Lynn Hamilton, ‘Sanford and Son' and ‘The Waltons' Actor, Dies at 95
A representative for the late actor, Calvin Carson, shared the news of her death in a joint statement posted on Facebook. He said Hamilton died on Thursday, June 19, 'surrounded by her grandchildren, loved ones and caregivers.'
'With profound gratitude and admiration, we celebrate the extraordinary life of iconic actress Alzenia 'Lynn' Hamilton-Jenkins, whose remarkable legacy continues to uplift and inspire,' Carson said. 'Her illustrious career, spanning over five decades, has left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment, motivating audiences across the globe through her work as a model, stage, film, and television actress.'
He went on to note her performance in 'Sanford and Son' as nurse Donna Harris, as well as some of her other projects, like the comedy series 'Dangerous Women,' historic soap opera 'Generations' and miniseries 'Roots: The Next Generations.' Hamilton starred alongside Diana Ross, Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor in 'Lady Sings the Blues,' as well.
'Lynn was also the recipient of the prestigious NAACP Award, a testament to her outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry,' Carson added.
The rep then noted that Hamilton frequently collaborated with her late husband, playwright Frank Jenkins, during her career.
Carson concluded, 'Her passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations.'
Hamilton landed her first onscreen role in 1958 in the film 'Shadows,' according to IMDb. She appeared on shows 'Gunsmoke,' 'Good Times' and 'The Young and the Restless' in addition to her recurring roles on 'Sanford and Son' and 'The Waltons,' in which she played Verdie Foster.
Over the last two decades, she had roles on 'Sister, Sister,' 'Moesha' and 'The Practice.' Her final role was on 'Cold Case' in 2009, per IMDb.

Hamilton Rugby Club to host family festival
The event takes place on August 23 and includes three rugby matches, live music, inflatables, games and food Hamilton Rugby Club is hosting a huge family festival this weekend as the club launches its new plans to become a busy community space. Visitors will be able to enjoy live music, children's activities including face painting and inflatables, and refreshments including a barbecue and the club's new barista coffees served by newly-trained senior school pupils as part of a new business and training partnership. The club's senior men's, ladies and under-teams will all be in action throughout the day at Laigh Bent, and youngsters will also be able to try out the sport as Hamilton get set to start their new Baby Bulls section for three- to five-year-olds. Hamilton's family festival takes place on Saturday, August 23, at their Bent Road clubhouse and grounds, beginning from 11.30am. Local musicians Sunny Evans, May Terra and Luis Kelly will be taking to the stage throughout the day, while the festival activities include a 70ft inflatable assault course, bouncy castle, inflatable 'hungry hippos', archery and face painting by local business owner Zoe Hadly. The club is also teaming up with Lanarkshire businesses Strachan Craft Butchers who are providing burgers for the barbecue, Equi's ice cream, and We Love Coffee who are training local school pupils including a group from Strathaven Academy to carry out barista work. Children will have the opportunity to try playing rugby at a special station, with club volunteers Megan Lindsay and Ali Anderson currently working to start the Baby Bulls section for the youngest players. On the senior pitches, the men's team will be playing West of Scotland, while the women and under-18s take on respective South Lanarkshire rivals East Kilbride and Cambuslang – and organisers say: 'We can't wait to share our family festival with these teams as well.' A club spokesperson said: 'We are relaunching our club as a community space, and are hosting the family festival to celebrate; it's designed to be a relaxed, welcoming day out where parents can enjoy local food and music whilst little ones are entertained. 'We're looking to host many more community events; we are at the very beginning but intend to have many more events from fireworks night to food markets. TV fans defend 'unbelievably stupid' crime thriller that's streaming for free
There's a new crime thriller out on Channel 4 which has proven divisive among those that have already watched it. The German drama Hellground – originally titled Höllgrund when it aired in Germany in 2022 – is described as a 'dark' eight-part tale which is set in the seemingly idyllic Black Forest village. That is until the popular village GP dies and the coppers start to think there was some foul play afoot in the death. Then, one murder leads to others –at which point it becomes clear there is indeed something afoot. Local police officer Tanja Hartholz (Lou Strenger) launches an investigation which encompasses the Schwarzwald village's past. The deeper she begins to dig, the more pushback she gets from the community, and the more evident it becomes that this spate of violence is connected to a decades-old event in the village's history. At just thirty minute episodes a pop, this latest addition to Channel 4's Walter Presents platform is one you'll be able to breeze through easily enough. What you make of the show might depend though, since it's garnered mixed reaction from viewers so far. Hellground currently holds a 6.3 rating out of 10 on IMDb. Hellground viewers have taken to Google reviews to share their take on the series, with some criticising elements of the show while others lept to its defence. One of those on the ante camp was Uwe Mohs, who described the show as 'unbelievably unbelievable' and awarded it two stars on account of the show's soundtrack. Mohs wrote: 'The story would be good if it weren't so completely out of touch with reality. All the protagonists' actions are so unbelievably stupid that it's infuriating. Under Fire . UK viewers can now watch 'riveting' New Zealand crime drama
A crime drama that left viewers 'hooked' is now available to stream in full for free. Set in New Zealand, The Gone begins with the disappearance of an Irish couple – Ronan (Simon Mead) and Sinead (Rachel Morgan) – from the fictional rural town of Mt Affinity. Although he's just handed in his resignation after 20 years in the job, Dublin detective Theo Richter (Richard Flood) is sent across the world to assist alongside local police officers Diana Huia (Acushla-Tara Kupe), who is undertaking her first ever investigation. The case also echoes a similar occurrence 17 years prior, when a pair of murders were committed in the same town, with the killer never caught. The police then have to deal with a community's 'growing disquiet' that the murders and disappearances may be linked. Cue plenty of twists and turns, with the six-part series also incorporating a storyline centred on the Māori community who are contended with a development that wants to acquire sacred land. Meanwhile an Irish journalist whose arrived in town also goes missing herself.
