NI council launches investigation after five sheep reported killed over 10 days
According to a spokesperson for the council the dog attacks took place in the Fyfin townland in Co. Tyrone.
The spokesperson for for Derry City and Strabane District Council added: "Council has undertaken a number of actions regarding the investigation already, including gathering evidence and witness statements, ensuring all dogs in the local area have been microchipped and have a valid dog licence and installed cameras and humane live catch traps at local farms to assist with obtaining evidence of dogs not kept under control and or involved in dog attacks on livestock".
According to the spokesperson the council is also liaising with the PSNI regarding the recent reports and "investigations are ongoing".
The council has advised that anyone who wants to report evidence regarding dog attacks in the Fyfin area should contact its Dog Control Service.
Derry City and Strabane District Council has also warned that it will take "appropriate enforcement action based on the evidence that is available".
The spokesperson for the council also said that consideration will be given to placing "control conditions on dog licences requiring dog owners to keep dogs in a secure area andor under control in a public place".
"Licence control conditions have also been placed upon dogs that were previously straying which requires them to be kept in a secure area to prevent further straying," they added.
According to the PSNI it is a "criminal offence" under the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1993 to allow a dog on any land containing livestock unless the dog is under control.
The PSNI has also detailed that if a dog worries sheep - attacks or kills sheep or chases them in a way that may cause injury, suffering or financial loss to their owner - the person in charge of that dog is guilty of an offence.
The penalty for this offence is a fine of up to £1,000.

Psychiatrist report on Eleanor Donaldson's health expected on Monday
A psychiatrist's report on the health of Eleanor Donaldson, who is accused of sex offences along with her husband, the former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson , is expected to be ready on Monday, a court has been told. Their trial had been scheduled for March but was postponed days before it was due to begin because of Ms Donaldson's ill-health. A fresh date for the trial has been set for November. Previous court hearings have been told Ms Donaldson was mentally unwell and under the care of a medical consultant. Ms Donaldson (59), of the same address, has pleaded not guilty to five counts of aiding and abetting in connection with the charges faced by her husband. Defence barrister Ian Turkington said the court 'would be familiar with the log jam within the [health] trusts in relation to the provision of medical notes and records' and his team had 'been trying to get these notes for months now'. He said his understanding was that without such an application, 'it's six months otherwise' to obtain the required information. 'Your Honour can obtain these notes quicker, much, much quicker,' he said. Mr Donaldson, who was the long-standing MP for Lagan Valley, resigned as DUP leader and was suspended from the party after he was arrested and charged in March 2024. Weeks before his arrest, he had led the DUP back into Stormont after a two-year boycott of the Northern powersharing institutions. Previous deputy leader Gavin Robinson took over as head of the DUP.

Witness appeal after trio of armed robberies of off-licences over 24-hour period
An appeal for witnesses and information has been issued following a string of armed robberies at off-licences in south Belfast this week. Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) revealed that they received reports of three armed robberies at off-licences within 24 hours and they are all believed to have been carried out by the same person. Detective Sergeant Leeman said: "We received a report at around 9.05pm on Wednesday, 30th July that a man had entered an off-licence store in the Sunnyside Street area. He told the staff to hand over money from the till before threatening them with a knife. He then made off with a sum of cash in a small brown paper bag, headed in the direction of Haywood Avenue. "The suspect is described as being approximately 6ft tall and of medium build. He was wearing a blue Adidas hoodie which had red upper arms featuring three white stripes and a red hood, pulled tight around his face. He also wore black tracksuit bottoms and black and white trainers, along with sunglasses and black gloves." Reports of a second armed robbery were received by police just before 1pm the next day, Thursday July 31, when a man went into an off-licence in the Stranmillis Road area. Detective Sergeant Leeman said: "The male entered the store at around 12.45pm and threatened staff with a knife, demanding cash before making off in the direction of Stranmillis Park. "He is described as being 5ft 10'' tall and of average build, with a dark beard. He was wearing a red and blue hoodie with the hood tied across his face, along with navy jogging bottoms and a dark-coloured glove with light sections on his right hand." Anyone who saw a man matching the above description or who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage of the around the time of the incident can contact investigators on 101 and quote reference number 699 of 31/07/25. A third armed robbery was reported later that day, at 8.20pm, when a man entered an off-licence in the Ormeau Road area. Detective Sergeant Leeman said: "Again, this report involved a man entering the store and threatening staff with a knife, demanding that they hand over the contents of the till. "We believe this is the same individual involved with the previous two robberies, who is described as being 5ft 10'' - 6ft tall, of medium build and approximately 40 years old. He was wearing light-grey tracksuit bottoms and a grey fleece, along with a navy beanie hat, a white T-shirt or bandanna used as a mask and black gloves. He also wore khaki-coloured trainers and carried a white plastic bag. "The suspect made off in the direction of the city centre and we're appealing to anyone who saw a man matching this description, or who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1448 of 31/07/25." PSNI investigating theft of 21 lambs in Tyrone
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed that an investigation is underway following the alleged theft of lambs in Co. Tyrone. It is understood that 21 lambs were taken from a field in the Meenagorp Road area of Plumbridge village. The incident was reported to police last Thursday (July 24), but it is believed that the animals may have been taken in the days beforehand. In a statement, the PSNI appealed to anyone in the area with information to come forward, particularly if they witnessed any suspicious activity or an unfamiliar vehicle. Police noted that a trailer would have been needed in order to transport the lambs from the scene. A PSNI statement read: "Police are investigating the theft of 21 lambs from a field on Meenagorp Road in Plumbridge. "The theft was reported to police on 24 July, but may have occurred in recent days before it was reported. "To transport these lambs anywhere would have required a trailer and so police are especially keen to hear from anyone who was in the area last week, and saw any suspicious activity or unfamiliar vehicles. "The number to call with information is 101, quote reference 1954 of 24/07/25 or make a report online [through the PSNI website], or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111." The PSNI also reminded people if they see unusual activity in their area or come across unknown vehicles outside premises or on neighbouring land in rural areas to note important details such as a description or vehicle registration and contact police immediately. "Police will follow up on your call and there is every possibility your prompt information could prevent a crime. "For crime prevention advice or information call 101 to speak with the local crime prevention officer. Always 999 in an emergency," the statement added. Meanwhile, An Garda Síochána is carrying out an investigation after "tens of thousands' of euro worth of equipment were taken from a farmyard in Co. Leitrim. The stolen items included a van, a quad trailer, a bowser power washer, and concrete tools. It is understood that the theft took place on a farmyard in the Ballinamore area of the county, not far from the border with Co. Cavan. According to information received by Agriland, the incident occurred 'in the early hours' of Tuesday (July 15) between midnight and 6:00a.m. Gardaí also confirmed that a report was received of an incident of burglary that occurred at a premises in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim overnight on July 15, and that a number of items have been reported as stolen. A Renault Master van, with a registration of 161-D-1594, along with quad trailer, was stolen. Other items that were stolen include a Yamaha motorbike, a ride-on power float (for use on fresh concrete), a bowser power washer, and a number of concrete finishing tools. The van is described as 'quite distinctive', with white and red markings around the side. The power float and the trailer are described as 'brand new'.
