Cabinet to discuss paper on Bukit Merah water transfer project, says Perak MB
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the paper took into account requests and comments from the state government because the water supply is the state's right and knows the best course of action for the project.
"The implementation process also needs to give priority to contractors in the state. We have decided that the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry should agree to the collaboration of the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) and Gamuda Bhd as implementers, taking into account the involvement of local small contractors," he said after the Customer Day programme at Teluk Intan Municipal Council Hall in Langkap here on Monday (Aug 11).
Saarani said the RM6.2bil water transfer project from Sungai Perak to Bukit Merah, which was implemented through a joint venture between PKNPk and Gamuda, would provide economic benefits to the people of the state.
According to Saarani, the project alignment was determined as a result of a series of workshops involving state government representatives to ensure its implementation meets the state's water needs.
He said the project would benefit the agricultural irrigation system in northern Perak and meet the water needs of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (Kigip) in the Kerian district.
"I hope this project can be expedited because we want to solve the problem of agricultural irrigation in the north and help with Kigip's water needs.
"If there is a surplus (of water), then we will consider selling water to Penang," he said.
Last July, Gamuda Bhd through a joint venture with PKNPk was given a mandate by the state government to design, build and operate a water treatment and distribution facility located in Kerian.
The project will supply treated water to Kigip while the surplus will be channelled to Penang.
It will be implemented through privatisation, where the agreement is expected to be finalised within 90 days, with a minimum concession period of 40 years and is expected to begin operating by 2030. – Bernama

Malaysians' Duty To Respect Jalur Gemilang
IPOH, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Every Malaysian who understands the meaning of a sovereign and independent country has a duty to respect the Jalur Gemilang flag, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said. Respecting the Jalur Gemilang flag is not a question of race, skin colour, religion or party affiliation, he added. "When we fly the Jalur Gemilang, let's do it properly and with respect, not upside down, don't let it get worn or torn. "If it's put up wrongly, let's correct it together, if there are those who don't understand, let's explain. This is how we show we understand and care,' he said during his speech at the Perak-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign here tonight. He said respecting the Jalur Gemilang flag showed respect for the country as the flag represented the country and stood for its dignity, history and the future of all Malaysians. "Every time it (the Jalur Gemilang flag) flies high, let us cheer with our spirit, and remind ourselves that we are united under one flag, we fight under one banner, and we bear this flag as we continue to blaze ahead to build our future,' he added. Saarani reminded the public that all Malaysians need to commemorate the National Day celebrations as a way to live their lives in peace, unity and to build a country with all their strength and capabilities. "Don't let our independence be just a date on the calendar, let it live in our every heartbeat. As we enjoy the gifts of peace, let us be truly grateful and thankful,' he added. There were various activities held during the launch since the afternoon, including exhibitions, a Rahmah Sale, a children's costume contest as well as booths offering services from various agencies, along with performances by local artistes, including Zamani Siam.

PM Anwar urges stern action against threats to nation's stability, including bullying
Anwar says that democracy remains the cornerstone of the country's governance and warned that extremist behaviour, arrogance, and incivility must be stopped through a united effort across all sectors. – Bernama photo PUTRAJAYA (Aug 15): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on Malaysia's enforcement agencies to take firm and decisive action against all forms of threats to the nation's stability, including bullying, criminal intimidation, and acts of violence. He said that democracy remains the cornerstone of the country's governance and warned that extremist behaviour, arrogance, and incivility must be stopped through a united effort across all sectors. '… bullying, degrading others based on race, lineage, skin colour, or any basis, must and shall be stopped with the full force of our collective will,' he said in his address at the 20th edition of the Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam (MAPPA XX) gathering here today. The annual event serves as a key platform for the Prime Minister to engage directly with civil servants and communicate his aspirations for the nation. Also present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as Cabinet ministers, including Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Director-General of Public Service (KPPA) Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz were in attendance. -The Prime Minister's remarks come amid growing concerns about social cohesion, inclusivity, and rising intolerance in the public sphere. Citing recent incidents such as the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir and the Jalur Gemilang blunder, Anwar said certain quarters are exploiting these issues to raise the political temperature in the country. As such, he said clear directives have been given to enforcement bodies to take appropriate action, including against high-profile individuals or political figures. 'Firm action must and shall be taken. If there are individuals entrusted with responsibility but unwilling to act, let me know. We will replace them with those of strong principles. 'This is not a popularity contest. It's not about who can attract more attention. This is about saving the country,' he stressed. Anwar also reminded the audience of the dangers of inaction, referring to past national tragedies and racial tensions that began with minor provocations. 'We've seen the seeds of division before. Today, it may be a flag, but before this, it was fake news and hoaxes. We must not allow this. We cannot let it happen again,' he said. – Bernama Anwar Ibrahim bullying national threat stern action
