'Same Ball, Same Six': Sanju Samson Lights Up Nets, Teases IPL Return
Last Updated:
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson geared up for a potential comeback on May 18 with a brutal assault during the nets.
An exhibition of ferocious hitting during a net session may have set in stone Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson's comeback ahead of the team's next Indian Premier League game. The Royals hinted at the full-time skipper's return following an injury-forced absence with a clip of him going ablaze in an open net at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium before their clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, May 18.
Entering beast mode against the spinners and pacers available during the Royals' net session, Samson played some mesmerising strokes, including a definite maximum towards the mid-wicket area against RR's backup seamer Ashok Sharma. As Sharma walked back to his mark, he was heard saying on the mic 'kal bhi yeh chakka khaya tha maine, same ball same chakka (yesterday also I got hit for the same six in the nets by you. Same ball same six)."

Samson's delightful batting in the clip has raised speculations of him making a return for the Royals' last few games in what has been a disappointing campaign for the skipper and his team. The elegant right-hander kickstarted the tournament with finger injury troubles that reduced his participation in RR's first three games to an 'Impact Player' as the BCCI's physios barred him from wicketkeeping.
In Samson's absence, middle-order batter Riyan Parag was appointed captain.
After being cleared to play at the start of April, Samson made his comeback with the league game against the Kings on April 5. But his return was short-lived as only two matches later, the 30-year-old went down with an abdominal strain picked up during the match against the Delhi Capitals on April 16. Parag has since been the stand-in captain for the inaugural season champions, who have faced a lacklustre run in the tournament.
Unable to stitch together consistent performances and handle pressure during critical phases, the Royals have seen multiple close games slip out of their hands and suffered nine defeats in their twelve league games. Their one-run loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders before the week-long tournament halt summed up the Royals' journey – so near and yet so far.

Bold claim! These 3 uncapped stars will 'definitely' make India's T20 World Cup squad
Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar NEW DELHI: Former top-order batter Robin Uthappa believes that three uncapped, explosive youngsters — Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi — will "definitely" be in contention for a place in India's squad for their T20 World Cup title defence at home next year. The recently concluded 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw franchises unearth several promising talents. While some emerged as prospects for the future, a few made a strong case for immediate inclusion in the national T20I setup. Punjab Kings' dynamic opening pair, Priyansh and Prabhsimran, turned heads with their fearless and aggressive batting throughout the tournament. Joining them in the spotlight was 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who opened for Rajasthan Royals and made headlines with his blistering knocks that combined power with maturity. The rise of these young talents has created a healthy selection dilemma for India as they look to finalise their top order for the marquee tournament next year. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom have been out of the T20I setup for over a year, are still in the mix. In their absence, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have formed a new and successful opening partnership. According to Uthappa, India should use the remaining T20 internationals ahead of the tournament to fine-tune their squad and ensure full fitness among key players. Fitness will play a key role -- you want a fully fit squad going into a World Cup, and I'm sure that's something the selectors and management will be closely monitoring," he added. Prabhsimran had an impressive campaign, scoring 549 runs in 17 matches at an average of 32.29 and a strike rate of over 160. He notched up four half-centuries, with a best of 91, and finished as the eighth-highest run-scorer of the season. RCB moves Karnataka High Court to get criminal case in connection with Chinnaswamy stampede quashed
Royal Challengers Bengaluru and event management company DNA Entertainment had been named in an FIR registered by the Bengaluru Police following a stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 dead and several more injured. read more Royal Challengers Bengaluru had been named as the first accused in the FIR registered by Bengaluru Police in connection with the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on 4 June. PTI Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have on Monday moved the Karnataka High Court to get the criminal case registered against them in connection with the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium last week quashed. A separate petition has been filed by DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited, the organiser of the felicitation event at the iconic venue a day after RCB won their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Royal Challengers Sports Limited (RCSL), the company that owns Royal Challengers Bengaluru, have claimed they have been falsely implicated in the case. In their petition, RCSL has stated that it had clearly mentioned on social media that limited passes would be available for the felicitation event, and that pre-registration was mandatory for those who intended to attend the event, even for free passes. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD RCSL added that the gates were supposed to open by 1.45 pm but remained shut until 3 pm, which caused a crowd surge. DNA Entertainment says lack of police deployment to blame In its petition, DNA Entertainment contended that the stampede was the result of a shortage of police officers to manage a large crowd that was expected to gather after RCB's historic victory. It claimed that a majority of the police personnel had been stationed at the Vidhana Soudha, leaving the Chinnaswamy where the crowd was to gather in a vulnerable state. DNA Entertainment added that it had managed a much larger crowd while successfully organising an open-top bus parade for the Indian cricket team at Mumbai's Marine Drive last year after the Rohit Sharma-led side won the T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean. Bengaluru Police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and criminal negligence a day after 11 people had died and up to 75 were injured in a stampede that broke out outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB's victory celebration. RCB were named as the first accused in the FIR that was registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station, with DNA Entertainment and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) named as the second and third accused respectively. The High Court is slated to hear both petitions as well as the one filed by RCB marketing and revenue head Nikhil Sosale, who had been arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of Friday and has since challenged his arrest as arbitrary and illegal. KSCA officials, meanwhile, had been granted conditional interim relief from police action. Two senior officials – secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam – however, have since resigned from their posts citing 'moral responsibility'.
