Selangor find their new playmaker in Clough after Orozco's exit
Zach Clough (pic) is the man for the job and the news was broken by their former player and Australian football pundit Robbie Cornthwaite.
'Adelaide United midfielder Zach Clough has signed for Malaysian Super League giants Selangor,' he tweeted yesterday.
The move will whet the appetite of Selangor fans, especially after the departure of Venezuelan playmaker Yohandry Orozco during the off-season.
Clough brings with him a wealth of experience, creativity, and technical flair that Selangor hope will elevate their midfield to new heights.
The 30-year-old playmaker is well known for his intelligence on the ball, sharp passing range, and an eye for goal, all attributes that have made him a standout in the English Football League and Australia's top tier.
Having started his career at Bolton Wanderers, Clough quickly made a name for himself as one of the most exciting young talents in English football.
He scored 21 goals in 68 appearances for Bolton and also had stints with Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic.
Injuries may have disrupted parts of his career but at his best, Clough remains a dynamic attacking midfielder with an instinctive ability to unlock defences.
At Adelaide United, Clough found his rhythm again, becoming a central figure in their attacking set-up. His vision and control in tight spaces proved vital for the Reds and his ability to drop deep and dictate play often allowed others around him to flourish.
Last season in the A-League, he played 27 matches, scoring seven and making nine assists.
Selangor's move for Clough signals their intent to challenge for silverware and build on the steady progress they made under coach Katsuhito Kinoshi.
Clough is expected to slot into an advanced midfield role, potentially just behind the striker, where his ability to thread through passes and take on defenders could provide Selangor with the attacking edge they need.
He could also be deployed as a winger.
Fans of the Red Giants will be eager to see how quickly Clough adapts to the tempo and physicality of Malaysian football.
However, given his technical style and prior experience adjusting to different leagues, there is confidence that he will make an immediate impact.

[UPDATED] A horrible week for Sze Fei-Izzuddin
KUALA LUMPUR: The world came crashing down on men's doubles Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the past week. After slipping two rungs to world No. 3 in the weekly Badminton World Federation rankings yesterday, Sze Fei-Izzuddin Rumsani were dealt another blow today. They crashed out in the first round of the China Open after a 21-15, 15-21, 17-21 loss to South Korea's world No. 40 Kang Min Hyuk-Ki Dong Ju in 56 minutes at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Centre. Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin conceded that their opponents were simply better on the day. The Malaysian duo failed to build on the momentum from their runners-up finish at the Japan Open last week. Despite winning the opening game convincingly, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin couldn't stop the Koreans from taking control of the match thereafter. "We tried our best, but our opponents were better than us today," said Sze Fei in a post-match BWF interview. "They controlled the game with the first three shots." Since winning the India Open in January, Sze Fei-Izzuddin have been unable to add to their trophy haul — a slump that saw them relinquish their world No. 1 ranking after just eight weeks at the top. There has been speculation recently that the independent pair are set to rejoin the BA of Malaysia. However, Sze Fei dismissed such claims yesterday. Sze Fei-Izzuddin will hope to bounce back at next month's World Championships.

Malaysia Airlines taps 'Pocket Rocketman' Azizulhasni Awang in sports branding drive
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has named national track cycling legend Datuk Azizulhasni Awang—better known as the 'Pocket Rocketman'—as the official ambassador for MHsports, its specialised platform for sports travel. The high-profile appointment signals MAG's commitment to deepening engagement with Malaysia's sporting ecosystem while reinforcing national pride through strategic brand partnerships. By aligning with one of the country's most celebrated athletes, the Group aims to elevate Malaysia Airlines as not just a national carrier but a strong advocate for local sports excellence. This move comes as MAG accelerates its MHsports initiative—an end-to-end travel solution tailored for athletes and sports organisations, offering exclusive airfare discounts, extra baggage allowance for equipment, and flexible booking options. The platform is a key part of MAG's strategy to serve niche markets and build stronger emotional ties with Malaysian consumers. Azizulhasni, the first Malaysian cyclist to win an Olympic medal and a role model to young athletes nationwide, embodies the values of determination, discipline, and resilience—traits MAG hopes will inspire the next generation. Through the partnership, Malaysia Airlines will support Azizulhasni's preparations and participation in international competitions. He will also play an active role in MHsports' brand campaigns and youth outreach efforts aimed at promoting sports as a force for unity and national pride. Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, group managing director of MAG, said Malaysia Airlines 'remains deeply committed to supporting national sports development. "We are proud to play a role in the journeys of Malaysian athletes, providing travel solutions tailored to their needs as they represent the nation on the world stage. Our goal is to continue building meaningful support systems for the sporting community while contributing to Malaysia's growing presence in the international sports arena."

China Open heartbreak for Sze Fei-Izzuddin as title defence ends in opening round
KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani's hopes of defending their China Open crown were dashed after a shock opening-round exit in Changzhou on Wednesday. The Malaysian pair fell 15-21, 21-15, 21-17 to South Korea's Kang Min Hyuk-Ki Dong Ju in what was their first-ever encounter. The early defeat compounds a tough week for Sze Fei-Izzuddin, who had already surrendered their world No. 1 ranking on Tuesday's latest update, slipping to No. 3 behind new leaders Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae. Their premature exit is expected to cause a further dip in the standings.
