Double standards of Centre and State govt. exposed one more time, alleges KTR
HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has ridiculed the double standards of the NDA government and the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), stating that they are not acting on the sinking of the coffer dam of the Polavaram project for the second time. In a statement, Mr. Rao said on Saturday that the NDSA had not taken up investigation into the washing away of the Polavaram cofferdam in 2020 that happened for the first time, even after being asked to go into the matter. The NDA government gave national project status to Polavaram and funded its construction - but is not looking into the quality aspects of construction, he said. During the run-up to the last Assembly elections in Telangana, a few piers of the Medigadda Barrage of Kaleshwaram project sank and damaged the structure under suspicious circumstances, but neither the BJP leaders nor those of the Congress, who had been indulging in mudslinging on Kaleshwaram project continuously, and terming it as 'kuleshwaram' (a collapsed project) repeatedly - had raised an issue on Polavaram, Mr. Rao said. He sought to know if the BJP and the Congress have the guts to term Polavaram as 'kulavaram' since its coffer dam was washed away once and sunk for the second time. In the second instance, it sunk for 10 meters width and about 8 meters deep, and the Andhra Pradesh government had taken up repairs on a war-footing silently, he said. On the other hand, the 'foolishness' of the Congress government is preventing it from taking up repairs on Medigadda Barrage and in giving water to the large ayacut depending on waters lifted from the point, even 20 months after coming to power, he said. Further, the NDSA proved its double standards by not taking up investigation into the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse in February that buried eight workers, technicians and engineers alive. It is also indicative of the Congress-BJP conspiracy against Kaleshwaram, he alleged.

Hyderabad: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur and patriotic spirit at the BJP Telangana State Office in Hyderabad. Marking his first flag-hoisting ceremony as State President, he reflected on the legacy of past leaders, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort for the 12th consecutive time, setting a record for the longest Independence Day speech from the historic site. He emphasized that India's freedom was earned through immense sacrifice, citing heroes like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajguru, Sukhdev, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Rao urged the youth to honor these sacrifices by striving toward their dreams and contributing to national progress. Highlighting India's transformation under Prime Minister Modi, he noted that the country had become the world's fourth-largest economy. He recalled the resilience shown during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure, especially during the Pokhran nuclear tests, and praised the current government's reforms and infrastructure development. Rao called for a revival of the Swadeshi spirit, encouraging citizens to buy indigenous products and reduce plastic usage to protect the environment. He lauded India's global outreach, including vaccine diplomacy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rao warned against divisive politics and urged citizens to uphold constitutional values. 'Let us stand united, honor our freedom fighters, and build a Young India, Naya Bharat,' he said.

During the Independence Day celebration held at Nehru Maidan on Friday, the minister said that the police department was given full responsibility to maintain peace and order in the district without any external pressure. "To understand the root of communal issues, peace and harmony meetings have been held with district representatives and leaders from various fields, and several measures are being implemented based on the consensus reached in these meetings," he said. To maintain peace and order in the district, religious leaders from temples, mosques, and churches should educate people at their respective religious centres, he suggested. "It is important to make the community understand that development is possible through harmony. The district, known for its unique features in education, healthcare, tourism, and religion, also made significant contributions to the freedom movement, which is a matter of pride. At the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple, under the Hindu religious endowment department, various infrastructure development and other necessary facilities are being undertaken in the third phase of the master plan at a cost of approximately Rs 400 crore this year, said Rao.
