Vodafone Idea launches ₹1,601 REDX Family plan with unlimited 4G, 5G data
Vodafone Idea
on Wednesday launched its first REDX Family postpaid plan priced at ₹1,601 per month for two members. India's third-largest telecom carrier is offering unlimited 4G and
5G
data and international roaming with this plan as it looks to drive adoption of its fifth-generation (5G) network and reduce customer churn to its private sector rivals.
The REDX Family plan also comes bundled with a host of premium travel, lifestyle and entertainment benefits.
'With the launch of REDX Family, Vi is redefining the postpaid experience by breaking away from the industry norm of offering limited data quotas or restricted benefits to secondary members in a family plan,' the telco said in an official statement.
Vi added that its REDX Family plan, in an industry-first, will provide secondary customers with the same data benefits as the primary customer. 'This means that the primary and secondary members of the Vi REDX Family Plan will enjoy unlimited data and have access to a suite of premium benefits,' the telco said.
The launch of the plan comes close on the heels of its rival,
Bharti Airtel
, reporting postpaid net additions of 0.7 million in Q1FY26, taking its total postpaid user base, including IoT and M2M connections, to 71.23 million.
Vi ₹1601 REDX Family plan benefits
The plan offers both primary and secondary members with unlimited 5G/4G data, unlimited voice calls, and 3,000 SMS per month. Any additional paid secondary members added at ₹299 per member will also enjoy the same benefits.
It provides bundled access to India's top OTT platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, and SonyLIV.
Travel and lifestyle benefits include a 6-month subscription to Swiggy One, four complimentary airport lounge accesses every year, and a complimentary 7-day International Roaming (IR) pack worth ₹2,999 annually to stay connected on the go. The plan also offers an annual 25% discount worth ₹750 on a second IR pack, which can be used by either of the members.
Device Security Benefits: The plan also includes one-year Norton Device Security protection. Further, with Vi Priority, REDX customers can get 24x7 dedicated customer care, priority handling at stores, and doorstep SIM delivery for senior citizens.

Sunil Mittal to sell 0.8% Bharti Airtel stake to raise up to ₹9,300 crore
The family office of Sunil Mittal is set to sell a 0.8 per cent stake in Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel on Friday to raise up to $1.06 billion, or Rs 9,300 crore, via block deals. The sale proceeds are likely to be channelled towards the purchase of a stake in Haier India, said people aware of the details. According to the term sheet seen by Business Standard, Indian Continent Investment (ICIL), a promoter entity, will sell 50 million shares at Rs 1,862 per share—a 3.15 per cent discount to Thursday's closing price of Rs 1,924. The sale will reduce ICIL's stake in Bharti Airtel to 1.67 per cent from the current 2.47 per cent. Promoters presently hold a 51.25 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel, while Singapore-based Singtel owns 28.3 per cent. This is the second time ICIL is selling a stake in Bharti Airtel in the past year. In February, the promoter entity sold a 0.84 per cent stake—or 51 million shares—for Rs 8,485 crore ($976 million). A fourth of the shares were acquired by group company Bharti Telecom Ltd, which holds a 40.47 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel. The second promoter stake sale comes as Airtel founder Sunil Mittal is in talks to acquire a 49 per cent stake in Haier India, the Indian arm of the Chinese consumer appliances major. Mittal, along with global private equity giant Warburg Pincus, has been in discussions with Haier regarding a valuation. According to media reports last month, the proposed deal value is pegged at Rs 6,000 crore, down from an earlier estimate of $2 billion. Last year, Bharti Enterprises acquired a 24.5 per cent stake in the UK's BT Group from Altice UK for approximately $4 billion, in October 2024. The deal was executed via Bharti's subsidiary, Bharti Global, using Bharti Televentures UK Limited to facilitate the acquisition. Bharti raised $1.8 billion in debt from Barclays to help fund the transaction. A portion of the stake—9.99 per cent—was acquired via open market purchases. The remaining 14.51 per cent was to be acquired following regulatory approval, which was granted in December 2024 by UK authorities.

Bad news for Airtel users? Sunil Mittal's company sees opportunity to increase…, says ‘rich are paying…'
Bharti Airtel sees potential in increasing tariffs for data services, as it believes the richer are currently underpaying while the poor need not pay more, reported PTI citing senior official. Speaking during the company's Q1 earnings call for the current financial year, Bharti Airtel Vice-Chairman and MD Gopal Vittal said the company has approached the government seeking relief on adjusted gross revenue (AGR). He also urged that Airtel be granted the same benefits extended to other telecom operators without directly naming Vodafone Idea. Why Airtel Sees Scope In Raising Tariff For Data Services? Talking about the business growth, Vittal said that the company's focus is to improve customer mix and continue to sustain postpaid and smartphone customers upgrade on the network. Vittal said that he sees scope in raising tariff for data services as it is very low in India when compared to even markets that have a low per capita income. 'The architecture of pricing in India is quite skewed. At the entry level itself or just above the entry level, you get so much data allowance, calling and messaging, that you really don't have any reason to upgrade. It's just an unfortunate situation where people who can afford to pay, the rich, are paying less and the poor, you know, we don't need to charge the poor anymore,' Bharti Airtel Vice-Chairman and MD Gopal Vittal said. He was replying to a question on tariff during the company's earnings call for the first quarter of the current fiscal. A customer needs to pay Rs 199 for a month-long connection which comes with unlimited local, STD, roaming calls and 2GB data limit. By paying Rs 100 more a subscriber of Airtel can get 1 GB data per day and it goes up to 3 GB data per day with plans starting from Rs 449 onwards. Vittal said if India had a more sensible pricing architecture like Indonesia ARPU (average revenue per user) would have been substantially higher than where the country's telecom industry is at present without any pain to customers at the low end. What Is Bharti Airtel's ARPU? As per UK-based data price information platform average data price in India was around 16 cents while in Indonesia it was around 28 cents in 2023. Bharti Airtel India operations average revenue per user (ARPU), a key matrix to determine a telecom operator's growth, in India increased to Rs 250 during the June 2025 quarter under review compared to Rs 211 in the same period a year ago. The mobile data consumption on Airtel's India network increased by 13.4 per cent to 26.9 GB per customer per month. The customer base of Airtel's Home Services segment, which includes fixed broadband services, grew 37.7 per cent on YoY basis to 1.09 crore but the ARPU in the segment declined by 6.1 per cent to Rs 537 in June 2025 quarter. Vittal said that the company's capex are going into fiber and core networks. He expressed dissatisfaction with experience on the WiFi services and said that the company is making investment to fix it. 'We are not happy with some of the issues that we're facing on experience relating to our transport, hygiene, and infrastructure. A lot of work is going on there to fix that so that our churn goes down. It's still very good. I would say, industry beating but we still need to do a better job,' he said. (With Inputs From PTI)
