He did not score as much as everyone wanted him to, but he still had 37 points in 37 games. That's one per game, which is still good. He also helped Team USA win gold at the World Juniors with five goals and four assists.
James Hagens struggled at college. He was shorter than many of the older heavier players. Because of his longer height, it was harder for him to get to the net. Most of his shots were from far away, and his goal numbers dropped:
2022-23 (NTDP): 26 goals in 43 games (27.5%)
2023-24 (NTDP): 39 goals on 58 games (18.5%)
2024-25 (Boston College): 11 goals in 37 games (7.9%)
James Hagens' playmaking and skating continue to show elite NHL potential
With fewer targets to work with, James Hagens continued to look like an NHL star in the making. He is an extremely talented skater. He is quick, able, and able to make such sharp cuts that other offensive players benefit from them.
For instance, he can drive to the top of the slot during the power play and pivot off a smart pass to a teammate who's open. He also has good puck control, and it's hard to get him on one. If there isn't a passing lane, he can shoot himself.
He is worried about his size, but he plays hard and can defend himself. He compares several times to the New Jersey Devils' Jack Hughes. Like Hughes, James Hagens can be a great offense if he gets bigger and plays on a first line in the first few years of his NHL career.
James Hagens didn't score as many goals this year, but he played great nonetheless. He has been one of the best up-and-coming hockey players for years. With more time to hone his craft, he still seems like a top pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Asia Cup 2025 India to Pakistan: All squads announced so far, full schedule, venues and more

Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav (left) and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Mumbai on Tuesday. (Photo: PTI) Team India became the second team after arch-rivals Pakistan to announce their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 tournament. The eight-team tournament is set to get underway in UAE from September 9 with neighbours India and Pakistan set to face off in Dubai on September 14. Defending champions India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav with Shubman Gill being named as his vice-captain. The Indian Test skipper makes a comeback into the T20I format after more than a year's time. 'Like I said, he (Shubman) was (the) vice-captain the last time he played T20 cricket. That was after the last World Cup so even at that point, clearly we were thinking along those lines,' chief selector Ajit Agarkar told the media in Mumbai on Tuesday. Gill's return makes Sanju Samson's place in the playing 11 also doubtful with the vice-captain set to partner with Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order. 'Sanju was playing because Shubman and Yashasvi were not available at that point (and) so was Abhishek. (But) Abhishek's performances clearly makes it hard to leave him out. Plus, his bowling is handy,' Agarkar said. 'Now that he's available, at least he (Suryakumar) has two options. It's their headache to pick the batting lineup (now); ours was to pick the 15 and so. But we've got some real depth as far as T20 cricket is concerned and we are very happy with it,' he added. Meanwhile, Pakistan have dropped Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from their squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Both Babar and Rizwan are former T20I captains of Pakistan. Their team will be led by all-rounder Salman Ali Agha, who recently led Pakistan to a 2-1 series win over West Indies. ‘Can't imagine a squad without him': Shreyas Iyer's Asia Cup 2025 omission sparks outrage online

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer's omission from India's Asia Cup 2025 squad has triggered a storm across social media. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced the 15-member side on Tuesday, with Shubman Gill making a return, but Iyer's name missing from the list. Shreyas Iyer has not been named in the 15-member squad for Asia Cup 2025 The Asia Cup will be held in the UAE this September, and the squad announcement quickly became the talking point. Fans questioned how Shreyas, who has been in exceptional form in white-ball cricket, could be left out. Some even argued that 'Shreyas would walk over into any other international cricket team based on his performances this year.' The BCCI confirmed Shubman's selection after he had been left out of India's last three bilateral T20I series against Bangladesh, South Africa and England. Shubman, however, made a strong case during the five-match Test series in England, scoring 754 runs at an average of 75. The 25-year-old will serve as vice-captain under Suryakumar Yadav. Shubman last played a T20I in July 2024, when he was also vice-captain against Sri Lanka. He led India for the first time in Zimbabwe earlier that year. At the press conference, both Suryakumar and Ajit pointed to Shubman's leadership experience and quality, making it clear that his place was never in doubt. What complicated matters was the success of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, who thrived as an opening pair in Shubman's absence. Both scored centuries and cemented their spots in the XI. Yet, the selectors have decided to reinstate Gill at the top of the order. While Sanju and Abhishek keep their places, the bigger flashpoint is Shreyas' omission. Despite a superb IPL 2025 campaign, where he not only scored heavily but also captained Punjab Kings to the final, fans strongly feel that Shreyas has been overlooked. Instead, the middle-order options include Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and skipper Suryakumar. Ajit addressed the decision head-on: 'With regards to Shreyas, I mean, you need to tell him who he can replace. No fault of his, nor is it ours. It's just that we have to pick 15 at the moment, he'll have to wait for his chance.' Ajit last played a T20I in December 2023, scoring a half-century against Australia. He also missed out on the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, even after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title. But earlier this year, he forced his way back into the ODI team, ending as India's leading run-scorer in their Champions Trophy-winning campaign, with 243 runs in five innings at 48.60. The debate now is whether leaving out Shreya, who has consistently delivered in high-pressure tournaments, was the right call. For the selectors, however, the balance of the squad and Gill's assured presence at the top proved decisive.
