Sharda University Student Suicide: Victim's Father Alleges Mental Pressure By Faculty Members

News1820-07-2025
A second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida died by suicide, alleging harassment and humiliation by faculty members.
The father of a second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida, who died by suicide on Monday, said she was under intense psychological stress due to the way certain faculty members treated her.
The body of the student was found in the hostel room of the university, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Knowledge Park Police Station. The deceased student accused her teachers of harassment and humiliation in a suicide note.
Following the incident, tensions escalated on campus as students staged protests, demanding accountability from the college authorities. A heated exchange also broke out between police personnel and protesting students.
Seven people, including six university staff, have been booked in the case, and two faculty members named in the suicide note have been arrested.
What Did The FIR Say?
The student had complained to her father about being repeatedly humiliated in class by faculty members and threatened with academic consequences, according to the FIR seen by the Hindustan Times.
The family told police that the student's father visited the university on July 14 after her daughter's complaint, and personally met the Dean, HOD and other faculty members, who assured him that she would not be harassed further.
'My daughter was under immense mental pressure because of how she was treated by certain faculty members. Despite my meeting with the university officials just days before, no action was taken. They gave verbal assurances but continued to harass her," the victim's father said.
The student was reportedly told that her work would not be approved and she would be barred from exams. The next day, she took the extreme step. Her father said she was 'tortured" and evidence regarding her death was also 'destroyed".
The university has not issued any official statement in connection with the case yet. The incident comes days after a college student in Odisha's Balasore district died after setting herself on fire, allegedly over harassment by a teacher.

Fake robbery busted with shop worker, 2 more arrested in Old Delhi

Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) A fake robbery involving over Rs 6 lakh was exposed by police with the arrest of three men, including an employee of a Delhi shopkeeper, an officer said on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Rahul, a 24-year-old cash collector at the shop, and his two accomplices — Dharmender alias Aryan, 22, who is Rahul's friend, and Rishu Verma, 26, he said. 'On July 26, a PCR call was received regarding a robbery. The complainant, Rahul, told police that while he was on his way to Sadar Bazar from Lahori Gate with a bag containing around Rs 7 lakh in cash, he was robbed at gunpoint near Ishwar Bhawan around 3.40 pm by three men," the officer said. Rahul also claimed that he was slashed with a blade. Police found discrepancies in his statement and the cut in his t-shirt and his arm self-inflicted, the officer added. A scan of more than 100 CCTV cameras revealed that Rahul was accompanied by two men and was seen handing over the cash bag to them near Naya Bazar before returning alone to make the PCR call. 'During sustained interrogation, Rahul confessed to conspiring with his childhood friend Dharmender and associate Rishu to fake the robbery and misappropriate the money collected for his employer," he said. The accused were tracked to Gauripur in Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, from where they were arrested late Monday night while travelling in a car. The three had planned to flee to Kedarnath, the officer said. Police recovered Rs 4.14 lakh in cash from their possession, and Rs 1.5 lakh in Dharmender's bank account, and another Rs 1 lakh from his house. An additional Rs 50,000 was recovered from a taxi driver hired for the Kedarnath trip. A mobile phone worth Rs 40,000, purchased using the stolen money, was also seized, police said. The motorcycle used in the offence, registered in the name of Dharmender's father, was impounded. ‘Relieved, rightly dealt': Pahalgam attack widow welcomes LeT commanders' killing

Aishanya Dwivedi, wife of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, has expressed relief over the killing of three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists allegedly involved in plotting the April 22 attack that left 26 people dead. The three were shot dead by security forces in an encounter near Srinagar on Monday. Aishanya Dwivedi, wife of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, said she would not be watching the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket match, calling for a public boycott. (Sourced) In her statement to Hindustan Times on Tuesday, Dwivedi said she felt 'relieved' that the terrorists were not captured alive. 'They didn't show mercy to anyone, and they deserved none,' she said. 'The rest will be hunted down and dealt with the same way.' Dwivedi also said she would not be watching the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket match, calling for a public boycott. 'Only three months have passed since 26 people were killed. And some people want to play cricket? Is a match more valuable than those lives?' she said, urging citizens to stand with the families of the victims. She added that public sentiment should not favour celebrations with a country 'under whose shelter such attacks are planned.'

Teacher held for obscene video call to male student on social media

Mumbai, Jul 29 (PTI) Police on Tuesday arrested a 35-year-old woman teacher for allegedly making an obscene video call to a minor male student on a social media platform in Navi Mumbai, an official said on Tuesday. The Koparkhairne police took action against the teacher after the boy informed his parents about her act, he said. The parents lodged a complaint at the Koparkhairane police station, based on which case was registered against her under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against her, he said. 'After that, the accused teacher was arrested. The court then remanded her in police custody for one day," the official said, adding that the police were trying to find out if the teacher had indulged in similar acts with any other student.
