to a standard plug, and the 24-month ownership package provides owners with a R12,000 charging voucher linked to a GridCars charge card. Locke intends to further bolster Volvo's local presence with the launch of new models. After the introduction of the EX90 in March and last week's launch of the EX30 Cross Country, other new Volvos on the horizon are the ES90 luxury electric sedan, arriving in the first quarter of 2026, and the electric EX60 midsize SUV in 2026 or 2027. The new EX30 Cross Country, as the name suggests, is an adventure-focused vehicle with a higher ground clearance than the EX30 and a more off-road design. Locke believes owning such a vehicle is becoming more feasible as the DC fast-charging network grows in SA. He said Volvo was committed to its electrification strategy, with hybrids as the holding vehicles until the brand completes its move to EVs. Volvo had planned to have a fully electric range globally by 2030, but due to the slowdown in global EV growth it has revised this to having 90% of its range electrified (either full electrics or plug-in hybrids) by that date, with the other 10% made up of mild hybrids.

Lamborghini Fenomeno is brand's most powerful hypercar
Power comes from an upgraded 6.5 l V12 engine producing 614kW at 9,250rpm and 725Nm at 6,750rpm, thanks to a redesigned valvetrain. The naturally aspirated screamer is paired with three electric motors, one integrated into the double-clutch eight-speed transmission and two mounted directly to the front axle. Energy is supplied by a larger 7kWh battery (up from 3.8kWh) built into the central tunnel. Together, the hybrid system delivers a total output of 795kW, enough to launch the Fenomeno from 0–100km/h in a claimed 2.4 seconds, 0–200km/h in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of more than 350km/h. To keep performance in check, Lamborghini has fitted its advanced CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic brakes, similar to those used on the SC63 LMDh prototype. While the Revuelto carves up corners with adaptive dampers, the Fenomeno goes back to (relative) basics with manually adjustable units that, according to the carmaker, can be 'calibrated to allow the perfect stance and setup to be achieved for the track and type of use'.

Lamborghini Fenomeno is brand's most powerful hypercar
Lamborghini unveiled its new Fenomeno hypercar at Monterey Car Week. Limited to 30 examples, one of which will remain in the Italian carmaker's museum, the exotic machine is based on Revuelto underpinnings and takes its name from a fearsome Mexican fighting bull. It also happens to be the fastest, most powerful Lamborghini ever produced. Clothed in bespoke lightweight carbon fibre bodywork, the Fenomeno bristles with dramatic angles, streamlined shapes and gaping air intakes inspired by race cars such as the Huracán GT3. The visual drama is amplified by a downforce-generating S-Duct system, a tapering longtail, an active rear wing with three positions, spindly Y-shaped LED taillights and a huge hexagonal exhaust outlet. Filling the arches are centre-locking forged alloy wheels with a turbine design. They're staggered in size (21" front, 22" rear) and fitted with Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres. A slightly smaller, track-orientated set (20" front, 21" rear) is available as an option and features more aggressive Bridgestone rubber. Inside the Fenomeno retains much of the Revuelto's familiar cabin architecture, but with unique touches. These include more liberal use of lightweight carbon fibre on the centre console, door panels and bucket seats. The latter were designed specifically for the Fenomeno, as were the air vents in the carbon-fibre instrument cluster, produced using 3D printing technology. A model-specific ambient lighting system further emphasises the spaceship-like forms of the passenger compartment, enhancing the on-board experience. The new Lamborghini Fenomeno is priced at around €3m (R61.7m), and all 29 customer cars have been sold.
